What's Buzz-worthy: I'm not quite in Series 2 mode just yet -- gotta let that one cook -- but I did take a moment this week to pick off a fearsome foursome of Heritage hangers for breaks here and, well, this format is improved over recent years. This time? It appears in many cases you land a pair of Chromes and then some added inserts and an SP every time. In past years, an 0-for or one or two inserts/SPs total would be in here and then the rest base. Now, ultimately, it's not that far removed from the past but the variety here is up, albeit mostly being via parallels. That's still got potential with notables in the base set. This time? The Bicentennial parallel (/200) is the rare card at one in 38 hangers and that Crews card being one in nine. Together, those make this one a win -- a solid high-A box. ... As noted before, there's more Chrome and more parallel action here and while it's a smidge forced it's been needed for Heritage for a few years -- those are more spots for potential big-name highlights to pop up in a smaller box, meaning most boxes here have potential for delivering something ... and that's what affordable retail boxes need these days, perhaps more than ever. Why? Collecting. This re-visitation of the 1976 Topps set -- a crisper and cleaner version of a set that, to me, evokes 1970s Ford Motor Company stylings ... an industrial, but crisp feel a la an old LTD car or something but not quite as clean and sporty as a Mustang. Gone are the weird colors and that garish font of 1975 with those traded in for some quirky cartoons on the fronts that are perhaps the only thing that's not clean and relatively timeless here -- but they do immediately draw it back to the original. Gone are most of the issues that made last year's Heritage rough -- the backs are readable here, the collation seemed clean and no overwhelming issues from printing and packaging other than maybe some rough edges ... but even that wasn't as tough as the last few years. ... I'll rip more of this one this year than I did last year that's for sure.
Product Grade: A- (crisper and cleaner than last year's H with more Chrome/variety added)
Box Grade: A (a few good names to find but not super-flashy ... but the Bicentennial card is one in 38 hangers and that Crews is one in nine)
Fun Grade: A- (hangers seem to be much stronger than past years -- but still can be hit and miss)
