Buzz buys and busts a lot of boxes right here for Buzz Breaks, but one of my goals is to rip a little less and talk more about cardboard that I -- and you -- might like. One way to do that? Simple show and tell -- present a few pick-ups and say why they captured my attention.
So, with all that said, here are a few Buzz Buys ... a lot of my usual suspects and some early spring cleaning as I've always got plenty of stuff lined up to appear here.

AS YOU KNOW ... I BUY BO
The Card: Bo Bichette 2023 Topps Tribute Stamp of Approval Relics (/196)
The Price: $13
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: If you're a regular reader, then you know Bichette is in heavy rotation here and I sprung a little more than I might usually for a memorabilia card to grab one of these premium-brand Relics that has a little extra attached ... just to talk about it here. As you can see at right (click for a closer look if you need it) this piece comes from a jersey worn on May 21, 2021, that was then cut up and authenticated a second time -- for this exact piece -- that got its sticker on Sept. 1, 2022 ... all for you to know which specific game, event and season it came from. (Spoiler: Other game-used Relic items were stickered, too, they're just not noted on every card as some releases will inevitably have more than one item used, creating a logistics nightmare between cards printed and pieces available.) I don't mind these, but at the same time it's not necessary on every card as the time and organization that it requires isn't worth it for the cost for the company to do it all the time, it could cause even more errors, and it doesn't add much value -- you can find these with some interestingly low prices through the years.

THAT ONE DISNEY GUY ...
The Card: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (aka Frank Wolff in Jungle Cruise) 2023 Kakawow Phantom Disney 100 Years of Wonder
The Price: Under $1
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This release had all kinds of collectors -- newbs and veterans -- paying big bucks for the chromed-out rarities found here in a set that looked all directions as part of Disney's century of creations last year. I didn't rip a pack -- probably because I never saw them in-person as they're an import -- but I did grab this one as, well, you know ... dude's a wrestler, an actor and a former football player with cards in all those realms. This, I believe, is his first card in the Disney world ... unless some Moana cameo card is out there somewhere. (Not really my specialty.) Slabs here are "available" so prices can be low on the standard stuff, but I have grabbed a slabbed something I'll trot out in Making The Grade at some point, too.

DOMINANT PHOTOGRAPHY
The Card: Derrick Henry 2023 Panini Luminance Red (/25)
The Price: About $6 shipped
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This pick is all about the photo, which showcases this NFL demolisher at RB taking on Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Travon Walker. It may or may not be from some dominating run, but it shows a one-on-one battle in a way we don't often see on cardboard as "hero shots" typically don't show a star making a defender look bad. (This one is more 50-50, really, anyway.) But, this set is absolutely loaded with super action shots as well as feature/reaction photos that just make for a good package. It's also loaded with parallels that probably affects values as there's really too much ... but I'd rather have that than none at all or have them be too rare. This release is also super-clean when it comes to the printing and cutting from what I have seen with a matte holofoil feel to it ... so clean and so nice this one made its way into a grading submission of mine. (That's how much I like this card.) The parallel colors are around the name and some colors also add texture into the mix -- most have a very similar feel so that's probably another reason why the premium prices aren't that strong in some instances. That's fine ... these are still some really solid cards and it's perhaps a candidate for one of the best NFL sets ever when it comes to photos. Yep, I said it.

SOMETHING DIFFERENT
The Card: Megan Eugenio aka "Overtime Megan" 2023 Leaf Metal (/315)
The Price: $35 shipped via leaf
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This comes from a regularly appearing brand sold online and sold to-order from the company with announcers, NIL athletes, pro athletes, online personalities, TV notables and others among the past weeks with some costing more than others. I've been tempted a few times but never bit ... but the release has prompted me to explore who's who in the realm and, at worst, learn some off-radar names people out there in the world might collect. In my mind, unique cardboard -- especially with ink -- could be of note later if names pop up elsewhere or go viral for whatever reason down the line. In this case, it was a combo of seeing some hot-take vids that were in but not solely about the sports realm (a lot of food chatter on one search) that got me to bite here (pun probably intended) to add something from the genre. I figured the Overtime tie-in might not hurt, either.

