Buzz buys and busts a lot of boxes right here for Buzz Breaks, but one of my goals is to rip a little less and talk more about cardboard that I -- and you -- might like. One way to do that? Simple show and tell -- present a few pick-ups and say why they captured my attention.

So, with all that said, here are a few Buzz Buys ... and this time around it's a little heavier on football as that season is here.

AEW ORIGINALS ... AS IN ORIGINAL ARTWORK
The Cards: Gummy Arts original T206-style drawings (1/1s) for Thunder Rosa, Orange Cassidy, MJF, Powerhouse Hobbs & Sting
The Price: Less than an AEW hobby box
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: If you don't know the work of artist Mike Noren -- aka Gummy Arts -- he's been drawing athletes or memorable pop culture characters in penciled cartoon-style reproductions of past cards or on new creations for years now. You can find constantly updating feeds of his work in timely posts over on Instagram or Twitter and then sometimes those get reproduced and sold as cards in packs. In other instances, he's let the original artwork go, too. Those vanish fast and can be pricey -- actually, his packs can vanish fast, too -- and for years now I've eyed the section of his site for original art (typically $50-80 depending on subject) that made it into cards. I had never found one that was must-have for me -- or at least found a must-have one in stock -- but one day after seeing a tweet of his I did my regular ritual and checked the site to find this set of five T206/Honus Wagner homages in one slightly pricier lot but had to grab them. I had remembered seeing the Rosa online but didn't remember any of these being made into actual cards. It turns out they weren't, so the only thing that exists f0r now (at least when I recently grabbed them) are these originals. Four are top AEW stars while one is an all-time great who has worked for every company ... really a no-brainer for me and I might have paid the typical full price for one or two of these. The Rosa card in a Tijuana jersey and others in their own Wagner-style threads made me laugh, while that Cassidy is not far from spot-on even in Noren's style. Poke around here on The Buzz and you'll see more of these ... just not in 1/1 original art form.

CHASING PARALLELS ... AND IT WAS A KNOCKOUT
The Card:
Elvis Presley in Kid Galahad -- 2022 Topps Elvis Presley: The King of Rock and Roll (/537) five-card bundle ... with bonus Pink (/45) parallel
The Price:
Bundle price via Topps.com
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Elvis isn't in my musical wheelhouse -- too old for me -- but the big hits are not in doubt and neither is his ability to capture fan and collector interest all these years later. (He died 45 years ago this month.) This year-long online release has had three or four cards per week and I recently bit here for my first bundle actually because of the boxing angle. That sport is perhaps the most under-represented of them all over the years and something about this simple pose and those red gloves got me to bite on this card referring to his 1962 film of that same name. Why a bundle? Well, I figured it might (with no guarantees) get me a better shot at one of the parallels in play with these cards every week and then if I didn't land one (though I did) I figured I'd do a bundle to give myself the best shot at a slab-worthy card. Why? Something different in the boxing/non-sports/music slab collection. I landed the parallel and will probably grade it once my go-to grader starts doing non-sports stuff. I would have preferred a Red parallel to match the gloves but any parallel here was a win. (Colors are /45 Pink for the 45th anniversary, /10 Blue, /5 Red and 1/1 Gold.) I think any of them with an iconic moment or a perfect photo might be game for slabbing and flipping if that's your thing.

ONE FROM THE VAULT
The Card: Kyle Schwarber 2016 Topps Legacies of Baseball Vault Metals (/135) -- rookie-year insert card
The Price: $5.25
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This brand was a late-season high-end one that has dried up dramatically in box form so I never really saw it in-person and at its price I never really wanted to. (Too risky for me.) But this big bopper's past longballs got me looking here as this is a rookie-year insert card printed on metal. They're really cheap and relatively rare ... even now. (I picked this one up quite awhile back and it's been buried in my stash of stuff to show here.)

ALL ABOUT THE PHOTO
The Mag:
Shohei Ohtani -- Baseball Digest March/April 2022 issue
The Price:
$7 (under cover price)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This was more of a throw-in from a magazine dealer in a small lot but I liked the look here a lot with a strong photo leading the way. Why? Possible slab. The paper quality isn't that strong, though, so the spine had a couple more spots than I would have liked to see for a new magazine. I think long-running titles like this (since 1942) could have slab interest at times and they should be in lower volume than the typical sports go-to for mag slabs, Sports Illustrated. It's nothing near his rookie year, though, so the minor damage would push it deeper into my maybe-stash pile. (It's more of a no-brainer if it loos like a 9.8.)

