What’s Buzz-worthy: I passed on these back at release time -- can't collect it all and draft picks basketball probably isn't that high on my radar -- but at a discounted price this isn't a bad little rip. Why? There's a good amount of past and present play here so if you don't land one of the top rookie names -- Chet! -- then you have some legends in there to help it out. In this case, Holmgren showed and some big-time stars of the past did, too. That Russell is a really nice card -- Celtics colors -- with a great photo for vintage but ultimately isn't that pricey and the same can be said for my other better cards here. (I may have used the wrong box image here as my Wave was from the Green set not Purple but I ripped this one awhile back and threw out my box ... though I do vaguely recall noticing that oddity back when I opened this one. See, I told you basketball isn't that high on my radar ... this one got to wait before before popping up today.) The frame is the familiar one you've seen from Prizm in other sports for this year and it's comfortable vs. some years where it has felt heavy. The rookie presence here is meaty but it's only a 100-card set, while the veterans and retiree presence is good, too. I guess I'd want to see a little more on the insert and parallels front but this one seems to offer up more than I've seen in some basketball releases lately so even that isn't that jarring. There are some better possible finds here with some luck or bulk ripping for sure but I think the bigger boxes are the better bet as long as you're not sweating price.
