Buzz buys and busts a lot of boxes right here for Buzz Breaks, but one of my goals is to rip a little less and talk more about cardboard that I -- and you -- might like. One way to do that? Simple show and tell -- present a few pick-ups and say why they captured my attention.

So, with all that said, here are a few Buzz Buys ...

FROM 61* TO CARDBOARD ...
The Card: Roger Maris & Barry Pepper 2021 Leaf Ultimate Sports The Ultimate Duo (/12)
The Price: $25
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This one flew under my radar for sure until I recently spotted it and had to grab it instantly. For those who don't know, actor Berry Pepper played Roger Maris in 61* -- trailer here -- a 2001 Billy Crystal movie made for HBO. It's easily among the best baseball movies out there for accuracy as Crystal is an obsessive Yankees fan who notes it all in behind-the-scenes segments you can see on the DVD. This one pairs a piece of what is likely a Maris bat with a piece of what looks like a leather jacket for Pepper -- not the most-ideal combo of items, but it is what it is. This is the only card pairing the two and it's the easiest version to find -- the rest of the parallels and printing plates have lower numbering here -- all /6 and below ... no wonder this one was off my radar for three years. I simply hadn't seen any of them.

ANOTHER BIG BO ... SWATCH
The Card:
Bo Bichette 2020 Panini Select Rookie Jumbo Swatches Tri-Color Prizm (/99)
The Price:
About $7
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This big colorful red swatch isn't the norm -- think about the Jays' typical unis -- and that's one reason it stood out to me beyond the rarer volume, colorful look and bargain price. Oh, and it's from his RC year, too.

THE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
The Card: Thomas Ian Nicholas 2023 Topps Allen & Ginter Relics A
The Price: $2.25
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Forget the typo on the Rookie Of The Year's name here ... what's interesting is that MLB allowed a non-player to wear a uniform in a MLB set and that's not the norm. In fact, not airbrushing off non-players' clothing would have made a lot of the oddball inclusions here better cards over the years. This card includes what is likely a piece of a Cubs jersey but obviously not likely his jersey from his 1993 film -- trailer here. This one was too cheap to pass up -- though he's not a scarce auto these days and it's not a tough card -- but unique cards can tend to dry up over time and fare well with time. See The Sandlot cards from Topps Archives as one example.

ONE OF A KIND ...
The Card:
Bryce Young 2022 Leaf Metal Draft Armed & Dangerous Pre-Production Proof Silver Wave (1/1)
The Price:
About $13
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This No. 1 pick didn't have the kind of rookie season some might expect -- he's on the Panthers, people --  but I couldn't pass up this one for the ol' School Ties part of my collection with it being a 1/1 showing the school colors on the cheap.

DESTINED FOR A SLAB ...
The Card:
Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce -- MAD magazine April 2024
The Price:
More than cover
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
MAD magazine died and apparently returned in recent years and this, if I am reading things correctly, isn't a mag that showed up on newsstands. Instead the mag is direct sales only (comics shops) or subscriptions -- I think -- but that's all moot for me ... when I found out this existed a newer issue was already out and prices on these were a little higher than perhaps normal. I sprung for this at about the price of a blaster with full intent of grading it as it's a novelty piece for sure. These could be tough finds in top condition as the paper is so light that the spines appear to often have wrinkling all the way up. This one has those issues but everything else is kosher ... so I'll either have a fine issue or a big bummer of a surprise back from CGC later this year.

HER TIME IS NOW
The Card:
Tiffany Stratton 2022 Panini Chronicles WWE Rookie Cards & Bronze parallel
The Price:
About $6.50 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This trio of pick-ups was from last year ... so prices on her stuff were lower then than they are now with her flawless arrival to the WWE main roster on Smackdown. She doesn't have a ton of RCs from 2022 -- only a few sets dipped down into the NXT ranks more deeply -- and this might be one of the better ones, though this brand had its issues with printing problems. (Look for dents on backs.) For more thoughts, check out my past Buzz Buys and Making The Grade items -- she's been in there.

AN EPIC AUTOGRAPH
The Card:
Chelcie Ross (aka Eddie Harris in Major League) autographed MLB ball with inscriptions (BAS witnessed)
The Price:
About $50
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This is easily one of my favorite pieces of all time and it's all about the extras here with this witnessed ball from a private signing. It's not a rare thing -- he's apparently done some signings and you can find one of your own if you do some looking -- and it captures one of the best scenes in a perfect baseball movie full of them. See that scene here. Harris is an old-timer, a junk-baller pitcher, just trying to hang on and help out his team and he found out what happens when you steal Jobu's rum. (Jobu is slugger Pedro Cerrano's in-locker voodoo doll and his shrine is always stocked with rum -- to help him hit curveballs.) The classic line, his character name and the movie name all on the same ball ... that's how you make an inexpensive auto cooler.

