Buzz buys and busts a lot of boxes right here for Buzz Breaks, but one of my goals is to rip a little less and talk more about cardboard that I -- and you -- might like. One way to do that? Simple show and tell -- present a few pick-ups and say why they captured my attention.

So, with all that said, here are a few Buzz Buys ... and this time around it's a bit heavy on autographs I've picked up over, say, the last year.

TURTLE POWER!
The Card: Kevin Eastman 2019 Topps The Art of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Green Artist Autographs (/99)
The Price: Around $30
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This is an autograph from one of the original creators of the TMNT franchise that has been seen in countless comic books, video games, movies and other stuff out there in the world for years now -- a franchise among franchises. I'm not sure how rare his autograph is out there in the comic book world -- typically, artists do signings somewhat regularly -- but for trading cards he signed about 30 different options in this release that included one artist auto and one sketch card along with a very nice premium-style set ... and I think that is it for his cards. Poke around here on The Buzz and you'll see how these sets look and how I did pretty well opening a couple of them in the past. Why? The prices dipped rather dramatically in the year or so after they arrived but they have picked back up price-wise and aren't the cheapest of ripping options now -- but the sketches can be nice enough to pay for it all sometimes. I figured this auto was a key one in the long run, so I added this to go with my others. And, if you want to add some more pop culture trivia here, Eastman was the editor and publisher of Heavy Metal magazine as well as married to Julie Strain, a model and "The Queen of B-movies" who has appeared in BenchWarmer sets and helped create other card sets herself.

AND JUSTICE FOR ALL ...
The Card:
Rhea Ripley 2020 Topps WWE Undisputed Orange Autographs (/99)
The Price:
$45
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This WWE badass is only 25 and has been wrestling around the world since 2013 -- so do that math ... she has experience to go with the persona and size that looks like she could be in the plans for years. I've slowed some on picking up her ink and other cards since her arrival (prices have softened) but this brand is a favorite of mine and one that I have had good luck with when grading. She's one of three younger stars I have collected and it looks like she may be the strongest of that bunch in the WWE right now as long as some recent health issues aren't a big deal. She's had quite a WWE run so far and there's hopefully plenty more to come.

RETRO DOMINANCE ...
The Card:
Bruno Sammartino 2015 Topps Chrome WWE Gold Refractors (/10)
The Price:
Not sure ... but the key card in a large Chrome lot I found awhile back (realistically cost me, less than the first two cards)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This one isn't perfect with some spots on the ink and some surface issues that won't let this one grade with a top mark -- but I still might slab it as he's a really big deal in WWE history and he doesn't have a ton of WWE ink. He died at age 82 three years after this one arrived and the reason he doesn't have a ton of ink is that he was estranged from WWE for a long time as he felt the company had gotten away from family-friendly wrestling shows in the 1990s and beyond. In the record books, nobody comes close to his time as champion -- he held the belt continuously and was the main-event player from 1963 to 1971 -- more than 2,800 days -- and just the second WWWF champion in history. That't not all as his second run as champ was another 1,200 plus days (1973-77). Only Hulk Hogan's 1,400-plus days in his 1980s prime and fellow Hall of Famer Bob Backlund come close. In recent years, few guys have year-long runs, let alone years-long runs, with the belt. He's oldschool but a legendary name -- and I landed this in a steal of a Chrome deal. It was pricey but this card made it worth it.

EXTRA-LARGE INK
The Card: Mark Ingram 2011 Panini Gridiron Gear Rookie Gridiron Gems Jumbo Signatures (/201)
The Price: $6
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This Alabama Crimson Tide star is often among my pick-ups -- though I have slowed a lot in the last couple years -- but this card was a sweet price for a gimmick auto on a pull-out jersey swatch inside the card. You can find some Ingram autos on the cheap side like this, but they're typically draft picks sets or simpler sticker sigs ... not stuff like this.

