Buzz Buys ... A LOT: A legendary MLB find on the cheap

Buzz buys a lot of stuff these days and for a few reasons, really. Sometimes it's just bargain-hunting, sometimes it's just something that strikes me. And other times it's a lot -- a group of things -- and that has happened enough lately I figured I'd try something different as a regularly appearing item. Sometimes my lots will be wins, sometimes they won't be ... but I'll let you decide.

A LEGENDARY FIND?
The Lot: Seventeen 1979 Topps All-time Record Holders (subset) cards

What's The Deal? The 1979 Topps MLB set included eight All-time Record Holders cards (Nos. 411-418) as a nod to the elite, showcasing past and present stars (just Nolan Ryan, Lou Brock) who were single-season and all-time record-holders in the game at that time. This lot includes all of those cards as well as some extras as it was probably culled from a small run of singles and stars from a lot broken up to sell as stars or star lots.

What's The Steal? This one looked like it might have had grading potential based on its preview images but 1970s Topps cards -- across the board -- might have some of the sloppiest cards ever printed and cut and this lot can show it ... yet it's still got some potential.

Anything Missing? Nope, I landed them all in the subset... though I didn't realize it at the time. I really was only initially focused on the Aaron and Maris cards here.

Bottom Line: I picked up this small lot last year but nothing has made it into a grading submission just yet. There are no obvious top-level (9-10) elite-grade candidates here but there are some mid-range cards that might be worth the look and consideration in a bulk sub. Why? I'm only in on these at 58 cents apiece and the star power is there where a better mark (seven and up) on vintage could still be of interest to some out there. To me, this kind of a lot is low-risk with decent reward if something really clean pops out of the bunch. In fact, I need to figure out where I put these last year and revisit them for a closer look again under the loupe.
