Signature Series Superscribe Autographs Orange Pre-production Proof (1) – Jerry West (1/1)

What’s Buzz-worthy: The added open space here is what makes this card a little more unique than others in this release -- the stickers this Hall of Famer signed for this one were a bit bigger because they also included an inscription. One, for example, was signed "The Logo" along with his name and it was a 1/1 card that sold for $70 (one from the standard set, not the proofs). Why so cheap? Well, West used to sign through the mail and somewhat regularly for card companies, so he's not a tough autograph despite being a top-level talent in the game. Since this one was from the inscribed set, it stood out from others in this release to me and I didn't mind finding it in a pack ... plus, I landed his ink probably 30 years ago the free way. ... The pack cost me less than $5 and I picked off a group of these recently for some extra surprises and quick-rip posts. This set includes stars from sports with less cardboard as well as traditional ones and I like this approach as it's something that could trend affordable while remaining unique and something that could pique the interests of a lot of collectors. There's a lot to find here as you'll see in my upcoming packs -- and you never know how interest for stuff like this might grow over time once packs are no longer easily found and player collectors have stashed their favorites.
