Buzz buys and busts a lot of boxes right here for Buzz Breaks, but one of my goals just might be to rip fewer blasters this year and talk more about cardboard that I -- and you -- might like. One way to do that? Simple show and tell -- present a few pick-ups and say why they captured my attention. Would they capture yours? I'd be interested to know -- sometimes they might, sometimes they won't and that's fine. It's a buyer's market out there with plenty of options and bargains as well as high-end gems to chase.

So, with all that said, here are a few Buzz Buys ... and this time around they're varied but also pretty cheap. (The way Buzz likes it.)

TAKING ADVANTAGE OF MINOR FLAWS
The Card: Calvin Ridley 2018 Panini Obsidian Cutting Edge Relics Electric Etch Orange #CE-14 (/35)
The Price: $7
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This is a nice card of a strong rookie from a funky brand that didn't break the bank because it's got a few minor flaws that aren't that uncommon with thick-stock memorabilia cards. That's fine because they don't take away from the feel of what is a different kind of card that shows Panini is trying some things with die-cutting designs. It was that process that led to some compression wrinkling on a back edge and a spots on the top front edge, but I still liked it enough to pick up. Ridley had flashes of brilliance during his rookie season that included 64 catches for 821 yards and 10 touchdowns and I'm a buyer when they're on the cheap because I think there's some potential for more here. (Memorabilia cards can be cheap buys for football because they are often plentiful -- yet they are a fun alternative to pricey autographs in my book.) This is a brand that includes some big stuff -- far bigger than what my tastes are focused on. It's worth a look.

WORLD TRAVELER
The Set:
2018 Fleer Ultra X-Men Deadpool Around the World set (10 cards)
The Price:
Roughly $4
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
If you know comic book movies, then you should know all about the wiseass that is Wade Wilson -- no not the former Minnesota Vikings QB, dummy, it's Deadpool. This insert set isn't all that rare -- they're one in five packs -- but they show the nutty killer in various scenes around the world on cards with artwork from Caio Cacau. There are parallels to be found here but I picked off each of them on the cheap just for the heck of it. Some of the other scenes show Deadpool at The Great Wall, The Eiffel Tower, The Pyramids at Giza, Big Ben, The Bermuda Triangle, Mount Fiji, the Leaning Tower of Piza, The Parthenon and Chichen Itza. The backs are a postcard to Cable with a message and a spot on the map showing where in the world is Carmen, err Pool. In the 2017 set, Deadpool toured America and in a new Deadpool set he takes a tour of memorable sports cards from the past. This isn't the last of him that you'll see here. (I'm not a front-runner ... I have the 35 copies of X-Force No. 1 stashed away from 1991 to prove it.)

UNDER-APPRECIATED SWATCH
The Card: Dansby Swanson 2018 Topps Tribute Stamp of Approval Relics #SOA-DS (/150)
The Price: $3.45
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: The use of MLB Authenticated swatches is something that got a bit of attention when Topps announced it would be doing this on some cards a few years ago and they offer a bit more detail that can be appreciated but doesn't seem to generate massive extra money when it comes to sales of some of these cards. (I like it, myself, but wouldn't pay a ton more.) This one caught my eye, though, because of the info found at the authentication stage -- the jersey this one includes comes from just his third game as a big-leaguer on Aug. 19, 2016. He went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in a 7-6 loss to the Washington Nationals. You can see the jersey in action here and that's a fun extra with these types of bargain cards.

A PIECE OF HOLLYWOOD
The Card:
Mahershalalhashbaz Ali 2007 Inkworks The 4400 Season 2 Pieceworks #PW-4
The Price:
$2.25
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
In the past, I used to simply marvel at this guy's name, but that's far from the important thing here as Mahershala Ali has been in a lot of notable roles in the years since this card was made. He's a two-time Academy Award winner for best supporting actor in both Moonlight back in 2017 and Green Book this year. He's also been in True Detective, Alita: Battle Angel, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Luke Cage, House of Cards, The Hunger Games, Alphas and plenty more. He's got a pair of certified autograph cards -- one from this set and one from the first Alphas set -- and this is one of three memorabilia cards for him in this release. All in all, these seem like they could be solid pick-ups because you never know how big he might get from here with future roles. Right now, he's already a big name (with a big name).

A TOUGH ERROR CARD
The Card:
Jeff Treadway 1989 Fleer #173 target error card
The Price:
$7.25
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Everybody knows all about the 1989 Fleer Billy Ripken error card with the obscenity on his bat knob and the multiple versions that happened while Fleer worked to fix the embarrassing headline-generating and cash-making mistake. But this card in the set, one where a registration target mistakenly appeared on the cyan negatives and printing plates during production/stripping led to what looks like a target above the Reds infielder's head, is a far tougher card to find if you ask me. I've literally never seen one in-person through all these years before owning this (meanwhile, I've pulled roughly five Ripken errors). Recent headlines in the political realm made me wonder whether any copies of this card were out there. I found it, saw the price and made the buy. Raw copies typically sell for around $20 on eBay and lower-graded PSA slabbed copies have higher asking prices than that. This one's not perfect but it's one of those cards I may grade just to put it with my Ripken cards in slabs.

I JUST CAN'T QUIT THESE ...
The Card:
Tavon Austin 2013 Panini Black Friday Happy Holidays Santa Hat Relics
The Price:
$4.50
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This isn't the first time you've seen a card like this here in this Buzz Buys series, but it should be obvious why you do. I'm a total sucker for these types of extra-dimensional cards (even if they have soft top right corners). The Santa caps players wear on these cards are cut up to make the cards and they stand out as unique (yet obviously novelty) from Panini Black Friday packs from past years. I paid more than I remembered when I recently picked this one up, but big picture, long-term, this is a fun reasonable buy now or later. I don't see cards of this type being that easily found in future years so you never know if there might be collectors who will pay up when they can't find them. (This one? It's not going anywhere.) After all, promo packs aren't going to be sitting in warehouses for years like standard wax boxes.
