What's Buzz-worthy: Cameron Crowe's 2000 film that paralleled his own life as a teen-age writer for Rolling Stone is one that has a lot of fans even all these years later so the soundtrack -- not just the film, but the soundtrack -- has more than one deluxe release that arrived recently. No, we're not doing music stuff now or movie stuff -- this is a little slow-Friday oddball break of sorts to show off something cool that I picked up awhile back. Original price here was something like $300 -- too steep for me -- but I found it more toward the half-way mark of that and finally pulled the trigger. (Ironically, on the site where I bought this, these were actually selling for $400 now.) Why did I bite? I largely wanted all the extras that came with this one as it's all well-crafted and interesting vs. a lot of the real-world deluxe sets out there for many a musical release of the last 40 years. (Whomever was documenting the making of the movie did such an amazing job ... and you can see it in all of the art direction in the stuff here.) This one, of course, has a lot of real-world music on the soundtracks as well as new stuff made for the movie -- helps to have Nancy Wilson of Heart as Crowe's wife then and a few musical notables such as Peter Frampton and Mike McCready of Pearl Jam involved in production, too. The only thing I'd want to be included here beyond more printed photos in the mix? I'd work in the movie, too, but it has its own release. There's also a pared down soundtrack boxed set with some of the extras here but only CDs and no vinyl at a much more budget price ... but I had to have the printed extras here. I can't do this one that much justice as there's just not enough time left on this Friday afternoon (and I have other stuff still left to do) but I'll let the gallery do some of the talking ... and it still doesn't do it justice.
