What's Buzz-worthy: First a disclaimer ... this one is a 2022 release per the box and the copyrights on the cards but when it was first revealed it was noted as a 2021 release -- not a big deal but that should clear up any confusion ... along with the fact that the 2020 USA Baseball events were canceled due to COVID. ... With the MLB Draft earlier this month, I was reminded of the potential with USA Baseball sets every year -- and I say it that way as sets include players from the 15U, 18U, Collegiate National Team and sometimes players even younger than those mentioned here. That means you can have players on cards years before draft time if they pan out. This year's first round included 20 former players and this was the 19th time in the last 22 drafts where the No. 1 pick played for one of its teams. ... I used to be a heavy buyer of USA stuff when they were full sets with bonus hits and still dabble regularly with these pack/box formats -- largely for the price vs. volume of hits with potential (either player or card type) -- but this one is arguably too simplified. Some parallels look identical to others save for a foil color only seen on the name and a minor stripe. My Silhouette cards? They look pretty much identical save for the type of swatch inside -- a big difference in volumes made, though. There are a ton of good names to find in this one and the long-term potential also is there. This box included a few first-rounders across all card types. This one just isn't as flashy as past releases, though its design might be crisper, and I'd argue this particular box might be among the driest USA hobby boxes I have opened ... but they won't all be that way with patch cards, jumbo memorabilia cards, laundry tags and plenty more. Even some Whammy! cards, too. Blaster boxes will typically give you an auto and a mem card here but with the retail SRPs a little higher than past years, hobby boxes are the way to go for the cost until they dry up.