PAST STOCKPILING ...
The Cards:
Rhea Ripley 2020 Topps WWE Fully Loaded Chair Relic Autos (/99) ... 2020 Topps Chrome WWE Refractor Autos (/199), 2020 Topps WWE NXT Bronze Autos (/99), 2021 Topps Heritage WWE Purple Autos (/50)
The Price:
Under $120 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This young WWE star is among the top few I had been buying pretty leading up to her arrival on the main roster and this is nothing new if you're a regular reader. In fact, I grabbed so many I have had to spread them out ... but this is a time where I'm throwing all the ink out there at once. Interestingly three of these are all from the same year -- technically all rookie autos -- but only one uses the logo. (And, really, it shouldn't as it's not a Rookie Card.) I think this was all I had stashed for her at the moment ... at least for ink.

YOU KNOW, BO ...
The Cards:
Bo Bichette 2017 Choice Midwest League All-Stars, 2017 Grandstand Lansing Lugnuts, 2021 Topps Allen & Ginter Framed Relics, 2021 Topps Heritage box-toppers, 2021 Topps 1989 Bowman X Keith Shore
The Price:
$3-$8
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This is a small sampling of the overall buys I have made for this second-generation MLB star as most of my grabs have actually been slabs. It's hard to pass up MiLB team sets though (lower volume made) or hits along with larger-size box-toppers and online releases.

A HUGE SURPRISE ...
The Card:
Thunder Rosa AEW Unrivaled Series 3 chase variant (/5,000)
The Price:
$22.99 ... surprise order inclusion (instead of regular version) via Ringside Collectibles site
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This self-made indy star has been with AEW for a while now but her appearances for trading cards are still to come and her first toys arrived just recently ... and I knew at some point I had to have one of her figures. I waited on this until another newer release was finally live and opted to grab both via Ringside for a reason that actually paid off big here. I hadn't ordered anything from them in years -- maybe as far back as 2006 for some autographs -- but I noticed that this toy mega-dealer actually started randomly inserting chase figures into orders as a way to surprise collectors and spark a lot of social media chatter. (After all, this is a toy that has regularly topped the $200 plateau with some sales even as high as $400 on eBay.) In the back of my mind I figured landing this one -- the blue gear figure is a lot cooler than the standard toy -- was possible but I didn't expect it ... but then it happened. This is actually the only AEW figure I own ... but I figure I'll order a couple more figures of other names and one more of Rosa after this big win sometime soon.

"ROOKIE" COVER
The Mag:
Joe Montana -- Sports Illustrated Jan. 25, 1982 ... first cover
The Price:
$9.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This is his first cover and high-grade slabbed copies of this can sell for a lot more than $10 ... but I knew that this one may not be that big of a deal with that mailing label and some of its smaller damage. I still liked it and it's definitely on a slab-later list ... just for fun. I think this is the kind of first that should have appeal in any respectable condition.

THE RARE PARALLEL
The Card:
John Belushi 2013 Panini Golden Age White Border parallel
The Price:
$6
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This comedy icon has a few card appearances through the years and this set was one that had this card as well as minis and memorabilia cards you have seen me mention here in the past. These White parallels are relatively rare in the big picture (likely under 100 copies, though I don't know if ever formally announced) and I have ripped tons of this wax in the past but barely pulled any of them, let alone one I'd want from what is a pretty big set. This one seemed under-priced, so I grabbed it.

SCHOOL TIES
The Cards:
Shaun Alexander assorted RCs, parallels, base and memorabilia cards
The Price:
$1 up to about $17.50
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This former Crimson Tide star is one I'll pick off from time to time and this is a sampling of the types of cards I'll grab. Rookie Cards on the cheap, mem cards for both college and pro time and then parallels here and there can grab me if the price is right. He has so much stuff it's easy to shop the bargain bins, though his card presence in recent years has been lean as he's been retired for a while now.

SHE'S BACK (WITH A NEWER NAME)
The Card:
Io Shirai 2019 Topps WWE NXT Autographs
The Price:
$30
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Buzz must have been feeling a little rich or in need of an auto from this Japanese star as, well, that's not the cheapest buy right now and I have pulled her autos after landing this. (This was her first WWE auto as her first NXT stuff also was in this release.) The good news is that this is a clean copy considering that this set's skinny stock shows off damage better than most others.

