What's Buzz-worthy: I did a couple of Mile High's mixed mystery boxes long ago when the Denver-based mega-store chain that's been going since 1974 first dropped them selling five-pound -- yes, pound -- assorted mystery boxes for $29.95. I did pretty well -- at least I found some odd and interesting stuff among a wide mix and also a couple of 9.8 books of note or interest to me that you'll find if you flip over to the Making The Grade section. This time? The price was higher ($49.95, free shipping) and the conditions dropped off a lot more ... but at least it was all X-Men and related titles and on sale. (Original posted price on these was almost double -- would not have liked this mix for that price at all.) I went this route just for some surprise factor vs., say, a trio of blasters but I probably should have one those. (Check out our Bargain Breaks section here for cheap bulk buys -- both boxes and pack lots for cards. I hit that one often.) Unlike the other boxes, there wasn't an exclusive Mile High variant book in play here but there was one razor sharp and clean X-Men book from the polybag era where the bonus card on that one was Professor X. The better visual books I would have liked were more damaged -- the New Mutants book above one of those (had water damage throughout) and some were clearly reader books (end of gallery) that aren't even worth bagging. Meanwhile, the two that looked razor clean to me were from the years where I was buying those same books. (LOL.) Those shouldn't be too surprising in mystery lots but I didn't run into that in my previous breaks, really, save for maybe on some clearly vintage stuff. Were there any surprise or top-tier finds here? I'm not sure but I'm leaning toward no, though I figured the scope of possibilities in this box vs. other options was good. I did one other, cheaper, one from among their many options and it delivered a little more as I expected ... which means I'd probably be open to trying these again, despite this one just not being as good as past ones I've dabbled with. Why? A little mystery and building some cheap volume into the stash of stuff ... you never know what might be popular later.

Product Grade: B+ (I like the idea for dabbling ... but this one felt flat this time)
