Buzz buys and busts a lot of boxes right here for Buzz Breaks, but one of my goals is to rip a little less and talk more about cardboard that I -- and you -- might like. One way to do that? Simple show and tell -- present a few pick-ups and say why they captured my attention.
So, with all that said, here are a few Buzz Buys ...

ICONIC ARRIVAL
The Cards: Caitlin Clark 2024 Panini Instant WNBA (All-Rookie Team) -- Rookie Card (/26,980)
The Price: Whatever a 10-pack cost was from Panini
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: There's no doubt that Clark owned the WNBA in her rookie year and for most of this year her only pro cardboard came via Instant ... but I passed. Why? I figured I'd wait and see what popped up that I liked in packs -- and then when I opened one of her college career boxes I found interesting stuff but not cards all that slab-worthy with the details for cutting and printing. (Too messy for the risk to me.) As an easy slabbing decision, I grabbed a 10-pack of this card within hours of its arrival online. Why? It's clean and simple -- iconic -- and I knew that I'd want one or two of these in a slab with a high mark. How does that happen? Well, you have to have a few to pick from -- to eliminate obvious flaws like centering or corners -- and in this case three of my 10 might get sent in. The rest were too off-centered for my taste. There were plenty of these made so there's no rush, but it'll happen at some point in 2025.

OBLIGATORY BO
The Card: Bo Bichette 2024 Topps Heritage Clubhouse Collection Relics
The Price: Under $4
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Since this brand's start in 2001, it's been on my radar -- despite good years and bad years -- and that means my active player's stuff is still on my radar despite some rougher releases in the last few years. The centering here is more 1975 than 2024 but the rest was pretty clean for a Relic and for a card with all that ink on the borders that can showcase flaws easily. Also not hurting was the price. Here's hoping the the rest of the 1970s Heritage sets pick up some steam or tweak the formats some ... and Rickey Henderson's recent death also is a bummer for those awaiting the 1980 re-do in 2029 (as long as the brand remains active).

UP NEXT?
The Card: Cooper Flagg 2024-25 Bowman U Now (announced /32,526)
The Price: Cost via Topps minus a $5 discount code
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: The allure of some chase autographs/Relics/parallels here got me to bite for the first card of this new name with a high profile for a high-profile team. Alas, no bonus cards for me ... and there's not much else to say other than I tried. I made a record-low four (yes, just four) Now buys all of last year -- and three of them were for the chase and two of them used discount codes. All base for me. I think the chase element should have happened years ago, so that's a good thing if you're lucky ... it's a bad thing if you're among those left only with high-volume base cards and that's all and you bought a bunch. One and done is fine for me ... and I'm perhaps going to be even more selective this year if I dig in at all.

SIMPLICITY THAT WORKS
The Card: Michael Harris 2023 Topps Museum Collection -- Rookie Card
The Price: $1.25
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This is a solid little card of a Rookie of The Year from a premium brand ... and yet it cost me only that. That's perhaps why I'm doing more singles and less ripping right now as box SRPs remain a little wacky vs. the reality of demand for the inclusions. That's not a new thing, really, but the divides between good boxes and lesser boxes, which are most boxes, might be wider than ever. (I'm paying attention ... and just grabbing what I want/like.) This is one of those ... and a thick-stock RC like this is also a nice grading candidate despite other cards commanding more dollar value.

ICONIC INK
The Item: Mariah Carey autographed 8-by-10 photo (BAS certified)
The Price: More than a signed CD sleeve ... way, way, waaaayyy less than signed vinyl
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Buzz has been letting MTV Classic roll all day in the background while Buzzing and, as I've said in other recent items, that's led to some curiosity searches and this is an addition of some ink to the stash for a 1990s-forward icon and, really, an all-time great at this point in music. Her autograph is simple -- a Mariah or an MC -- and it can be very sloppy, too. Those are both things that can lend themselves to fakes and, given prices, I suspect there are a lot even if she does sign when in public. (It's possible but there won't be any super-long signing sessions.) Based on what's out there, it does look like she's done some occasional CD-sleeve bulk signings and Funko Pop! toys seem to be legit signed pieces regularly, too. While I'd love to have on oversized photo (I prefer larger photos over 8-by-10s just for their visual impact and often size of sig), the cost there and on vinyl can push or even top $1,000 if a piece looks good, has a good auto and is third-party authenticated. (With her, I think it would be super risky not to buy anything certified.) In this case, I found this for a small fraction of what those items might cost -- still a meaty price but with a relatively clean auto. It's not perfect, but I wouldn't/couldn't afford perfect but the photo here is bold and pretty clean for what looks like a night-time image. It's a solid starter that lets me cross a big name off my list of 1990s-on iconic names I'd want for ink. Ideally, I'd want to have items like this authenticated and encased but that, too, can mean a higher price as that can be more appealing, too. Other photos this size can cost as much as 2-3X what I paid, too, with lesser ink (and her auto has changed though the years) ... so this one was a sweet spot for me considering all variables.

