What's Buzz-worthy: My annual check-in with the cardboard version of Gummy Arts -- this is my fourth year of Buzz Breaking these -- arrived a little later than the normal Jan. 1 release as I had to wait for a later wave ... but it was worth it. While I haven't kept up to collect movies or shows that carry over in every year of these (I should), I do dabble. They are just-for-fun creations of artist Mike Noren -- see all of my past breaks and get more info here -- who brings these to life on the regular via the Gummy Arts Twitter and Instagram feeds. Somebody in the news or newsworthy on this day in the past? They're likely to show up there ... and once (or so) a year, there's a set like this made. This time it's a 107-card release with a mix of iconic movie characters, baseball players, bands and others in pop culture or world history. This one delivered some of my absolute favorites -- two new characters from Die Hard as well as Goose from Top Gun -- and it finished my first pack strong with Goose. I'll admit I didn't know a number of the musical inclusions in my first pack but that lull (for me) was made up for with Maverick's cohort. Among the other notables I didn't land but would want to see? Kurt Cobain, Penny Marshall, David Bowie & Bing Crosby, The Great Muta, Jules Winnfield and the Miami Future Stars card of Crockett & Tubbs from Miami Vice along with Dan Marino to make a 1982 Topps design click. Then there are Siskel & Ebert, George Carlin and Kenny Powers. Oh, and the Twins. See them all here on eBay. There are so many classics and people are selling a lot of these as singles -- and somebody even has a set built and up for grabs. The style and the fun surprises here make this one to see each year and the printing is simple paper stock with a hand-cut feel to them to reinforce the concept. Since they have happened a few years now, there's a good following -- check out those account follower totals up top -- and check 'em out for yourself beyond what I landed in the gallery below.
