What's Buzz-worthy: This catch-all, all-generations look at the sci-fi franchise's female stars includes regulars from all eras of its TV and movie runs at the time with a number of regulars and then some cameo appearances with stars you might know from elsewhere just like its cardboard predecessor of a few years before this one. Somehow, this one arrived and fell off my radar (it was a late-2021 release but could have been delayed ... I don't remember) but since it's on sale right now at a solid price for boxes that deliver three autos every time I took a bite ... and I think I'll eventually do more if they last. This one is super simple for the base set -- the fronts basically just have the character and show info on the back along with the same image -- but it's the mix of all eras and the cameos of names you'll know elsewhere that makes this one interesting beyond that. (Just like last time, I'd still love to see performers' names mixed into the card backs somewhere.) Atop the regulars, this one included cameos from Sarah Silverman, Viola Davis, Iman, Kim Cattrall, Kirstie Alley, Joan Collins and others you'll probably know away from Trek. ... I initially thought my box was a slight bust on the autograph front, but the inscription card I landed has a lower volume made and was not included in Archives Boxes where the high-rollers will just rip one of those with a good/sure shot at owning most of everything in a release. Anderson inscriptions here might pay for my box on its own. Atop that, I landed parallels for one key name of a newer series and another of a character probably a notch down but still somewhat popular. (That's my gut feel here ... I'm not a regular Trek buyer.) This one doesn't have a comprehensive run of cameo across you''ll know from elsewhere (the base checklist is smaller vs. some sets) but the autos can have big names and that's why I want to do more. Sure, there will be lesser names only Trek diehards know, but also in play here are autos from Alice Eve, Ashley Judd, Kirstie Alley, Majel Barrett, Marina Sirtis, Michelle Yeoh, Nichelle Nichols, Sonequa Martin Green, Whoopi Goldberg and Zoë Saldaña ... a number of key names in the franchise. They'll pay for the box and maybe more. The color here is nice and the stock is, too, with it being gloss-free (autograph friendly) and simple foil stamping. The inserts are a little deeper than last time with a few update sets that build upon previous sets with new names and faces from newer stories ... all a plus for a collector. Other potential finds here include metal cards, sketch card and memorabilia cards, too.
