What's Buzz-worthy: A total of 16,227 packs were made for this one as were ordered via Topps' site and there are just 1,681 total parallels in the product, so I feel OK about not landing an autograph here. (They are one in 12 packs.) The set is a small one comprised of three subsets -- Captain’s Inspiration (players Jeter idolized), Captain’s Corner (teammates and opponents he admired), Captain’s Connection (Jeter paired with two notable players) -- and then a single card of the Hall of Famer himself. Ironically, the one guy I didn't find in this pack? Derek Jeter. The parallel I landed here was the easiest to find with the others limited to 10, five and a 1/1 for all 41 cards. The ink volumes vary but Jeter's auto might be the toughest here (see the checklist for the details by clicking here). All in all, I liked this pack more than I thought I might as it wasn't almost all Yankees players but I'll admit I dabbled here -- I think this is my first Topps X buy -- so I'd have some new Buzz Breaks in case there were times where I strike out in the retail wild. The signers list here is pretty good and most are low-volume (/50 max) with appeal beyond just the pinstripes. The stock here is the standard Topps Now finish but without the hologram backs and they arrive in the small box featuring Jeter as you can see above. The overall design seems a little pinstripe business-y -- without the pinstripes -- with just team colors and some accent color, while the backs are very retro with, well, next to nothing going on there. The relatively good auto odds and checklist get this one a borderline A from me, but the backs are pretty dull and it's pretty simple. This one relies on just quality ballplayers. Perhaps that's what The Captain wanted from his set.