A MAKER OF MERCH
The Items:
Shotzi Blackheart "Ballsy Buddy" enamel pins
The Price:
$15 apiece
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Pro wrestler Shotzi Blackheart is one of a few out there who has carried her name and persona from the indies into WWE without a name change and with a consistent look -- for the most part -- until recent times. These enamel pins measure about two inches apiece, and I had to have them when I saw them. Simple as that.

EXTRA PIECES
The Cards:
Nick Swisher multi-player memorabilia cards (with Rich Harden, Jermaine Dye, Jim Thome & Ken Griffey Jr.)
The Price:
About $15 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This pair of multi-player cards from the past were easy grabs at prices that might be lower than most would think with a pair of Hall of Famers on the quad. The Ultimate is rarer (/35) but the quad is one I hadn't ever landed until now ... probably because those Hall guys typically make it more expensive.

THREE MORE SHOTZI ...
The Cards:
Shotzi Blackheart 2022 Panini Impeccable WWE Gold (/35) parallel, 2022 Panini Immaculate Collection WWE Superstar Swatches (/99) & WWE  Immaculate Standard jumbo memorabilia (/99)
The Price:
About $35
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This trio of cards from premium brands are among a number of my pick-ups for this high-energy star over the last year. While I definitely picked them up as a collector -- no intent to sell -- her being out of action for some time after a fluke ACL injury will definitely put a damper on all her prices (out of sight, out of mind). Maybe that will let me find more?

A THROWBACK WITH MUPPETS
The Item:
Jennifer Connelly in Labyrinth 8-by-10 1986 press photo
The Price:
Under $7
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This isn't the first role of Connelly's lengthy and award-winning career, but it's likely among the first ones that many know her from as Labyrinth was a dark puppet- and music-fueled film with her across from all kinds of creatures as well as David Bowie. Old publicity photos like this from early (or big mainstream) movies for big names have been on my radar of late with them not as tough to find as you might think ... it's just a matter of cost vs. condition.

BACK ON THE FIELD
The Item:
Major League II press kit with photos showing Charlie Sheen, Tom Berenger & Corbin Bernsen
The Price:
$9.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This Major League sequel wasn't as strong as the first -- but it's better than the third -- and finding an albeit small kit for the movie for this small price was a win. There are more images that can be found but this one probably didn't get as much marketing love as most kits that pop up are this smaller one. While this movie isn't the bonafide classic that the first one is, there are still some classic characters found here ... and that's why this one is here.

HIS NAME AIN'T NATHAN ARIZONA
The Item:
Raising Arizona (Nicolas Cage & Holly Hunter) -- Film Comment, April 1987
The Price:
$9.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Speaking of classics -- Buzz is on a film kick this time with the Buys -- I was surprised to see two of the quirky characters from this 1987 film -- see its trailer here -- on a magazine cover at all. This arrived at almost the same time as the film, which has a strong cast as you can see in that trailer. It's not a perfect copy but it was clean enough I grabbed it -- and it's totally the kind of oddball thing I'd grade, though it's not as high-priority as others just yet.

INTERNATIONAL MEDIA
The Item:
Drew Barrymore 1995 Pica Pressfoto news service 8-by-10 glossy color print
The Price:
Under $10
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This one was a combination of low price, the moment and the oddity of it all -- it's a high-gloss color print -- most press photos are neither -- from an international photo service ... but of a Hollywood premiere (Batman Forever) in 1995. I'm sure I have one of the photo slides in a past Buzz Buys as part of my Barrymore collecting kick but had to add this, too. Why? It's a one example of how images used to be sent out for publications -- along with slides -- while everything now is just digital. How much of this stuff survived over the years ... even from the 1990s? You'll never know until you find another.

TWO GENERATIONS ... BUT ONLY ONE AUTO
The Item:
"Cowboy" Bob Orton autographed 8-by-10 photo (with Randy Orton) via Wrestling Universe
The Price:
$6
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This was an easy pick-up based the early image, which would make it a good candidate for being a dual-auto if that scenario presented itself. Cowboy Bob is a WWE Hall of Famer and was a key player in the early WrestleMania years with his broken arm happening in a match as part of the The War to Settle the Score event on MTV -- that helped Mania get more mainstream attention. After that, Orton was in the corner of the main event heel tag team (Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff) with his botched move (involving his "broken arm" cast) leading to their loss to Hulk Hogan and Mr. T. Orton's son will be a Hall of Famer, too, with a couple notable decades in the game. He's a 14-time world champ and has held pretty much all WWE belts at some point.

