What's Buzz-worthy: The world since the NCAA rule changes on NIL (aka Name, Image and Likeness) rights has upended college football to be sure, and that's also applied to a degree to trading cards with who's got what, who's got who among the licenses and players definitely confusing between the major manufacturers, the college draft pick card-makers and others who are in the game. In this case, ONIT has taken a team and sport approach with releases for a more than 30 schools and a number of sports all findable as packs or in pack bundles or boxes that guarantee an auto there. (For packs they drop one in 10 here.) Which sports? Well for this school there are football, baseball, basketball and softball releases. Other schools also have volleyball, soccer, gymnastics and hockey ... so there are a lot of firsts possible here for cardboard, especially for the sports without a lot of cardboard in general. ... I finally got my hands on a trio of packs and this one will be the first rip ... and after seeing how cleanly crafted these are (though perhaps a little simple in their design approach) I'll likely dabble more once I scout the lineups. The checklist above is a bit confusing as the cards don't actually have numbers -- what look like numbers on the cards are actually the players' uniform numbers and the color change, for example, of the Parallel Series is actually a subset/tier where a few players are shown with that different design but they're not parallels of the entire set. The inked cards and other subsets are all part of the checklist numbering, too, and for simplicity I just considered it to all be part of one (a master) set. This one is a deep, deep list in comparison to a lot of sets out there and that's where I think there's some scouting and deep prospecting potential here ... or at least some deep diving to be done for a collector who likes early cards and having something for players from their team. This pack included three QBs but not Jalen Milroe -- the biggie -- but at least he's in there as that didn't happen for some school-focused releases here. The auto checklist is about 25 names with some strong ones in there, too. I'll rip more for sure just for fun, though the approach here makes the packs a little pricer ($12.99) than they might normally be for a standard pack but the bundles offer up ink and an extra pack, too. I'll probably go there once at some point and see how it looks. The format here gives these more of a MiLB team set feel but with a lot to collect so you won't land it all in a pack ... or even a box/bundle. ONIT has released a number of sets in just the last couple years and I'll do more.
