What's Buzz-worthy: Well, that's a first for me in decades of collecting -- I think -- as I don't think I've ever opened a pack of gymnastics cards. Yes, there have been gymnast cards in Olympic sets, multi-sport brands like Allen & Ginter and Sport Kings, but ... I don't think there's ever been an in-pack set dedicated to gymnastics only save for a Japanese set from BBM and then three schools who have signed on for ONIT cards -- the Ohio State Buckeyes, Boise State Broncos and the Florida Gators. ... As I noted on a past ONIT pack break, the world since the NCAA rule changes on NIL (aka Name, Image and Likeness) rights has upended college sports to be sure, and that's also applied to a degree to trading cards with who's got what, who's got who among the licenses and players definitely confusing between the major manufacturers, the college draft pick card-makers and others who are in the game. In this case, ONIT has taken a team and sport approach with releases for a more than 30 schools and a number of sports all findable as packs or in pack bundles or boxes that guarantee an auto there. Which sports? There are football, baseball, basketball, softball, volleyball, soccer, wrestling and hockey ... so there are a lot of firsts possible here for cardboard, especially for the sports without a lot of cardboard in general. ... As for this one, it's a little different than then football release I opened in part since gymnastics rosters are smaller. This one has 17 base gymnast cards and then a series of subsets (or tiers) with fewer names featured a second time and a pretty deep mix that apparently includes some serial-numbered cards (one of mine was /60) and also incudes the tiers. All cards are numbered as part of a whole set, which is a plus over the football set I previously checked out where uni numbers were in card number spots on the back which made it all more confusing without a a checklist. The approach here makes the packs a little pricer ($12.99) than they might normally be for a standard pack but the bundles/boxes direct from ONIT offer up ink and an extra pack, too. This one is a box of seven packs for $65.) ... I'll probably go there with a larger rip from one of my school's sports at some point and see how it looks. I figured I'd check this one out since gymnastics cards aren't something you see every day but Ohio State has a number of sports among its ONIT offerings.