A LITTLE WING
The Item:
Jimi Hendrix Funko Gold 5-inch vinyl figure
The Price:
About $15 (maybe less ... might have been on sale)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
I didn't need this one per se, but when I spotted it out in the wild for the first time it was just too tough to pass up. Music stars on figures just stand out from the pack for me -- probably because there are just fewer of them vs. comic book or movie characters -- and I liked this one's simplified look.

JUST SCREAMS 1960s ...
The Item:
Claudia Cardinale Don't Make Waves (1967) press photo (with original info stamping on back)
The Price:
About $30
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
As my label above says, this star of countless films of the past in some instances screams 1960s to me and this is one of them. This 1967 comedy also includes Tony Curtis and Sharon Tate in her first film and it's one with a plot so simple it probably wouldn't make for a good TV show episode these days. Cardinale's Hollywood time isn't as extensive as her work in European projects but, man, there are boatloads of printed materials for so many movies (for many stars not just her) one can find on the absolute cheap if they look -- publicity photos, posters, lobby cards and more. About the only worry could be reproductions passed off as originals but I think that's only going to happen on the bigger, pricier names and movies.

TWO FOR FIVE ...
The Card:
Bo Bichette 2021 Panini Chronicles America's Pastime Dual Swatches
The Price: Under $5
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This dual-swatch card uses a premium-feel acetate finish that helps it stand out from the rest of the pack in Panini's catch-all brand and I dig it when it's this cheap. This is a little too simple with that logo backdrop -- I'd probably tweak it some or use a natural finish like the photograph it covers -- but for the price it was an easy hit to add to the Bichette stash.

BEFORE SHE WAS STIFLER'S MOM & THE WHITE LOTUS EMMY AWARDS ...
The Item:
Jennifer Coolidge circa 1997 color headshot and resume
The Price:
$2.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This isn't another press shot for a film but it's something from a genre of things that can be collected and popped up on related searches -- and just like those press kit photos stuff like this is likely to be used less and less now with so much of today's world going digital. What is this? It's a resume stapled to a headshot for Coolidge's agent to send to casting agencies or for her to hand out at auditions. What made this one interesting and be among a group of these I picked up on the cheap? Well, most of these photos aren't color for starters, so that's one reason this one stood out -- but I actually didn't recognize her here at all. Like most people, you might remember her best as Stifler's Mom in American Pie from 1999 but she'd been working since at least 1993 when she debuted (at least per IMDb) in an episode of Seinfeld. She's been in a ton of stuff since, of course, but there were a lot of auditions and headshots in those early years before it all took off in the early 2000s. Now, are these legit? I'd think so given the details on the resume ... and if somebody was trying to make the stuff and pass it off as real to max out some value the last thing they'd do is staple them to something. This just struck me as an interesting earlier item -- and a cheap type of piece among some others. You'll see more of these popping up here in the coming months.

A LITTLE CHROME
The Card:
Randall Cunningham 2021 Topps Allen & Ginter's Chrome Mini
The Price:
Pocket change
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This retro staple has been around since 2006 but not in its Chrome form -- that's a new arrival of only the last few years -- and the Chromed out take on 1800 retro ultimately doesn't work for me, so beyond ripping a hobby box one year I've really only done a few singles. With this being pocket change and an NFL player I collected heavily back in the day, this was an easy grab.

JOLTIN' JOE'S OTHER TEAM
The Card:
Joe DiMaggio 1977-79 Sportscasters Series 02 Lausanne A
The Price:
Abut $3.50
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
The New York Yankees legend was a coach for the Oakland A's briefly in the late-1960s and both teams are noted on this oversized educational card from about a decade later. These cards aren't impossible finds and aren't pricey, either, so landing this with the teams and that price was one done with little hesitation.

IS IT REAL? (YEP.)
The Mag:
Kelly LeBrock in Weird Science -- Prevue magazine, Sept. 1985
The Price:
$11.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This movie is a 1980s classic -- a classically dumb one at that (trailer here) -- and it was a surprise to see "Lisa" on a magazine cover during a deep dive for mags with grading in mind. Like the Total Film mag earlier, this title focuses on films and the home video market of the past and it presents a number of stars and works that probably didn't show up on People or other mags which had serious (and some not-so-serious) topics among their cover options.