A RARER PARALLEL
The Card: Shotzi Blackheart 2020 2020 Topps NXT Silver Autographs (/25)
The Price: Around the same as what a box costs now ... if you can even find one.
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This go-to name in my collection is one you should know by now as a regular reader and this auto card in all of its colors has popped up here often in both Buzz Buys and Making The Grade as it's a favorite with her full WWE-style auto -- she signed differently before she had to sign in bulk and her ink devolved even more after this first signing. This color had eluded me price-wise in the past but I had to grab it this time. It's also a very condition-sensitive set with on-card autos but this card was soooo clean it went from my mailbox to graders' hands ... so you'll see it again soon. I don't really have a Holy Grail card any more -- I'm realistic about what I can spend -- but the 1/1 Red of this might be close to that ... and I briefly saw it once on a site with a price I couldn't swing before it vanished hours later. (I never even saved a copy of the photo but at least I know it was pulled and it was clean.)

TWICE AS NICE
The Cards: Birdie's Young Sluggers (Ed Bailey, Birdie Tebbets, Frank Robinson) 1958 Topps
The Price: About $20 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This card is easily an all-time favorite ... so much so I have no idea how many I own. I recently started a mass organizing of some of my graded cards and spotted more than one of these slabbed -- no idea how many I have on that front, either -- but that doesn't mean I don't want more if the price is right. These presented themselves on the cleaner end of the spectrum -- save for that centering on the second -- and they'd also be possible slab candidates (despite that centering). That's how much this second-year card of a Hall of Famer and historically successful slugger is on my radar. It's one of my favorite vintage cards of all time.

VINTAGE VALUE
The Item: Willie Mays -- Sport, June 1956
The Price: $9.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: There are a bunch of magazines -- new and old -- I have picked up in recent years all with an eye on grading and this is, without question, one of them despite obvious condition issues it has and, well, that mildly annoying (but not too annoying) address label. This mag is pushing 70 years old and has issues -- and it's from just five years after his Rookie Card -- but it will be in a slab at some point before its birthday as it just looks good even with its flaws. I didn't get much slabbed for mags in 2024 but it's on the list for this year for sure -- and this should still check in somewhat respectfully on the grading scale. Even with a lower mark it will look good ... especially at that price.

TIFFY TIME!
The Card: Tiffany Stratton 2023 Panini Immaculate Collection WWE (/75)
The Price: $30
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: The thick-stock releases with big price tags just aren't in my ripping wheelhouse -- even for WWE where I am comfortable to spend more on a box -- but in some instances I will pony up a little more than I normally might for a decent base card or parallel, and Stratton's first appearance in this brand qualifies. (Nothing in the set for her rookie year.) I've said it often I'm not a big fan of a basic cut-out photo plopped onto a texture or shapes -- it's done way too much from all companies in all sports -- but the angle of this photo and the lines from her stance at least help fill up the frame. Those corners with color can often showcase flaws in this brand but this copy was clean and that, along with the price, was among the reasons I grabbed this one. I suspect we'll see big things for her in 2025.

A NEWER GLOBETROTTER
The Cards: Jahmani "Hot Shot" Swanson 2022 Skybox Metal Universe Champions Precious Metal Gems Red (/100), 2022 Upper Deck Goodwin Champions Playing Card & 2022 Upper Deck Goodwin Champions Goudey Autographs
The Price: Under $6 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This 4-foot-5 Harlem Globetrotter wasn't on my radar when I did a dive for multi-sport sets online but, well, the autograph of "Hot Shot" for $1 spoke to me for the unique factor here and the rest was super-affordable where this was a collection-starter. Here's his story.