BEFORE THE WWE ...
The Cards:
Chris Nowinski 2002 Fleer WWE Royal Rumble & 1994-95 Roox IHSA AA March Madness '95
The Price:
$10 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This basketball card was a surprise find recently -- something I didn't even know existed -- when I found a run of these high-school cards made for a short time by a company in the 1990s called Roox. I managed to find a number of stars who had school ties for me -- and even one I interviewed in the past who I didn't ever know had cards -- but this is a basketball card of a guy who ended up in WWE for a time. His brief wrestling career ended due to concussions -- and he's now a neuroscientist who is the CEO of the Concussion Legacy Foundation and co-founder of the Boston University CTE Center, which is helping study the effects of brain injuries throughout the wider sports world. I didn't need the WWE card -- though it is his wrestling Rookie Card per se as it's his only card from that year -- but I grabbed it to present here with this oddball of a find.

A PAST PICK-UP ...
The Card:
Peyton Royce 2017 Topps WWE Kiss Card (/99)
The Price:
Under $50
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This card was dramatically cheaper than others -- Kiss Cards have really picked up steam for most names, but especially the biggest stars -- and I had been watching her stuff a little more once she left WWE and briefly was working for Impact. I casually collect ink, numbered stuff and Relics for her and the other IIconic, Billie Kay, since they were entertaining on the mic and in the ring -- and even in the online realm where they briefly brought their Aussie antics and stories from wrestling to the masses via podcasting.

TOO BIG TO GRADE ... BY A HAIR
The Mag:
Slash -- Classic Rock February 2022
The Price:
$7
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This rock icon was a name I targeted as a one I'd want to find on a mag and slab -- something to have a nice, representative book for in my stash. I had basically one rule for Slash -- something relatively clean if not new (I considered vintage stuff) and the top hat had to be there. This is a modern mag so it's pretty much 9.4/9.6/9.8 territory to start but it's not getting slabbed unless there are tweaks out there in the CGC world ... this one is a simple eighth of an inch too tall to fit in their slabs.

SOME NON-SPORTS INK ...
The Cards:
Clark Middleton 2018 Twin Peaks, Nathalie Emmanuel 2019 Game of Thrones Inflexions Valyrian Steel, Matthew John Armstrong 2016 American Horror Story: Asylum Purple-ink, Galyn Gorg 2018 Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Heroes & Villains,  2017 Women of Star Trek 50th Anniversary, Shay Lyn Veasy 2013 BenchWarmer IS Pink (/25)
The Prices:
A few bucks (grab bag BenchWarmer auto) up to about $20.
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This group of non-sports autos is a little all over the place as I wanted to see how some ink from sets looked here and there. For some non-sports brands, there isn't a lot in them that I know about enough beyond the A-list autos (not likely to pull in a single box) to justify the cost of ripping (Game of Thrones, American Horror Story). Meanwhile, a couple here died in recent months or have some oddball trivia to make me look them up ... so, affordable curiosity pick-ups. (Armstrong, for example, is the father of MLB prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong.) The BenchWarmer ink was in a repack including a few hits.

THE BANDIT ON SPORTS ILLUSTRATED?
The Mag:
Kris Kristofferson, Jill Clayburgh, Burt Reynolds (Semi-Tough) -- Sports Illustrated Nov. 7, 1977 ... first cover
The Price:
Under $10
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This football movie probably isn't the most memorable out there but seeing The Bandit on the cover of SI got me to bite and especially when this issue was relatively clean. The label isn't good in many high-rollers' eyes but I don't mind them if they're in a spot not detracting from the overall image or text. This, too, might get a slab at some point. I also grabbed it since it's one of a lower volume of covers from this past weekly (now monthly) showing celebs in a sports context.

PROMO CARDS ...
The Cards:
Jerry Rice & Steve Young 1994 Upper Deck Pro Bowl Holoview Samples
The Price:
Under $5 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
These probably look like more standard stuff and, well, they are ... but the backs look like this. I'm not sure how obscure they are but they were cheap enough I didn't bother checking -- I just grabbed them. I like the hologram stuff like this from the past but wasn't really buying those brands that had the better ones. I was dabbling more with draft picks and autograph chasers over these brands ... but I also think promo cards are safe to dabble with unless they are the kinds where boatloads of them were made.