WON'T BE MY LAST ...
The Card:
Bo Bichette 2023 Topps Heritage High Number puzzle box-topper (announced /500)
The Price:
About $15 shipped
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This is either my first or second one of these that I have tracked down -- depending on that you'll likely see this again. Why did I grab it? It's because this concept of an item -- a card-like puzzle shrink-wrapped to a piece of cardboard as a box-topper -- is so retro and yet so perfect for today's Heritage releases. Over time, I think these will get tougher to find with only an announced 500 copies per subject -- and they're not in every box -- and at some point boxes will dry up, too. There might be better names to chase here with there being Hall of Famers and some rookies in both series' sets of these, but this is my active player I collect.

SEEMED ODD ENOUGH ...
The Card:
The Baseball Bunch Fun Book
The Price:
$9.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This popped up where I buy a lot of stuff and it's from a TV show from 1980-85 where Johnny Bench, The Famous San Diego Chicken and others talked baseball for younger fans. It's like a coloring book/games magazine with some other stuff in there, too, but with this one going unused and closer to being minty-fresh I thought it was an interesting memorabilia pick-up.  (Here's one episode ... so you can hear the theme song above.) I can say I knew about this one as a kid but can't say I regularly watched it ... it was no longer in production by the time I was collecting cards and focused on baseball.

ON THE COVER OF A ROLLING STONE
The Item:
Jenny McCarthy autographed 11-by-14 photo from Rolling Stone July 1996 issue (BAS witnessed)
The Price:
Less than a flagship hobby box
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This pick-up came from my brainstorming of 1990s names of note -- I found her back in the day on MTV and then in the wrestling realm as a WrestleMania guest -- but there was plenty more where that came from with this being a tongue-in-cheek example of her place in pop culture back then -- a photo shoot for Rolling Stone. This ink popped up via an autograph dealer who does show promotions with a focus on cult classics and horror movies, so I bit here since it was a witnessed sig and a memorable cover -- and the photo/auto quality beats how a signed magazine might look. The wear and tear of the years probably would be too much for the oversized mag and the light paper that was used if that was an option ... but it wasn't. (Part of me would want a cover scan signed, though.)

A WWE THROWBACK
The Items:
Paige autographed 2016 Mattel WWE Series 66 action figure with WWE Raw lenticular ticket (Aug. 3, 2015, in San Jose, Calif.)
The Price:
$50
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
I found this one among my regular searches for a few wrestling names and it was an easy grab for the price -- but, really, I wanted it more for the ticket to be honest. Based on the ticket style, I'm betting this figure was signed at a VIP meet-and-greet on that day -- she was on Raw that night and got a win over Naomi just before the main event -- but can't be 100-percent sure. I did like that it was an earlier and more complete auto from Paige and it coincides how her ink looked when she was doing Wizard World appearances around that time. Her auto had more detail to it in early years and had a lot less to it in the time after this.

THREE OF A KIND
The Mags:
Toni Storm & Rhea Ripley -- Pro Wrestling Illustrated January 2024 & March 2024 issues (three each)
The Price:
About cover price (after shipping)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This pair of recent PWI issues showcases younger names in the big picture of pro wrestling and are among their first or only a few solo cover appearances as this mag is pretty much the only game in town for the genre when it comes to walking into a store, finding the magazine section (if they even have one) and grabbing something off the shelf. I think these are PWI and maybe overall wrestling mag first appearances for both (excluding a cover with a small inset phot0) and I'd totally grade one just because of that ... and probably will. In my case, I've taken the waiting approach and bought them cheap online so I didn't have to do an in-person hunt (that can be hit and miss) but dollars saved on that have made these end up around the same price thanks to postage.

A LOOK BACK
The Card:
Mike Trout 2021 Topps Now Turn Back the Clock (announced /2,753)
The Price:
$1.50
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This brand sold a lot of cards online in those stay-home months of the recent past, but I only bit on them a couple times direct from Topps. While parallels are holding up OK, the basic cards have often gotten cheap but I still think they're worth a look since there are big names (past and present) attached and because of their non-traditional release. (They're always going to be rarer than in-pack cards.) I don't know for sure, but I also don't remember a lot of draft-night Trout cards out there.

SOMETHING SIMPLE
The Card:
Marilyn Monroe Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (Los Cabalerros las Prefieren Rubias) Mexican postcard (circa 1950s)
The Price:
About $6
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This popped up among a number of items from a paper seller -- literally anything you can imagine that's printed they sell to collectors -- and I thought it was interesting for the price and was in good shape for the age given this film was released in 1953. I didn't see the back so that blotch might have scared me off if I had, but it's still a pretty clean item for a big name. I've never really dabbled or done much in the postcard realm, but there's a ton of that stuff out there if one has a focus.