A VINTAGE GAMER
The Item: Steve Swisher early 1980s game-used K75 Louisville Slugger
The Price: About $70 shipped
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This is a past buy where it sat for a while as I couldn't find anything to get it closer to a precise time of use (admittedly light use) research-wise for a Collecting Game-used item, but that wasn't the only reason it never made its way into a lineup. I got it for a pretty solid price ... but there was some burning here when I looked at my shipping cost that I had agreed to when bidding. (More than half of that cost above was for shipping ... and it shouldn't have been. Always read your auction listings, kids.) Anyway, based on the style of the Louisville Slugger center brand, this is from 1980 forward until that design changed in 2013 -- that's a long time. Swisher played for the Cardinals in 1980 and then the Padres in 1981 -82 before some time in the minors in 1983 before hanging them up. There's also a chance this bat could be from his time as a coach or manager after that, but I think that's probably less likely ... but you never know. Rather than let it sit building research dust and continued shipping angst, I figured I'd throw it in here this time as one of a few surprises. (Buzz buys all kinds of stuff these days, not just cards.)

BLACK FRIDAY BARGAIN
The Card: Evangeline Lilly autographed Ant-Man 16-by-20 photograph (/100) -- via UDA
The Price: $24.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: My Black Friday buying was lighter this year in some ways -- stuff simply caught my eye more before the deals hit everywhere -- but this one was too simple and cheap to pass up. An oversized photo for $100 less than its regular price was a win to me with it being a numbered edition and card-like in its style. Her auto cards can cost more here for sure, and there were other images where it's just a standard signed photo. (Their stock image is seen here -- the size and glare/lighting for my item were not cooperative at photo time.) The item just presents itself better for this Lost star who also had her share of Marvel and Hobbit roles as well as other credits before she opted for retirement last year at age 45. She's left the door open for some future spots down the line so this wasn't a buy based off that ... just something that struck me as nice for the price. (Heck, top-loaders for 16-by-20s aren't cheap, either. Got that, too.)

SELECTING THE TIE-DYE
The Card: Shotzi Blackheart 2023 Panini Select WWE Ringside Action Tie-dye parallel (/25)
The Price: $35
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: I've developed a bit of a thing for Tie-dye parallels for some Panini sets -- especially with this colorful star who I collect -- after really not liking them in the past. Simple as that.

THE BELOVED ANGRY EDITOR
The Card: J. Jonah Jameson (J. K. Simmons) 2007 Marvel Spider-Man 3 Case-Topper Costume Relic
The Price: $8.50
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This was too cheap to ignore as I think everybody needs an angry editor in their collection. (Why? Why not? *Pounds table*) I liked this one as it included a couple more colors on the swatch, while most I saw when I found this one did not. Not a big bonus but just a little detail ... and it looks like you can match that detail to the tie he's wearing in the photo.

TICKET TO RIDE
The Card: Ronald Acuña Jr. 2022 Leaf Game Day Ticket Collection
The Price: $8
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This ticket stub in a card was a good name with a good price, so I bit. Another plus? It's from his rookie year -- 36th career game to be exact -- where he went 0-for-3 but picked up his second career HBP in a 7-2 loss to the Brewers.

BABY SPICE ... ON LOCATION
The Card: Emma Bunton (aka Baby Spice) 1990s Bravo magazine stickers (Germany)
The Price: $6
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This small card came off of a sheet of several subjects attached to the inside of a German pop culture/music magazine that's made various stamps/stickers (no adhesive) and other inserts (card-like photos and posters) as enticements to buy for literally decades now. But, since I'm not exactly hitting up Europe any time in this lifetime, this cardboard find was new to me. With MTV Classic on heavy rotation for me as I have noted before, this popped up on a curiosity search and was an easy grab with it being a photo from a memorable video that's on heavy rotation. Yep, that's totally Kung Fu Candy on this card. The sticker sheets don't have lines to follow as they are more card-like elements in a collage -- they're not even the same shapes or sizes -- so I'll excuse the bottom border cut here. This is smaller than even an Allen & Ginter mini.

A PACK OF DOGPOOLS
The Cards: Dogpool 2019 Upper Deck Marvel Deadpool Meet the Pools! (10)
The Price: $3.50
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This pocket-change pick-up was a low-risk way to scout some cards for a potential high-grade Dogpool slab on the cheap but take a look at that bottom left corner on all of those ... not happening. Bummer. (These were stock-photo pick-ups via COMC so that's not a miss on me ... but at pocket change I'll survive.)
Grab a box right here: Nothing for this ... but Marvel cards are here.

A CLEAN THROWBACK
The Card: Sonny Liston & Floyd Patterson -- Boxing Illustrated Wrestling News, September 1963
The Price: $9.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Boxing isn't really on my collecting radar -- not enough new cardboard for that -- but these two names from the last are big and the amount of damage here is small. It's not perfect but it's very clean for its age ... and that got me to bite for a low price where I pick off a lot of stuff. It may not happen immediately, but curiosity here will likely lead this one to a CGC slab. That red frame on the design is clean save for corner spots on the spine.