TRIBUTE TO A LEGEND
The Mag:
Eddie Van Halen Rolling Stone commemorative issue (2020)
The Price:
About $8
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This one isn't all that rare or special for its time, really, but it's Rolling Stone -- so stuff from Van Halen's prime from that oversized mag isn't something that would fit in a CGC magazine slab. This would, though, and I picked it up in a small lot of bargain-priced new mags with an eye on grading. Why? He's an icon, it's a nice image and I think slabbed mags of big names from the 1980s, 1990s and recent decades could make for nice graded pieces no matter their age. It will present well slabbed for sure. The cost vs. its value drops this one a bit among the priorities list -- it's deep on my to-do list -- but I'd grade it.

TRIBUTE TO A LEGEND II
The Mag:
John Lennon -- Newsweek Dec. 22, 1980
The Price:
About $25
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Just like the previous issue, this one is from an icon ... one who was known over parts of three decades during his career and in every year since as The Beatles will never fade away. This is from immediately after his death in 1980 and is one of a few issues that dedicated their cover to him after his assassination. Older mags aren't easy finds in top shape -- and this one still has some issues -- but I like the slab potential here. I ponied up a bit, not noticing a couple of flaws that might have scared me off, but this, too, is a mag that will look good in a slab.

BACK IN THE DAY ...
The Card:
Shaun Alexander 2000 Press Pass Autographs
The Price:
$3
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This card was a no-brainer for me for its price and because this guy was the superstar back when I was around that team -- and I saw the insanity and the crowds that were involved with getting his ink. It wasn't easy, but I did it a few times -- and I'd buy them all day long at this price. I'd rip packs, too, if they were around but they're not ... something about That Tom Brady Guy makes them pricey and has meant they got ripped. This card also was the first set for his cards that year, so this photo here (also on his base card) will always strike me as memorable.

WILL SHE EVER RETURN?
The Cards:
Bayley 2016 Topps WWE Undisputed Autographs (/299) & 2017 Topps WWE Undisputed Autographs (/199)
The Price:
About $30 t0tal
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This member of the WWE's Four Horsewomen of NXT has been on the shelf with injuries for some time and since she was off the radar long ago I picked up these since they seemed like good values. (Now, out of sight so long? Maybe not as good.) I actually picked up the blue mistakenly thinking it was a parallel with a good price -- it's not -- but I am a fan of the brand so no regrets. Both of these on-card autos are big and bold -- and clean -- vs. stickers and have her original look going, too. Oddly, she went away from this look long ago but hasn't had a boatload of autographed cards beyond these years.

YOU KNOW I BUY TOO MUCH BO ...
The Card:
Bo Bichette 2020 Topps Holiday Relics
The Price:
$9.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
I could probably do a Buzz Buys with nothing but his cards that I have amassed over the last couple of years but I'll limit this time to this rookie-year Relic. It's not the tightest Relic design I've seen but the basic cards in these boxes are fun with a number of tweaks as variations that add some levity to the mix as well as a chase. I was a little surprised I paid this much looking back at my data but it is from his rookie year ... so I'm good.

AN ICONIC MOMENT
The Mag:
Alabama Crimson Tide's "The Goal Line Stand" -- Sports Illustrated Jan. 8, 1979
The Price:
$9.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This is an iconic moment from Bear Bryant's championship years as this play prevented Penn State from scoring a touchdown -- watch it here -- and winning it all in the Sugar Bowl. This photo has been reproduced as art many times through the years and it's really an epic piece of photography considering how fast the piece happened. Barry Krauss (No. 77) made the play to prevent the TD and later played a decade in the NFL ... but nothing there comes close to this moment. No. 2 Alabama beat No. 1 Penn State for the national championship with this fourth-down stop inside the 1-yard-line. Somehow I'd never really hunted or happened upon this issue but this presented itself rather cleanly and on the cheap, making it a no-brainer. It's not perfect, and it's got the dreaded (to some) mailing label, but it's slab-worthy to this Crimson Tide collector.