A PAIR OF 1990s STARS
The Items:
Drew Barrymore & Sharon Stone Celebrity Photo Agency slides (lot of about 15 as there were duplicates)
The Price:
About $14
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
I picked up a boatload of slides just like these last year and, well, that initial wave of interest wore off just as fast as it came on ... but I still like the items as little time capsules. While I did a couple of big bulk celeb lots, I also did a few smaller ones and this six-pack came from an overall lot that showed these two at an event (specific info is likely on the backs). I paged these up along with a bunch of others -- just like cards -- and that specific info on each one is why I think there's potential here.

A COLORFUL INCLUSION
The Card:
Michael Harris II 2023 Topps Chrome Topps in Technicolor
The Price:
Pocket change
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This insert set is a simple one and, well, I didn't really get the appeal back when they arrived in a new Topps Chrome, so I never bit ... but at pocket change more recently I did grab this card for the defending Rookie Of The Year during his RC year. What did make me wonder here was if this was an official TechniColor tie-in as, yes, that was still a thing up until recent years ... no idea there, though.

TONS OF EARLY CAMEOS
The Items:
Assorted 11-by-17 (or so) independent wrestling event posters -- Shimmer, Dragon Gate, AAW, Mission Pro Wrestling and RISE promotions -- with appearances from many now-WWE/AEW notables
The Price:
About $125 for these (and some duplicates as parts of four separate lots/buys)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This run of larger-size indy wrestling posters is something I've had sitting in my batch of images to drop here for some time but I never really did as I figured, one, I buy too much wrestling stuff as it is and I need to spread it out, and, two, it's probably more interesting to me vs. a ton of others out there. But ... for those who are interested, see how many names  you know -- there's even some early autograph action for a few such as Scarlett Bordeaux. The Shimmer posters are a big montage image on the front for those events and then a lineup of mugshots for names in the works for the shows on the backs. Others are simpler -- and some have a lot of ink as I landed them straight from the promotions ... sometimes on the cheap. I dig the Shimmer stuff here the most as there are a ton of earlier appearances ... very worth it in my eyes.

MISSED THE MANGLED OBVIOUS
The Card:
Sean Monahan 2020-21 Upper Deck SP Game Used 2019 NHL Heritage Classic Banner Year Relics
The Price:
Pocket change
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This card was cheap -- likely since I missed the obvious rip in the foil border by the swatch -- but I thought it was a good example of a non-traditional memorabilia card that people can find with a lot going on but without a big price. These cards use banners from the events (2019 NHL Heritage Classic this time) and have huge swatches and a lot of possible color combos, too. I don't really do The Hockeys but I don't mind an oddball mem card.

ALL ABOUT CONDITION ...
The Card:
"I'm single, but ..." by Earl Moran -- 1945 Mutoscope Artist Pin-ups
The Price:
$9.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Think BenchWarmers of the 1940s -- that's what this is but in more of a postcard size as these were sold via vending machines. This is one of a group of really high-condition cards I found recently and I grabbed them all with an eye on slabbing as they're so clean I feel like I could have some easy 8-9-10 contenders on my hands. I still do have that thought, but as I said here before the one place where I was pondering grading them charges waaaaaayyy too much right now for the oversized slabs that are needed for these. (So, I'll play the waiting game on sales or bigger slab options from elsewhere among grading companies.) What was also interesting is that the artist here is Earl Moran, who sold millions of calendars back in that era and worked closely with Marilyn Monroe early in her career. (I have no idea if she's the model for any of these but one seems to be ... one I missed grabbing.) There are tons of these Mutoscope cards still around from the past and they're not that pricey, either, but elite-grade slabbed copies can do well at times in comparison to ungraded copies.

ANOTHER AFFORDABLE THROW-IN
The Mag:
Metallica: The Ultimate Guide To Heavy Metal's Greatest Band via 360Media Specials
The Price:
$2 ($13.99 cover price)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This is another mag that was a throw-in from a seller of cheap issues as I was buying a small lot and I figured that this one might be both interesting and maybe a candidate for an odd novelty slab if clean enough. Not this time with that bottom-right corner ... but just like last time I also know that there's no way I would have bought this at $13.99.

A THROWBACK PARALLEL
The Card:
Maryse 2010 Topps WWE Blue parallel (/2,010)
The Price:
Less than $1.50
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This is a throwback pick-up from a time not that long ago where a flaghip hobby box was cheap (not far from $50) and loaded with serial-numbered cards in pretty much every pack -- to the point where it hurt the value but made it a really fun rip. Blues were plentiful so they go cheap -- some still are -- but this was an oddity of a find way underpriced so I grabbed it. Why? She was a big name for a short run and this was an iconic moment (a hair flip and play to the camera) of her ring entrance routine before she went out and got stuff done as a two-time Divas champ.