TWO OUTTA THREE AIN'T BAD
The Card: Mac Jones, Jalen Hurts & Tua Tagovailoa 2023 Panini Prestige Alma Maters
The Price: Pocket change
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This trio of Alabama QBs has had ups and downs in the NFL but for pocket change I grabbed this one with no hesitation. After all, they all had plenty of college success and that's why I'm adding them to my stash ... I don't have a pro team these days unless my fantasy team counts. Over time, combo cards like these typically don't age that well -- especially when autographs are involved -- but for me that's not a worry.

ROUNDING THINGS OUT ...
The Cards: Bill Connelly 1984 TCMA Greats (1952 Giants pitching staff), 1991 Topps Archives The Ultimate 1953 Set & 1953 Topps (black bio text)
The Price: Around $6 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: What is this? It's a trio of pick-ups that, I think, help me complete an entire collection of this player's stuff when it comes to baseball card appearances. Who is this player? Check out this item in the archives as to why he came on my radar. That photo is still one of my favorite oddball finds in recent years.

A CLASSIC CARD ... AND A SLEEPER?
The Card: Kurt Angle 2002 Fleer WWE Royal Rumble
The Price: $4.25
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Buzz was clearly feeling rich grabbing this ... at least considering I'm sure I own at least one somewhere deep among boxes and boxes of base from years ago when I pulled them from packs. Why grab? Well, only recently did I realize that this truly classic card -- there's so much going on in this perfectly framed photo -- is from John Cena's very first TV match in WWE on June 25, 2002. Here's the exact moment the photo happens (watch for the cameraman's strobe flashes). Why did I grab? Well, Cena's retirement tour kicks off next week and this card is a massive cameo card from a set where his Rookie Card appears ... I feel like I need a high-grade slab here. The real question is whether I work it into a sub or not before Cena is done.

A THROWBACK
The Item: Scott Pruett 2001 University of Alabama 1:24 scale Hot Wheels Ford Taurus
The Price: Just under $30 ... because I just needed it.
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: I was reminded of this old retail diecast by something new in the NASCAR realm and after a quick price check I grabbed it as, well, I wasn't 100-percent sure I still owned one of these. This was a hot seller back in the day as it was a college football crossover car for one race in the fall of 2000 but not one for a driver with a massive fan base ... so, realistically, there may not have been as many made here vs. a top star. Back then I was able to find one and then a relative hunted one down, too, but I got rid of a lot of NASCAR stuff I had sitting before more-recent moves. I know one of my two had been jettisoned -- they were pushing $100 at some point with SRPs of these being nowhere near that -- but there's a 50-50 chance I now am back up to two. This one will stick.

IT'S WEDNESDAY (ADDAMS), YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS ...
The Cards: Steph De Lander autographed "Spooky kiss card" (only via her website)
The Price: $9.99 apiece
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This former WWE star didn't have a lot of cardboard during her time known as Persia Pirotta in NXT, but her time since working a little bit of everywhere in the indies has raised per profile and her merch game. These are among a bunch of cards she's had made and sells on her website along with match-used gear, photoshoot-used items and then more traditional stuff like shirts, signed photos and other SDL-style novelties that fans might want. I recently picked off a small lot of cards since the overall price of anything inked was this modest ... or even less. The hustle has been there and the quick creations are fun -- this is a nod to Wednesday of The Addams Family and Wednesday -- and was likely timed to arrive around Halloween.

SQUAD'S ALL HERE ...
The Card: Suicide Squad 2022 Sanshu DC Extended Universe Series 1
The Price: $3.25
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: I'll admit that newer international non-sports companies aren't really on my radar but the cards from this Chinese company look really, really nice and this montage of the key actors from this film is interestingly crafted with thick stock, holofoil and other touches. The set is pretty simple -- five tiers of 36 cards apiece with the tiers being of rarer classification and then some other chase cards. This is a base card here but doesn't feel like it at all.

'TIS THE SEASON
The Card: Jennifer Lopez 2020 Topps Now Election (announced /6,659)
The Price: Under $3
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: The handful of performers who got cards in this one -- leading up to and election and then after -- add some serious variety to what's normally a lineup of politicians' cards of varying demand. Lopez has other cards but this one still can sell pretty well when slabbed. Raw copies like this can be pretty cheap despite Now being pretty slab-friendly. I have no plans to grade here but could. I grabbed it since it was something different. Others of note in the set include Lady Gaga, Garth Brooks and Amanda Gorman and JLo is perhaps still in the most demand based on asking prices. Also of note in this set? Mike Pence with the fly and Bernie Sanders with his mittens.