HIGH-GRADE ICON
The Mag:
Alanis Morissette -- Entertainment Weekly Nov. 6, 1998
The Price:
$12.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This mag presented itself while hunting through a dealer's deep inventory and I grabbed it as it's a definite 9.8 contender as a subscriber copy ... which shouldn't be an easy possibility. Why? Well, that blank address box should be one clue -- there's nothing there as this one had a subscription renewal reminder wrap around it and that helped protect the mag in the mail and had the addy printed there. Morissette is a definite 1990s icon and I think this will eventually be among my stash of graded mags at some point.

GOING GREEN
The Card:
Shotzi Blackheart 2021 Topps Chrome WWE Autographs (/199)
The Price:
$34
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This young WWE star is one who you have seen here often if you're a regular reader -- and there are likely more to come that I have stashed but spread out just like Bo Bichette. I'm not the biggest fan of this Chrome design -- and this photo is definitely not the best way to see the high-energy "Ballsy Badass" of WWE -- but the price was right and the signature was clean. (She signed a lot in a short time so her autos can be hit and miss as she adjusted it to sign more.) This card may end up graded, too.

AN ODDBALL PAIRING
The Cards:
Roberta Mancino 2018 Goodwin Champions autograph & memorabilia cards
The Price:
Less than $2 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Did I need a skydiver's auto and memorabilia card in my stash? No ... but I do like adding weird stuff --and that's what Goodwin is a good one for. Simple as that. The photo here is a funky one, too. I'd do a deep dive on her history but, well, this one is a long one ... next item!

ALL THAT INK ...
The Card:
Kayoko Haruyama 2016 BBM True Heart Autograph ∕100
The Price:
$5
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Like the previous card, this is another where I don't know much (if anything) about the star appearing on it -- I picked up this Japanese wrestling auto because, well, look at all that ink. I legit don't think I have ever seen an autograph with that much going on and I dig it. Haruyama had a lengthy career with a number of highlights as you can see here. I picked up a few other autos with unique details at the same time as this ... so you'll see more of some imported wrestling cards in later editions. Why? Just adding something different into the mix to remind collectors that there's a ton of stuff out there you might not know about.

SEEMED LIKE A BARGAIN ...
The Sheet:
Babe Ruth 1983 U.S. Postage stamp sheet of 50
The Price:
$9.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This one seemed underpriced for who it is, what it is and its age. Asking prices for these sheets were two or three times the cost of what I paid (in some instances) and I just thought this was interesting. For years there were only a handful of MLB related stamps for individual players -- this Ruth, Jackie Robinson, Roberto Clemente and Lou Gehrig all from the 1980s -- while a number of other baseball stamps have happened in years since. To me, this one has the strongest visual -- that's a photo you have seen on cards, too. It arrived wrapped to the piece of matte board so it could easily display but I really don't display anything in my stash.

FIRST COVER ...
The Mag:
Ronda Rousey -- Sports Illustrated May 18, 2015
The Price:
$12
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
She's now in WWE but this SI cover debut was from her dominating time in UFC and I figured I'd grab one at some point to slab. This copy isn't totally perfect (probably needs a pressing but that costs time and money and I don't want to wait as long as that takes these days) so it will sit for a time when that might get done faster. All that black ink might make this one a challenge but it's a first so it could be worth it once it's slabbed if the mark comes back higher. Rousey definitely has a historic place in MMA and probably in wrestling, too, despite less time there. The year after this she was one of the annual Swimsuit Issue cover models, too. I haven't tracked that one down but it also might make for an of-interest slab as a number of celebs -- from the modeling world as well as the sports world -- who have had covers. And, speaking of that ...

NOT FIRST COVER ...
The Mag:
Kim Kardashian -- Sports Illustrated 2022 Swimsuit Issue
The Price:
Under $10 (cover is $14.99)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This is far from a magazine cover first for Kardashian (or any Kardashian, really) but the crossover pop culture fandom in the SI canon of celebs makes this one perhaps a slab with potential, too. (You can still find this one on newsstands as its a monthly now and this one has a shelf life of several months in today's leaner retail presence.) Sports Illustrated typically does four or so different covers each year and there are other celebs in the mix, too, but this one seems like the leader beyond Ciara or Elon Musk's mom. (Really.) I'm sure there's somebody out there who has graded many if not all of the Swimsuit Issues but this one won't be my first that I slab -- that one is in CGC's hands right now and hopefully will be back later this year. This one is on the maybe list.