BIG-SPENDING BUZZ ...
The Card: Shotzi Blackheart 2020 Topps WWE Women's Division Pink Autographs (/150)
The Price: More than what a box cost ... but it was worth it.
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This rookie-year auto from "The Ballsy Badass" had eluded me and some parallel colors have gotten pricey -- especially the green ones and I'll let you ponder why -- but I finally paid up for this one with it being a clean copy. Why? It's got a strong studio portrait and an on-card auto with her complete early-in-WWE sig that doesn't really exist any more with more and more signing to be done. (You'll see more when you keep reading as I've dropped pretty much all of my remaining Shotzi autos from buying last year into this edition.) She looks to be out for a while with an injury, so that's a bummer, but I'm still a collector ... definitely not buying to sell here. She's in demand from some deep-pocketed fans out there paying big for rarer stuff, though, so maybe her time off will help me find some cards for less than what I paid here. It was not cheap but I had to cross it off the list -- well, at least one parallel color. I'd like to grab some others ... but we'll see.

STAMP OF APPROVAL
The Card: Rey Skywalker (Daisy Ridley) 2016 Topps Star Wars Masterwork Stamp Cards Bronze (/99)
The Price: $14
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This card comes from a premium brand and that's probably why I grabbed it as it's a nice example of a stamp Relic -- and it's a kind of card that has a decent feel to it, too, with all the Masterwork touches. There are parallels in play here, too, and prices can be a lot higher than this ... so that's one more reason I pounced. It's a nice price for a key character for sure.

GOING FOR GOLD
The Card: Nick Swisher 2016 Donruss Optic Back To The Future Signatures Gold (/5)
The Price: About $25
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: My player hasn't had new cardboard in years now and that's fine to me -- I dabble a lot elsewhere as it is -- but when this rarer card popped up I had to grab it. Simple as that.

MAKIN' MONEY ...
The Card: Ventris C. Gibson 2022 Decision 2022 Midterm Madness Money Card
The Price: Under $5
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This brand is one I've pondered opening something of for a Buzz Break countless times but never have as there's so much to loathe inside the packs in terms of names -- most of them, really -- but there are some creative cards to be found with this one a prime example. That's shredded currency embedded into the card under the plastic window. The first question I had though when I saw it was "Who the heck is Ventris C. Gibson?" And this card was an easy addition when I got my answer -- "Director of the United States Mint." It's a card that makes extra sense. Shredded currency used to be available in big bags -- six-pounders per this one -- from the U.S. Mint so it's not really all valuable ... but they do make for some quirky cards.

TWO OF A KIND ...
The Cards: Shotzi Blackheart 2022 Panini Immaculate Collection WWE Premium auto-mem (/99) & Red parallel (/25)
The Price: About $90 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This brand is one that was too lean for its super-premium price in my book -- or, to say that a different way, too risky for my taste if I ripped one with a worst-case scenario for its contents -- so I grabbed a number of singles for this high-energy star who I collect. I've trotted out most others before this but ink arrives here this time with the rarer one here being cheaper than it should have been -- and that's since the seller knew it had some back damage but didn't admit it in advance. (I'll survive.) For the price I still thought it looked nice ... just not worth a slab. (Really most mem cards aren't in my mind as a lot can be tweaked in their manufacturing.) The photo here is strong for this type of card with a slightly limited amount of real estate for a photo and it's super-simple ... I just wish I could find more. Rares have dried up or gone up in price as box breaking has slowed over time since this one's arrival.

TOY AISLE IMPULSE BUY ...
The Figure: Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) Star Wars The Black Series Star Wars: Ahsoka figure
The Price: About $25 out in the retail wild
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This was a 1oo-percent impulse buy in the retail wild when the card aisle was lean ... and I knew it was perhaps not the best price but I did it anyway as this was my first time spotting a figure of Dawson in the Star Wars realm in-person. (I don't scout toys as hard as I used to ... really not much at all ... but I did on this day.) The packaging artwork here is strong and I like the feel of it a little more than the traditional clamshell on a single piece of cardboard approach ... those figures have also gotten pricier over the years, too. I tend to grab a figure for key names here and there -- sometimes as let-'em-breathe desk items, sometimes as in-package shelf-riders. So far, this one remains sealed.

PRIME COLORS?
The Card: Jim Bintliff 2023 Topps Allen & Ginter A-style Relics
The Price: Under $3
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Who's he? He's the official and only supplier of mud -- yes, mud -- to MLB to rubdown baseballs to be prepped for game use. Baseballs get a layer of his Lena Blackburne Official Baseball Rubbing Mud to help them be a little more grippable vs. clean, shiny ones and here's the process and story -- watch it and learn something today like I did. Ginter is always the home to oddball inclusions and I appreciate the ones that are tied more to the game than celebs. Since I pretty much didn't do Ginter last year like I might have in past years, I picked off a few oddball Relics here and there and this one was one of few with a little extra on the fabric -- a "prime" piece so to speak -- so I grabbed it. (I have a feeling it could have been matched to the shirt in the photo but whatever it said was probably removed for trademark reasons.) MLB is experimenting with baseballs that have better grip, so there may come a day where this long-running need and tradition may come to an end ... so him getting cards (though they aren't alone on this front) is a nice addition in the here and now.