POSTER-SIZE ROOKIES
The Card:
Deivi Garcia, Ian Anderson & Cristian Javier 2021 Topps Heritage wall art posters (/99)
The Price:
$17.50 (after volume discount)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This is the last of my deeply stashed (almost forgotten) posters and ironically it's the pitcher on the right here who might be having the best go of things ... not the one I bought this for. I like the multi-player RCs in Heritage and have a few key rookies on these posters. This one hasn't really panned out like others I have grabbed ... and, sadly, Topps may be phasing these out completely as the flagship Series 1 is the only release to get posters this year.

HALL OF FAMER
The Card:
Bud Fowler 2009 TRISTAR Obak T212 Minis
The Price:
Pocket change
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This new Hall of Famer (bio here) doesn't have much cardboard, so that's why I picked up this cheap mini parallel -- and so I could pop it up here. It's not the most-visual card but the photos for him are limited ... this same image is at that Hall of Fame link.

AMONG SOME NFL FLATS
The items:
1993 Action Packed Prototypes uncut sheet (Emmitt Smith, Barry Foster, Steve Young, Thurman Thomas, Barry Sanders & Warren Moon) & 1986 Jeno's Pizza Rolls Terry Bradshaw Action Playbook (a 1986 Fleer-style sticker album)
The Price:
Only a few bucks as part of a group lot from long ago ...
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This was in a random lot of stuff I grabbed on the cheap, making these two pieces just a couple bucks apiece ... the Action Packed sheet I thought was more interesting though you can find their sheets from time to time and it had some damage. The Bradshaw seemed like a throwaway item in the lot but it's clean and has spots for stickers to be put inside ... I only realized that once I flipped through it. It's from a food-issue set I hadn't remembered seeing back in the day. (No stickers in this one.) It actually can have eBay asking prices higher than what I paid for the lot.

END OF THE LINE
The Mag:
Ric Flair -- Pro Wrestling Illustrated April 1990
The Price:
$10
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This is one of a number of non-WWF/WWE wrestling mags with memorable names on the covers I have picked up in recent months -- stuff from the 1980s and early 1990s. PWI's mags are on pulp paper with a color cover and color poster in the middle so they don't always age well and those posters can be missing but I found a couple of dealers with cheap prices and stuff in good shape so I bit on maybe a dozen over a couple months. This is one ... and with Flair's finale I figured I'd pop this up here. It's slab-worthy but there's more demand for his older issues before ones as new as this. (Still very clean for its age, though.)

ALL-CAPS
The Card:
Philadelphia Eagles 1980s retro throwback New Era cap
The Price:
$25ish
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
They don't all have to be cards, comics and mags, right? I recently picked up a couple of throwback caps and ones I have eyed for a while ... figured I'd pop it up here just to see if you notice. I liked the throwback simplicity here as the Eagles were more my team in then vs. now. (I don't really have an NFL team beyond my fantasy squad.)

TWO OF A KIND
The Mags:
Paul "Bear" Bryant -- Sports Illustrated Nov. 23, 1981  and TIME Sept. 29, 1980
The Price:
$10 each
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This is a pair of mags I hadn't ever landed but when they're relatively clean like these and on the cheap it's hard to pass them up. The "Supercoach" cover is probably the harder to find and this copy isn't very "tight and right" like I like them but it's far cleaner than some of the absolute junk that will pop up on eBay here and there -- sometimes with higher prices. (Sports Illustrated is an easier find as there are more collectors there.) A long-term goal for me would be to have slabs of both of these among others but a lot of cleaner and more valuable mags will get slabbed first.

KURT & COURTNEY
The Card:
Nirvana (Kurt Cobain) 2009 Top Trumps Pop Stars & Courtney Love 2005 Falcon Games Picture That?
The Price:
$8 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
These two have their share of card appearances from the past -- and both of these cards come from the gaming realm of the non-sports world. Top Trumps sets are popular with slab-minded buyers and sellers despite their larger sizes since the variety of decks made is very wide. There are genre-specific decks for a lot of topics so a lot of names have early or first cards here. These are oddball enough I finally bit while doing a deep dive of some music names.