LEGENDARY THROWBACK
The Card:
Jackie Robinson 2009 Topps Magic
The Price:
Under $1
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This is a card that I have written about here or in Making The Grade in the past as its one of only a few cards showing the Baseball Hall of Famer as part of the UCLA Bruins football team where he was a standout while also competing in other sports. This is a standalone insert card so it's not a simple pull -- and it's also not all that rare. What's tougher, though, is finding a high-grade copy between that soft retro stock and centering that can look funky at times.

IT WAS WAITING FOR ME ALL ALONG ...
The Item:
1978-79 Topps NBA sellsheet ... featuring a player I collect (John Johnson, No. 27)
The Price:
Around $14
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Back months ago when the retail hunt was a lot more barren, I started digging around for oddball and retro stuff -- or at least looking -- and this one smacked me upside the head. Why? The one vintage NBA player I collect is right there ... waiting for me on this sellsheet all these years. I have all his basic Topps cards and even a pair of his warmup pants but this was out there all this time waiting for me to find it. What is it? Well, in the past Topps would print simple one-page forms like this or small pamphlets called "sellsheets" to tease and preview the basics in sets to come. There's not much on this sheet but that's all that was needed back then at a retail cost of $7.20 a box ... so cost for dealers was way cheaper than that.

ANOTHER ICON
The Mag:
Molly Ringwald -- TIME May 26, 1986
The Price:
Around $12
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Sports Illustrated gets a lot of the slabbing attention out there with collectors -- and it should as the focus is solely sports -- but there are other long-running magazines with a ton of variety of subjects that could have interest among a wide array of fans. (Value? Maybe, maybe not ... but strong conditions at a reasonable price make mags an interesting fun option to explore.) Ringwald was in Sixteen Candles in 1984, The Breakfast Club in 1985 and this magazine arrived in the wake of Pretty In Pink's theatrical arrival in 1986 ... all big hits from filmmaker John Hughes. If you want a name that says "1980s" she's one of them -- and an iconic name on a clean cover in a slab could do a lot better than $12.

REMEMBER THESE?
The Item:
Joey Bart, Daulton Varsho & Ryan Jeffers 2021 Topps Heritage wall art (/99)
The Price:
About $17.50 via Topps (quantity discount)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This one is probably a miss and that might have been in the back of my mind be a reason why this one accidentally got overlooked for months now instead of showing up here. (I picked this up long ago.) It's a jumbo-sized print of a Heritage card and it's serial-number 01/99 -- and since these are printed to order there's a chance it might be the only one that ever got ordered. (Though I say that ... these are still on the Topps site.) Bart was the reason I bought here -- I liked Heritage multi-player cards for these -- but Varsho looks like he's possibly the best of the three. (And his numbers aren't that great.) Topps has only done Series 1 posters this year -- and Series 1 isn't that good -- so I think we may not be seeing more this year for MLB. I liked the low-volume potential of these collectibles. Years later, these won't be easy finds unlike the cards themselves.

NO INK JUST YET ON CARDS ...
The Item:
Nikkita Lyons autographed 11-by-14 Rob Schamberger print (via WWE Auctions)
The Price:
$50
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This official WWE artist does a lot of varying pieces these days in a few media and this one is a little different in that it's watercolor with portions also done with marker, ink and pencil. It's also Lyons' first certified auto per se as she's an NXT 2.0 newcomer and she hasn't even had an in-pack card appearance yet, let alone an autograph. Her only cards are one Panini Instant release and its parallels. The first batch of these were near-instant sell-outs on the site, gone in just minutes, but you can find many stars on signed prints and even more on unsigned prints between the auction site and his site. Poke around here on The Buzz and you'll find more, original art and a link to his store ... there's plenty to collect.

