What's Buzz-worthy: This is my second of two Mile High Comics mystery boxes -- first one here (all X-Men) -- and it hit a little better than the last one for a slightly lower price ($39.95, free shipping). I went this route just for some surprise factor vs., say, a couple of blasters but I perhaps should have one those. (Check out our Bargain Breaks section here for cheap bulk buys -- both boxes and pack lots for cards. I hit that one often.) Unlike the previous generation of these boxes that sold by the pound (really), there wasn't an exclusive Mile High variant book in play here but there were a couple of No. 1 issues I remembered from back in the day when Image launched with the creators taking their talents straight to the collectors as writers, artists and publishers. The conditions here were cleaner than my X-Men lot and there really weren't any banged-up readers -- just a few with some wear that perhaps kicked them out of a sell-as-singles approach. Those shouldn't be too surprising in mystery lots. The box's top book (literally top of the stack) was a Savage Dragon main series No. 1 -- a book I've pondered grading from my originals, while the WildC.A.T.s No. 1 was easily in slab-worthy shape. These aren't rarer books but they're from back in the day when I was picking stuff up so I didn't hate landing them. Stuff late in the gallery is what I was worrying about in this lot -- newer stuff I know nothing about -- but that's on me as a dabbler more than a regular and that, too, should be expected in a mystery box. Why do these? Well, in recent times, I've found good stuff -- slab-worthy stuff -- and the same in the past. I even more recently found a book in my stash that I landed 30 years ago that was considered junk then (a far-later printing of a newsstand DC issue ... but with a debut character) that's not junk now at all if in a top grade. (Might be a $1,000 book.) And I think it is -- and it's in CGC's hands now. ... I doubt that scenario is happening here but a little mystery and building some cheap volume into the stash of stuff never hurts if it's cheap ... you never know what might be popular later.

Product Grade: A- (I like the idea for dabbling ... this particular mix worked out OK for the price)
