Leaf Metal Pop Century Autographs Pink Mojo Pre-production Proof (1) – Rachel Nichols (1/1)

What’s Buzz-worthy: This set is a landmark one with its focus -- a set focusing on women's sports stars and others around the sports realm -- and ripping a box or two is on my radar but, for now, I picked off a small lot of these promo packs as a taste test for how things look in-hand. This one? Former ESPN NBA and NFL broadcaster Rachel Nichols, who is actually a pretty familiar name compared to some in this autograph-loaded release when it comes to the standard boxes. The backs are blank here with the sticker on this one on both sides on the backs for cards that are proofs of the unsigned variety. ... As I have noted before for other Leaf proofs like this, ink doesn't happen here, of course, but a lot of big names are possible and that's part of the appeal to me with these -- the wide array of possibilities with everything being a 1/1. There are some names here with serious collector followings -- soccer star Sophia Smith, for example, has had a lot of these cards sell for more than $50 and as high as $100. She's not alone ... though there are a lot who also don't sell for as much, too. ... There are many varieties per card with all the colors and textures and in this case the proofs are not in stickered-shut top-loaders this time -- that might tweak the feel here slightly -- but overall, I like this approach as it's something that could trend affordable while remaining unique and something that could pique the interests of a lot of collectors out there. There's a lot to find here as you'll see in my upcoming packs.