A RARE BOX-TOPPER
The Card:
Johnny Gargano 2021 WWE Undisputed Boxloader Autograph (/5)
The Price:
$40
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This oversized box-topper -- think the size of the display box with four packs side by side -- isn't an easy pull and this copy was inscribed with his nickname, too, making the rare card something a little more different. (It's big enough I couldn't take a decent photo of it in my small lightbox.) I'm not sure why the seller set it at this price -- not that far off from a parallel of one of his basic autos -- but I grabbed it simply due to that as well as the type of card and the scarcity.

SOMETHING DIFFERENT
The Item:
Minnie Driver autographed 5-by-7 photo (PSA/DNA slabbed)
The Price:
Around $40
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This one popped up in a curiosity search of autographs after seeing some montages of past hit movies and it was at a fraction of a signed 8-by-10, which is the typical autographed commodity for celebs. It's a smaller photo with a strip left open on the photo paper for the auto. Since I don't own a ton of slabbed ink I grabbed it. Photo quality is often an issue as is legibility of the auto for celeb pieces but this one was strong on both fronts even if it's signed with a ballpoint pen. It struck me as a simple yet solid piece for the price.

END OF THE LINE ...
The Item:
Paige 11-by-14 Rob Schamberger print (unsigned open edition)
The Price:
Around $12 (sale)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This unsigned print was one I picked up awhile back to get some free signed bonus items (likely mentioned in this series in a past post) and I was reminded of this piece sitting in my reserves with some recent news. This WWE veteran finished up her run with the company this month and that means Schamberger can no longer sell any of his pieces featuring her -- a contractual thing that closes the lifespan of his editions. Compare this piece to the Lyons one and you can see how he's trying different things now vs. then. This is an older piece and only watercolor but it's perhaps more striking for its color palette and negative space here. Plenty of space for, say, a big, bold autograph.

HIS FINAL AUTO?
The Card:
Santino Marella 2011 Topps WWE Classic Autographs
The Price:
Around $12
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This guy is a bit of a comedic master with both in-ring shtick as well as his talking ability -- and he doesn't have a lot of autographs. Aesthetically this is one of his better-looking cards if you ask me, too, so I grabbed it as the price was right. Not a lot else to say on this one.

ALMOST HIS ONLY AUTO ...
The Card:
Sam Wyche 1992 Pro Line Portraits Autographs
The Price:
$6.50
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Wyche had a life in the game -- and he might be (rightfully) remembered for some of his mistakes as much as some of his successes -- but none of that is the reason why I grabbed this. This former NFL player and coach appears on just two certified autos -- this one and its 1991 predecessor from the same brand.

BASKETBALL THROWBACK
The Card:
Antonio McDyess 1995 Signature Rookies Prime Autographs (/3,000)
The Price:
$3
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
I was a big fan of Signature Rookies stuff in 1995 -- mostly football but I dabbled in some basketball ... but never with this pseudo higher-end brand. I was a big fan of an on-card autograph or $3-5 a pack but these cost a little more with the best card, from what I remember being a redemption (Kevin Garnett). These suffer from some 1990s Photoshop overload that competes with the photo too much and doesn't really help showcase the ink, but since he's part of my school ties part of my stash and it was cheap I picked it up.

THE SCOUT WITH A CAMEO
The Card:
Alex Smith 2008 Bowman Scout Autographs
The Price:
$2
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
If you're a long-time online reader about cards then you might know about this obscure piece of baseball trivia. If not, I'll tell it once again. This card is from a relatively forgettable experiment in some past Bowman releases where real-life MLB scouts got autographed cards that noted some of their past notable signings/projects on the back. That's not really the trivia here (he worked with Nationals star Ryan Zimmerman per the card back). What's of note here is that Smith's real-life 1987 ProCards Durham Bulls baseball card was the one that Annie Savoy (Susan Sarandon) used as a bookmark as she read Walt Whitman poetry to Ebby Calvin “Nuke” LaLoosh (Tim Robbins) in Bull Durham. Smith only found out about this trivia a few years ago when he was a scout for the Seattle Mariners -- a surprise on his 50th birthday. He had a chance to work on the film as a player but chose time in an instructional league to work on his game instead. He did make a playing appearance in Major League II a few years later, though. This is his only big-league card and certified auto ... and I still need to find a copy of the bookmark card.