A BOATLOAD OF BO ...
The Cards: A boatload of Bo Bichette (and Anthony Kay) 2020 Topps Heritage Rookie Cards
The Price: All pocket change apiece
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This was a self-amusement run where I picked off 31 copies of this one all in one session just for fun -- basically every copy under $1 -- and for a total price of around two slabs would cost me if I were bargain hunting there. Why? I'm a sucker for Heritage rookies and his stuff got so cheap last year I just wanted to do some good old-fashioned 1980s-style hoarding. I'll likely do more ... I collect him.

WE WANT MINA
The Card: Mina Shirakawa (in Club Venus) 2023 Bushiroad NJPW/Stardom Vol. 2
The Price: $9
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This card set is super simple -- full-bleed photos on front and back with a look and feel almost like a credit card but no plastic stock (unlike some Stardom promotion sets), but I grabbed this as the AEW star here doesn't have an absolute boatload of cards. (Her pre-stardom Rookie Card in a BBM set is a little pricey for me and has more of a rookie look to the photo, while this one is closer to the here and now.) I'll eventually add this to a growing stash of slabs for the whole Toni Storm/Mariah May/Mina Shirakawa triangle.

NEW DREW
The Item: Boys On The Side (1995) lot of eight 8-by-10 lobby cards with appearances by Drew Barrymore, Whoopi Goldberg & Mary-Louise Parker
The Price: $9.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: I picked off this set of clean lobby cards as a bit of a throw-in with some other stuff where I buy regularly but it wasn't without a purpose -- nearly all of them fit into my Barrymore collection and once I've got either a press kit or a card set (don't need both) I can cross that off. I was a little surprised to see that Matthew McConaughey wasn't on a card here as he did have a promo photo for media ... so perhaps this isn't a full set. No idea ... and the mystery factor kind of makes hunting this kind of stuff a more-interesting/never-ending thing vs. knowing precisely what is on a trading card checklist.

BIG BOTCH
The Card: Joe DiMaggio, Duane Pillette & Bob Milliken 1979 TCMA Baseball History Series The 1950s (serious printing botch)
The Price: Under $2
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: The front of this Hall of Famer's card is a smidge dark but otherwise pretty clean ... but that back? It's got the front photos of two other guys printed over each other in at least three colors and maybe all four for both of them. This is a serious botch and the kind of stuff that typically hits the trash can and never goes out the door ... but somehow these and plenty more TCMA messes can be found over on COMC where I landed this. Most are cheap as they should be but in some instances people are trying to challenge the market with stiffer asking prices ... all in the eye of the beholder, though these should be far rarer than normal cards.

RETRO FLAIR
The Card: Randall Cunningham 2022 Panini Legacy For the Ages
The Price: Under $1
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Cunningham was the first NFL player I seriously collected back in the day -- I started ripping NFL packs with 1989 Pro Set and picked him in 1990 -- so I'll occasionally check in to see what newer stuff strikes me as interesting. This is one of those times ... a kind of 1960s vibe going here. What's up with it? No clue ... but it's different so it keeps my attention pretty well for pocket change.

NEVER SAW IT, NEVER SAW THESE ... OR THE MOVIE
The Card: Barry Pepper (as Jonnie Goodboy Tyler) 2000 Upper Deck Battlefield Earth PowerDeck
The Price: Under $4
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: I know two things about this -- one, I never saw these where I lived back then (I saw and bought a single pack of the MLB PowerDeck release at a Toys R Us) and, two, I really want Pepper's certified auto from the same set made for this movie. Why? It carries an every-letter kind of autograph that he no longer signs and it's pretty rare at only 200 copies. (It would be for my Roger Maris/61* part of my collection ... Pepper played Maris in that one.) The three-auto checklist is solid -- Pepper, John Travolta and Forest Whitaker (all /200). I had no idea this existed, so that's why I grabbed one of these cards which were seeded at least one per hobby box. One thing I also know is that I no longer have a computer with a CD tray to see what's on here.

PROMOTIONAL FOR ... A CARD SET?
The Item: Beavis & Butt-Head 1994 promotional photo ... for their Fleer Ultra card set
The Price: About $8
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This popped up on a search of press photos but without any companions like it might for a TV media packet or for their movie back in the day ... but the word "card" got me to stop and look and turns out those images, which are the same as their card fronts, are joined by verbatim text from the card backs. Were there more? No idea ... I've never seen these otherwise.