I SOMEHOW OVERLOOKED THIS ...
The Card: Eddie Gaedel 2006 SP Legendary Cuts -- "Rookie Card?"
The Price: $2
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This is a card that's been around for some time yet somehow it escaped my attention all these years -- and I think I even opened a box of this stuff -- but this was an easy grab when I was doing some simple name searches to see what cards some past names might have. Who is he? He was the star attraction as part of a Bill Veeck publicity stunt as owner of the St. Louis Browns hired Gaedel to head to the plate just once in a game in 1951 -- and since he was just 3-foot-7 he was walked on four pitches. He doesn't have much cardboard in general -- some, but not a lot -- and this is his only in-pack MLB card from a major manufacturer in the modern era. (The 1961 Nu-Cards Baseball Scoops card would be its only rival on the potential RC front.)

SO CLEAN I SHOULD HAVE SLABBED IT
The Card: Bo Bichette 2022 Topps Gypsy Queen Crystal Gazing Die-Cuts Indigo (/250)
The Price: About $6
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This price seems a little high for me so I don't know why I grabbed it ... but what I do know is this card looked good and is remarkably clean to the point that it will probably be a low-priority grading submission at some point. It feels like a definite elite-grade candidate. It's definitely a gimmicky insert from a brand I used to buy boatloads of but pretty much barely open now.

INTERNATIONAL CARD TYPES ...
The Cards: Kayo Noumi 2004 BBM True Heart memorabilia card (/180) & Kei Akiyama 2004 BBM True Heart kiss card (/383)
The Price: $15 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This pair comes from a small lot of Japanese wrestling cards I grabbed literally months (probably longer) ago but really never worked into a lineup here. Why? Well, I just didn't as other stuff took priority ... but I do know the reason I grabbed these. I wanted to see some examples of international takes on card staples here and both were pretty cheap to be my first examples of mem cards from a world away. Meanwhile, these are 20 years old this year -- time flies and both also appear to be retired.

DESTINI, ERR MILEY, GOT A GRAMMY ...
The Items: Miley Cyrus (and Billy Ray Cyrus) 1994 Celebrity Photo Agency slides
The Price: Pocket change as part of a larger $7 slide lot
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This trio of slides was tucked into a page of relics from the past prime of the country music phenom and they happen to show his young daughter known then as Destiny (misspelled on the slides) ... who later became known as "Hannah Montana" and is now firmly (legally) known as Miley Cyrus. You've probably heard of her. She was born in November 1992 so you can do the math here ... I'm sure there might have been some earlier media appearances out there somewhere (he was a big deal) but these are still pretty early items for this now Grammy-winning duo. My foray into grabbing slide lots has slowed but odd items like this -- and plenty of others -- show why are an interesting break from some of the mass-produced (these were to a degree) but overpriced (these aren't) stuff that can be readily available from the past, too.

THREE OF A KIND ...
The Cards: John Johnson 2006-07 Chronology NBA (/199)
The Price: About $11 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This trio of cards are a pure PC addition for me as they are among the only modern-era cards made for this player with some school ties for me. These were around a few years before I even knew they existed (I wasn't into NBA very hard a couple years after LeBron's arrival after I overdid it and never landed The Big One for him) but with only 199 copies made for all base cards here there probably weren't a lot of unopened boxes around me at that time, either. I've had some interesting "J.J." pick-ups in recent years and one of my biggest ones you'll see right here at some point soon this spring.

THROWBACK SIMPLICITY
The Card: Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) 2023 Topps Star Wars Throwback Thursday (announced /4,521)
The Price: Under $3
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This #TBT line recently returned for its second year -- it's this and MLB for Throwback Thursday -- and this was the card that launched the series -- it's the first card in the first three-card wave that's released every week by Topps. I skipped buying a bundle or two here but the simplicity of this clean photo meeting the 1952 Topps baseball design is both odd but interestingly simple. It's a kind of card I'd definitely slab but I haven't gotten it into a grading order yet as I figured with so many made others will do that, too. Other Leia cards will show up in Making The Grade here at some point this year, though -- and this could end up being one, too.