DID I NEED IT? NAH ...
The Card:
Teri Garr autographed 1978 Topps Close Encounters of the Third Kind (BAS slabbed)
The Price:
Around $20 (maybe less as I can't find my info on this past pick-up)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Did I need a Teri Garr autograph? No, I didn't need a Teri Garr autograph. In fact, I'm not even sure why I grabbed this other than I liked the price for a slab -- but her list of credits was huge in the past beyond this role in a Spielberg movie. From small dancer spots starting out in Elvis movies, to Star Trek, Tootsie, Mr. Mom, Friends, MADtv, SNL, MASH, The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour, Dumb and Dumber and Young Frankenstein she's been seen in many, many roles. I knew her in a lot of 1980s comedies -- stuff where I probably don't even know their names. Garr does have a number of certified autos from Pop Century and Star Trek sets but I'm not sure I've ever seen one.

BOUNTIFUL BOND ...
The Card:
Maryam d'Abo as Kara Milovy 2019 James Bond Collection Autographs
The Price:
Under $4
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Just like Garr, I picked this one up on the cheap as she's a name I remembered from the 1980s and 1990s -- though I'll admit I probably just know her from this James Bond film. Fun fact: Her cousin Olivia d'Abo was Kevin Arnold's older sister in The Wonder Years.

BUSY BUT I LIKE IT
The Card:
Eddie Lacy 2013 Panini Contenders Rookie Ink Autographs
The Price:

A COOL PATCH
The Card:
Kenyan Drake 2019 Panini Spectra High Voltage Neon Orange patch (/10)
The Price:

Why it’s Buzz-worthy:

BEHIND THE SCENES
The Card:
Vince Russo 2020 Goodwin Champions Autographs
The Price:
$2
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Russo is a past writer and booker in the pro wrestling realm for both WWE and WCW in their prime 1990s years as well as TNA in the 2000s. His earliest cardboard actually pops up in the 2004 Pacific TNA set and he's also in the TRISTAR stuff, too, but his only autographs and memorabilia cards are found in this release. This is the basic auto and he also signed three inscription cards (all /25) to go with it. For the price, this card was a no-brainer to add to the wrestling ink stash.

AN ERROR CREATES A ROOKIE CARD?
The Cards:
Bonnie Piesse (actually Rose Byrne) 2008 Donruss Americana II Retail Silver Proof (/500) & Gold Proof (/100)
The Price:
$3 or so
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
I don't know a thing about Piesse but these cards are definitely errors as that is Rose Byrne, who has been in a number of movies such as X-Men: First Class (and others in the franchise) as well as the Neighbors movies and a smaller role in Star Wars: Episode II -- Attack of the Clones that got her some character cardboard appearances. How did this card happen? Well, I did some sleuthing on the Getty Images site and found that a photographer mis-identified her as Piesse on the captions for this photo, which was from a screening of that Star Wars. Piesse played young Aunt Beru in that one, while Byrne played Dorme.

THE INSCRIPTION SAYS IT ALL
The Item:
Vickie Guerrero autographed & inscribed 8-by-10 photo (via Wrestling Universe store)
The Price:
Around $8
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
She's been in and around the wrestling world for years with an on-screen presence for some time, too, with storylines for her late husband Eddie Guerrero and then managing spots for LayCool and Dolph Ziggler, comical interactions with Big Show (smack!) and then her work with Nyla Rose these days in AEW. She appears on just three autographed cards in just two releases from 2013 and 2014 ... so those, while they might not be in really high demand they might sell for more than you might expect. Rather than pay upwards of $50 for one of those cards (that was an actual eBay sale last month) which is a sticker auto on a plain design, I went with an affordable inscribed photo on the cheap from an East Coast dealer who regularly has signing appearances in their stores.
