What's Buzz-worthy: This is my first rip of this one and that was on purpose -- I purposely avoided this one completely last year and this year until this point. Why? I just wasn't a fan of it generally -- other than being a cheap rip option -- but this newer wave wasn't that cheap, really didn't up the ante for real hits (autographs/relics) among all the options out there and nor did maintain the collectable touches of what it was meant to replace, Opening Day, which was cheaper. But all that is what it is ... and this one is one of few lower-end releases from Topps. So, naturally, what happens with my first box? Of course I pull ink -- one in 49 blasters -- in a single-box buy. (That gets it an A+ given the odds.) Granted, it's not a big auto but a lesser auto is better than no auto at all. I landed inserts from all four sets mentioned on the box as well as the parallels that are guaranteed here along with the higher-tier card in each pack. (A tiered set is another reason I avoided this one ... that approach just doesn't do much for me and I don't think it matters unless somebody is a master set collector. I also don't really think that collecting approach is a super-prominent one much these days. Why? Cost ... even on this one.) There are some other chases here but since it's Friday and I didn't land 'em, I'll leave those for you to discover if you rip ... or if I do more. Had I not beat the odds here this one wouldn't have graded as well but its overall design isn't bad -- the product gets an A-grade out of me thanks to that more than anything. I just think this one could be a better draw if it downplayed some of the kiddish looks/inclusions and ensured a little more reasonable chase for hits -- while maintaining a modest price. That part is needed if you look at the lineup from any and all companies in all sports if you ask me. There's a lot to choose from but that pocket of budget-minded collectors seems to be sidelined more and more if they are still sticking around. This one, any similar options and flagship should be the most-accessible and still deliver as one way to help ensure they do.