MORE SHOTZI INK ...
The Cards: Shotzi Blackheart 2022 Panini Impeccable WWE Elegance auto-mem (/99), 2022 Panini Chronicles WWE Absolute Tools Of The Trade auto-mem (/99), 2021 Topps Finest WWE Green Autographs (/99), 2022 Panini Select WWE Signatures
The Price: About $72 total (most of that is for the Green)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This array of ink straddles the Topps-Panini licensing handover and includes both on-card ink for both companies as well as some sticker action with all of them showing the newer and quicker sig that just comes with having to sign so much more stuff. These were all grabs over the last year or so -- not all at once -- but if prices soften some I will likely be loading up with more you'll see here ... plus more new WWE releases are on the way over the next couple of months.

FOLLOW THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD ...
The Item: The Wizard Of Oz 1939 advertisement page -- from Life magazine (Aug. 28, 1939)
The Price: $8
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This popped up in a deep dive from one dealer who specializes in pretty much anything and everything that's paper and it was cheap and interesting enough that I grabbed it with little hesitation. It's merely a page pulled from an old magazine that was both an advertisement for this iconic movie bet also to tout the technical aspects of a blockbuster filmed in color. (The movie arrived on Aug. 25, 1939, so the timing here is really interesting for back then.) The best part is that it showcases four of the key cast members, too, in a big, bold color photo as well as a hint of a couple others in the corner illustration. No, I'm not going to suddenly become a collector of advertisements but there are a lot of sellers and buyers of stuff like this for movies, automobiles, endorsements, food and so on and I think there are a lot of inner Don Drapers out there who like to digest and analyze stuff on a few levels. An extra thought ... CGC does encapsulate single pages from comic books (as long as they are a size that fits in a slab) and something like this would be cool, too, to help its presentation ... but this example is too large.

EMBEDDED INK
The Card: Nick Swisher 2014 Panini Immaculate Collection Immaculate Ink Gold (/15)
The Price: Under $9 ... shipped
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This ink from my player comes from a late wave of his auto cards as his playing days were winding down and it's a little more non-traditional approach with it being a trapped sig in a set that used a combo of acetate and foil-stamping here in a premium-priced brand. I think I have the rainbow to this one -- or am close to it -- but any time I can add a rarer-volume sig on the cheap, I will ... just for the heck of it.

IT REALLY TIED THE ROOM TOGETHER
The Card: The Dude (with rug) from The Big Lebowski Funko Pop! (SDCC exclusive)
The Price: $14.99 via a tech chain's website
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: The first Lebowski Funko Pop! toys first arrived in 2013 and 2014 ... so I missed on those. But, when I recently stumbled upon this one looking for other stuff online despite it being a convention figure, it was a no-brainer kind of addition. And it really tied the room together, man.

HAMMERED IT ...
The Card: Hank Aaron 1977-79 Sportscasters Series 11 Lausanne
The Price: Under $6
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Sportscasters were oversized educational but collectable flash cards that arrived in small batches at a time as part of a subscription -- you got info cards on countless subjects (sports and non-sports) as long as you paid up. They could teach kids (and others) about stuff without having to open a book or, you know, Google as that wouldn't be around for a few years. I grabbed this one as it's got an iconic Aaron photo -- that's from his 715th home run -- while teaching about the game of baseball on the back. (His own card in the series uses a photo from him celebrating after No. 715.) These are oversized and on a light cardboard so they aren't always that clean ... but there are literally thousands of different cards out there to consider -- they're worth the look. They're also relatively popular in slabs.

ANOTHER BIG BO ...
The Card: Bo Bichette 2021 Topps Heritage 1972 Topps box-toppers (announced /1,000)
The Price: Under $6
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Box-toppers also get an occasional look from me for at least some key names as, well, there's just a lot less of these out there vs. the standard stuff found inside boxes ... just from a volume perspective. Once boxes dry up then the volume of new toppers available will, too, and this one's here (likely for a second time) as it's my targeted active player and a brand I have probably ripped more than any other for the last couple decades.

A SIMPLE INSERT
The Card: Jose Canseco 2023 Topps Welcome to the Club
The Price: Pocket change
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This insert set jumped out at me when it was first teased as part of Series 1 last year. Why? It's a simple meshing of an action shot and some typography that's not often done in this way for cards ... and it could be. Is it traditional? Nope. Will all like it? Nope. But I think it works. This set is for various statistical achievers with Canseco being the first member of the 40/40 Club with 42 homers and 40 stolen bases as part of his MVP season in 1988. That's had cardboard before, of course, but this set highlighted a number of players and achievements through the years -- simple stuff with a not-that-simple visual.

