What's Buzz-worthy: This comprehensive look at the sci-fi franchise's female stars includes regulars from all eras of its TV and movie runs at the time with a number of regulars and then some cameo appearances with stars you might know from elsewhere. (I'd still love to see performers' names mixed into the card backs somewhere.) The regulars are names Star Trek fans know but this box also included cameo appearances for Viola Davis, Famke Janssen, Ashley Judd, Kim Cattrall, Kirstie Alley, Joan Collins and a few others who you might know if you watched a lot of TV in the past. What drew me here? Four hits per box at the present price -- and it paid off with one of the best autos possible for series regulars in this one, Whoopi Goldberg, while other big-name ink here includes Vanessa Williams, Jeri Ryan, Yvonne Craig, Lori Petty, Marina Sirtis and Virginia Madsen among a roster of nearly 70 signers. This one has a number of rarer autos ("extremely limited" the rarest here) but doesn't have any classified as "scarce" making it a little different than some other releases. The base set includes several looks at regulars from all eras -- that makes it better than normal here -- and they all include meaty card backs telling the story and it's on a solid and different kind of foilboard/matte approach that I like -- and I rarely like foilbaord. The insert lineup is lean -- too lean -- but there are other possibilities here including sketch cards and a different metal set. All in all, one card made this box but it's a release with some good touches. There are a lot of autos where you might not know their names if you're not a regular Trek watcher but there's enough here to dabble and see how things break down with a box or two. With some luck, you'll land an auto that can pay for the box like I did. I've ripped into a handful of Trek-related boxes in recent months and this one has been the best of the bunch and one to make me consider dabbling more often.
