What's Buzz-worthy: This is one I waited a bit to open just to see how it went and whether boxes would drop in price. Why? I figured a couple things -- first being they made plenty of this one (for sure) since there are least four box types -- regular, Target, Hy-Vee and iCollect (note the color of the side panels) -- with some exclusive parallels in each. Second, I figured that this one is ultimately mostly about the auto chase -- they're in there -- and that the college basketball phenom of the right now would have strong interest in some areas and perhaps others might not meaning the demand would equal itself out and hamper demand. However, with no other WNBA stuff out yet besides Panini Instant and Clark's previous NIL cards elsewhere, this one has a lot of attention ... and after ripping I think it's worth it to collectors as well as chasers of the rarer stuff. Why? There's a lot to find here as it takes the Chronicles approach with several sets in one, though many of them are small. Despite that, there's still a lot to collect and it's all quite clean with perhaps only the back edges on some of the standard-stock cards to be watched. (The cardboard is a bit stiff and that's good on the fronts ... but the back bottoms might be chippy at times if you've got grading in mind.) The base set is small but the various parallels (see the checklist link up top or here) include a bunch of numbered cards across a number of the sets. Then after those you get a small crop of single-card insert sets (or close to it) also sometimes tied to the specific box type. This one didn't include ink but the first thing I saw was the Record Breaker Optichrome insert and then I found a numbered card as well as two Metallized (foilboard) parallels as the box guaranteed. The set includes a few non-traditional cards within the mix of action -- all that action perhaps best-suited for Hawkeyes fans -- but there's still a lot of variety in the total package. It would be interesting to see how a case breaks down for the various inclusions -- I have a feeling something between all the box types might end up rarer than others over time -- but all in all this small box hits the spot as WNBA cards are coming with some names that figure to be in big demand. This is a tribute set with even more for somebody to truly chase for an impressive master set that would be a definite challenge ... but not an impossible one.