FREE-SHIPPING THROW-IN ...
The Item: Spencer Strider 8-by-10 photograph
The Price: About $6 after sale/discount codes
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This is the textbook throw-in piece to get some free shipping over yonder -- and it's not the first time it's been Strider in this slot. I like the look of my previous grab more, but this one has its quirks, too.

COINED IT ... OR WERE THEY CHIPS?
The Item: Nick Swisher 2014 Topps Chipz Gold
The Price: $8.75 (?!?!)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This is from deep in my Buys archives -- I don't really remember why I grabbed it (or when) other than it's one of the better colors and my player. That price is definitely meatier than I would've paid for something like it ... but I did. These poker chip-style Chipz were made for a couple years for MLB with chase Relics and autos in play along with a bunch of parallels per se that included stuff like glow-in-the-dark and magnetic versions. I lived it back then, getting my hands on some, but I've kind of forgotten all the details for good reason ... but here we are. Collecting. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

WWE ODDBALL/IMPORTS
The Cards: Mickie James, Maryse Ouellet, Sasha Banks, Charlotte Flair, Liv Morgan assorted WWE imports and gaming cards
The Price: Probably about $10 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This half-dozen pick-ups from the recent past include playing cards (Morgan), UK gaming (Flair), a past food issue here with some Sportflics nods (James ... the top row is same item) and a food issue from south of the border (Maryse) and then one that I frankly don't even remember where they are from (Banks). There's a boatload of oddball merchandise out there for WWE internationally -- to the point that, yes, some of it's not legit -- but a lot of it is and these are some examples of the good stuff.

BOUGHT SOME SOLE
The Mags: Air Jordans: The Sneakers That Changed The Game! via 360Media Specials
The Price: About $3 total ($13.99 cover price ... each)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This pair of mags was a throw-in from a seller of cheap issues as I was buying a small lot and I figured that this one might be both interesting and maybe a candidate for an odd novelty slab if they were clean enough. Maybe on both fronts ... I know that the price was my key factor here with that main Michael Jordan visual a nice one. I also know that there's no way I would have bought this at $13.99 a pop.

RING MASTERS
The Cards: Triple H & Chris Jericho 2001 Fleer WWF Raw is War War Booty Ring Mat & Ring Skirt cards
The Price: About $15 total (most of that for Triple H)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This pair has been bouncing around in my stashed stuff to show up here for some time and I finally just threw them in to wrap things up this month since WrestleMania is coming. Both are big names from this earlier Fleer set but they're cards with memorabilia that's unique (ring skirt) and common (ring mat) ... but at the time these were still in demand.

SHE DIDN'T RETURN ...
The Cards: A.J. Lee 2013 Topps WWE Divas Snapshot & 2015 Topps Chrome WWE Night of Champions Mat Relics
The Price: About $20 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: There was a lot of hopeful thinking that this former WWE Divas champ might return to the company this year at the Royal Rumble but ... it didn't happen. That's fine as I didn't add these cards because of that. I used to try and collect her stuff while she was active but these days there's just not as much to choose from. I already had the three-panel Snapshot card at least a couple times over -- I slabbed one and it was my first BGS 10 -- but I paid up (for some reason) for this one at a higher price than my first for sure and then I added the Relic more recently as Chrome stuff is not as easily found in some instances now.

MORE BARRYMORE SLIDES
The Slides: Drew Barrymore (along with Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu, Edward Norton, Tom Green, Luke Wilson and others)
The Price: Probably about $50 via a handful of small lots
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This grouping of slides comes a few small lots that added to that price some but as a key name I dabble with I was interested in building up a small collection of these quickly -- just for the heck of it. Why? I just thought these little time capsules are interesting when they include the IDs and exact dates on them. Yes, there's repetition on a lot of them but if you look closely they are not identical ... they've got slight movements going on. Some more obvious than others and some are better than others but that comes with lot buying ... you get the better and the lesser ones all at once. They're a little annoying to handle as they are smaller than cards but they can go in toploaders or album pages quite easily. It's interesting that no card company has (yet) tried buying up celeb lots like this just to make some affordable pop culture memorabilia cards that really probably wouldn't need licensing since they're items that already exist and can be found easily for tons of names.
