What's Buzz-worthy: This year's Topps flagship design dips down to MiLB and presents the stars of the future in uniforms that they may not wear long -- and that's some of the charm that's found here in a sea of Tarpons, Hops, Grasshoppers, Dragons, Wood Ducks and Blue Yahoos. The printing quality -- stock, cutting and spot gloss -- is actually far better than the flagship stuff made this year and that's perhaps because they're making substantially less of this one vs. any versions of the main stuff -- even with two box formats. Jumbo boxes include Chrome cards and actually offer less ink but I think Chrome still wins and it's perhaps the biggest flaw here in that it devalues to a degree what should be unique base cards here in the secondary market. Color flows on the lean side in this one -- too lean for my taste -- vs. the base and even the inserts. Since I've not been the biggest fan of this flagship design this year, the high base volume here didn't help me. (That said, a lot of names will be a good thing here in a year or two when it's time to pull out the latest Vaughn Grissom or Spencer Strider of this bunch.) ... Just like I said last year, everything here is very cleanly printed with stock so smooth and clean you'd think it's old Collector's Edge plastic stock. The base cards have spot gloss on the players and border elements that give it a better-than-basic feel. That's a touch I wouldn't mind seeing on MLB stuff. This box's color auto and Blue parallel are tougher finds -- one in 92 packs and one in 85 packs respectively -- and that seems a little too tough to me. That helps the value to the dedicated rippers who open by the case here (in theory they'll land a good name in color opening more) but I think that hurts the mass appeal here some. If there was more to be found here, flippers might dig in more. Box prices are super low here so I'll be enticed to open more while it's available and priced to potentially over-deliver.

Product Grade: B+
Box Grade:
A- (a couple of rarer color cards here helped ... but it's not a flashy one to open)
Fun Grade: B (see above)
