What's Buzz-worthy: Buzz is dipping into these packs once again -- and you will see them one more time after this -- as they seem to be growing on me with their potential. This pack seemed to deliver pretty well with a pair of parallels of teams and with two of them being in first place right now and the third being one seemingly always near the playoff hunt at season's end. Of course, it's a long season. ... As said before, just 10,910 packs of this one were ordered and made as part of the debut for the Topps Now Futures brand. There are just 90 players in the set (click here to view the checklist) and each card has a scratch-off on the back good for a prize if that player's team wins the World Series. Prizes will be a 20-card Chrome Topps Now World Series set with parallels limited to 199, 99, 49, 25, 10, five, and one copy in that mix. Autographs will be numbered to 50, 25, 10, five and one copy. There were no autos this time around, but I did land more parallels than basic Chromes so there's some hope for a fun return on these packs. The drawback? It's a long season ... but one thing I didn't think of worth my previous break. The parallels such as the Chapman here could be rarer than they indicate depending on whether all three cards of a team have this possible prize or whether they combine to hit the 25. Same for the 99. The market seems to be pretty decent for contenders with the rarer parallels and the autos -- and they all seem to make the pack price here -- hit that link above -- pretty decent with three cards per pack. After the postseason is set I'd bet a lot of the cards drop off big, but the rare cards will still be rare. ... The second wave of award-winner packs seems a little more enticing to me as some teams can be seemingly out of contention now, while players can always have potential for a surge and action unless they are injured and out for the year. The next wave, though, has more cards and costs more per pack. I like this idea but may not dig in too often -- it could be fun in advance of, say, the All-Star Game or Home Run Derby ... stuff that doesn't require a longer wait to see if you won.
