What's Buzz-worthy: This second series of Topps Total cards is one that includes a few big names -- Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Aaron Judge and Juan Soto among them -- but the only one I landed here was Judge. It was a lot where I actually found an average of one duplicate card per pack and even one with back damage. The packs were all packed within one single green box but were not otherwise marked as Wave 2 of the 900-card release. This time around, it's card Nos. 101-200 and parallels limited to 10, five and one copy are also in play as well as a low number of autographed cards, which were an unannounced surprise for the first wave as well as this one at the time it was offered. That, along with Vladdy 2.0, got me to bite and I had planned on breaking this into a standalone break of two packs here and then two more for the next Buzz 8 in 8 marathon, but this one was too bland for me. The cards are in the style of the past Topps Total set but are on bright white and slickly glossed stock just like Topps Now but without the logo hologram watermarking on the back. The backs also have a limited blurb, no stats, and a blurb about the set itself (on all cards) that rivals what's said about the player. There were just 7,531 packs sold for this one and there will be better runs of this one than what I got. I didn't have huge expectations but I didn't expect to be nearly blanked on the Rookie Card/Vlad/parallel/ink front completely for what was the equivalent of two blasters. I had figured I'd find something of note among four packs, but ultimately you have a one-in-10 pack shot at any particular player so I should have expected this to a more realistic degree. Depending on what you collect and why, this one could hit your sweet spot. It was closer to a miss for me -- and I like cardboard creations on the simpler side -- but I also like something safe. Had this been on Total/Heritage/Living Set-style stock, I might have liked it a little more and if I remember correctly even some years of the original Topps Now runs had a parallel in every pack. Longer-term the RCs here could be serious sleepers as that pack total should mean roughly 750 copies per card if everything is printed in equal amounts.
