Where to buy: Via Mile High Comics ($29.95)

The stated inclusions:
-- One Mile High Comics exclusive variant edition ... in this case a Star Wars: Vader Down No. 1 with artwork from Katie Cook ... who has created some memorable sketch cards and done other work for Topps.
-- Between "30-60 other comics ... approximately 50 percent Marvel/DC, 25 percent larger independents (such as Image, Dark Horse, IDW, etc.) and 25 percent smaller publishers."

What's Buzz-worthy: Ever buy cards by the pound? I haven't, really, but I've had two trends that are getting my attention so far this year a little more than normal as we await a barrage of new releases this month and next. Those trends? Mystery boxes and bulk lots -- and this kind of hits them both, but for a realm I haven't seriously explored in a long time ... comics. So consider this a newbie type of buying situation. (Check out our Bargain Breaks section here for cheap bulk buys -- both boxes and pack lots for cards. I hit that one often.) This box comes via Mile High Comics, a Denver-based mega-store chain that's been going since 1974 and I'll say that the curiosity got me here as part of the appeal of bulk lots is the chase ... or the dig. If you have a card (or comics) shop nearby, you know how that can go with a bargain bin to dig through. ... Back to this pack ... Mile High lists the Star Wars variant alone at $34.95 on its site and on eBay its pricing is all over the place due to condition and as high as $39. Meanwhile, a quick search of each issue shows a few with interesting twists. The Blue Beetle No. 3, for example, includes a return for the character called Peacemaker who is rumored to the the role for John Cena in the next Suicide Squad movie. There are also a couple of older oddball issues here and some Wizard freebies that seem to have some added upside out there. All in all, the volume for the price (all less than $1) seems decent here for what's essentially a repack/grab bag format that lets one explore what's out there on the cheap. You can do the same card-wise in our Bargain Breaks section here and it's always worth a look to see what kinds of things you can find on the cheap with some volume. You never know what you might find that could pay for it all and more. Mile High has sold a boatload of these lately, so it's apparent that mystery boxes are far from just a card-world thing. You may also know that here as our Holiday Pack Party boxes intrigued a ton of collectors. (And a future box is on the planning board, by the way.) Did I expect any big money-makers here? Nah ... this is the kind of stuff to look through and tuck away just for fun ... and it was that to me.
