What's Buzz-worthy: Want a quirky legend-loaded box that guarantees a hit every time out in the retail wild without a mountain of boxes to come next week when it reloads? That's this one -- a recent arrival from SAGE thats the third in a series of sets that reboot the SportKings brand of the 1930s but with today's new inclusions. Notables in this one not found here? MLB icon Jackie Robinson, NBA star Chris Bosh, volleyball legend Karch Kiraly and modern-day wrestler Adam Scherr (formerly known as Braun Strowman in WWE). The rest of the notables were pretty much found in this box as it included a serious chunk of a small set even with the multiple Mad Dog appearances. This one included a nickname variation card and a top name among the parallels and a Hall of Famer on the hit, so this one is perhaps above average for the box, though still not the flashiest outcome. Some of the possibilities in the bonus pack include autographs, cut autos, 1/1 sketch cards or a patch card. Overall, the artwork here is a little different than the past -- some do still have the detailed almost penciled or painted feel while others feel like the media is a little less detailed perhaps with markers. Overall, the stock feels sturdier this time around and there are quirks to be found. I listed the Lin Dan as a variation as there are both types to be seen on eBay, while the Gabby Douglas mini has a different color than the base. Does this one have other surprises? It's possible. That's of course atop cards of race horses, badminton, rugby and track stars from the past and present. This one is perhaps not as tight as others from the past but it's a pretty solid example of the non-traditional stuff that could have later appeal with a lot of its competitors on the shelf right now being far more plentiful.
