What's Buzz-worthy: I did one of these awhile back and didn't have anybody out there raging about something different so here's that one's buddy (I typically buy in pairs ... in this case to get free shipping). This time around, I got 36 books in the mix -- some premium titles and some older cheaper stuff. So, what is this? Let me revisit what I said last time and then come back to talking about this one. ... Ever buy cards by the pound? I haven't, really, but I've had two trends that are getting my attention so far this year a little more than normal. Those trends? Mystery boxes and bulk lots -- and this kind of hits them both, but for a realm I haven't seriously explored in a long time ... comics. So consider this a newbie type of buying situation. (Check out our Bargain Breaks section here for cheap bulk buys -- both boxes and pack lots for cards. I hit that one often.) This box comes via Mile High Comics, a Denver-based mega-store chain that's been going since 1974 and I'll say that the curiosity got me here as part of the appeal of bulk lots is the chase ... or the dig. If you have a card (or comics) shop nearby, you know how that can go with a bargain bin to dig through.

Back to this pack ... the variant can be found on eBay for between $21 to $39 so that bonus is a win -- didn't see any among sold items -- but it's got to be a lot rarer than the typical Star Wars books out there from recent years. I noticed a lot of variety in this one among the titles as well as in age so that helped the mix ... but it made me wonder about whether other options could happen at the time. In the time since then -- and in a time where comic shops and other dealers have had their distributor halt new stuff completely -- Mile High has expanded and focused its options on these boxes (though prices went up on some of the new versions) with more than a dozen options now. You can get boxes with all No. 1 issues, just Dark Horse, just DC, just Image, just Marvel, other focused packages based on publishers and even one with nothing but X-Men books inside. (Though those are $49.95 ... and I kind of want to.) ... As I mentioned last time, Mile High has sold a boatload of these lately, so it's apparent that mystery boxes are far from just a card-world thing.