AND INTRODUCING ...
The Card:
Johnny Be Good media kit (info and seven photos)
The Price:
$9.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
The last time I saw this movie it was probably on VHS -- talking early 1990s -- and that was before I knew some of the names here ... and that's how even in 2022 one little detail surprised me. Among the credit lines in the kit? "And introducing Uma Thurman" ... that meant this 1988 film was in essence one of her first major roles. (I didn't know her before Pulp Fiction.) I didn't even notice her among the initial batch of press photos when I bought this but she's on them -- I just noticed how the volume was good and the condition was, too. (These are mint and unused ... sometimes images are stamped and used in production and have the condition to show it.) Anthony Michael Hall and Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man!) are the key players here on several photos but if you click and zoom on some of these images you should recognize others from the sports world. I'm a big fan of cheap press kits and a lot of sellers out there are, too, when they can break them up and try to get $10 or more for single photos. Is there always big value? Nah, but stuff like this is fun and interesting on the cheap.

BIG NUMBERS ...
The Cards:
Julio Jones 2011 Panini Limited Rookie Jumbo Materials Jersey Number Prime (/10) & Panini Limited Rookie Jumbo Materials Jersey Number (/49) and two 2013 Panini Limited Jumbo Materials Jersey Number (/10)
The Price:
About $30 for all
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
The two matching cards were just $4 apiece despite being limited to only 10 copies total, so that got me to bite. I grabbed the other two since they are rookie-year jumbo pieces and I picked up both to have a matching pair. Jones' NFL stock may be on the rise with his latest stop including Tom Brady, but I bought these since he'll always be a key player in the school ties part of my stash.

SWATCH FROM THE PAST ...
The Card:
Stacy Keibler 2002 Fleer WWF All Access memorabilia card
The Price:
About $5 (maybe less) in a lot buy
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This former WWE star has a relatively small total volume of cards since she's actually been retired and off the radar for more than 15 years now. Her only notable WWE appearance recently was at a Hall of Fame event to present Torrie Wilson for induction, but Keibler did appear in the Prizm WWE set to up her card volume a good bit -- so we may see her more. For memorabilia cards, she's got about two dozen cards and that's it and some of those are from her appearance in the early Donruss Americana non-sports sets. This is one of about a dozen Fleer made during her first year of cards and I found it in a bulk lot of hits I picked up many months ago. I wish I could find more like that.

TALKING T's TECHNICALITIES
The Cards:
Mr. T 2020 Topps WWE Undisputed Green (/50) and Orange (/99) -- "Rookie Card" parallels
The Price:
Under $10 (I think ... I grabbed them so long ago I can't find my info)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
If you do a deep dive of wrestling sets -- in-pack stuff in particular -- this seems odd to say but Mr. T doesn't have much cardboard with his name on it when you consider how prominent his role was in the first two WrestleMania events. He has card appearances -- but not cards of his own -- in wrestling and elsewhere. Beyond the ring, he's got an Allen & Ginter baseball card (as "Clubber Lang"), cards in The A-Team set (earliest cards for sure), oddballs reproducing WrestleMania posters and some oddball non-sports stuff ... but for a wrestling RC? He has some odd-release photo-style cards and a couple of appearances on Fleer 'Mania highlights cards (kinda RCs) but this 2020 card might be it as it's his first name-on-the nameplate, standard in-pack WWE card. Whether you agree with that or not, two other things that make these cool? The Roddy Piper and Hulk Hogan cameos. I went with the parallels together in a small lot and I like the color here a lot more than the basic card. I may slab these at some point, too, as Undisputed typically grades well.

ON THE COVER OF A ROLLING STONE ...
The Mag:
Drew Barrymore -- Rolling Stone Nov. 23, 2000
The Price:
$13.50
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Without question, some of the best pop culture photography and designs ever created for print are found within the covers of Rolling Stone, but when it comes to grading? Well, the traditional tabloid-size format is not one that allows for slabbing. (Hey, CGC ... time for some big cases!) Barrymore has a few RS covers between American and international editions for a few issues and this is one where I picked this up with a little higher price than I might normally as this copy is definitely clean. (The spine has some small issues but they're all the type that would press out and there's no other real damage.) You can find old issues of the mag but the big size and the light paper used means damage way more often than not even with magazines that sat on shelves or boxes unread. It's immensely frustrating ... so it's good in some ways that they can't yet be slabbed. And the oldest issues that could be money (and in many ways already are) are more like newspapers and that creates all kinds of collecting challenges. (Also ... mailing these larger mags is also problematic without even more damage happening ... I've been on the end of that when trying.)

INTERGALACTIC ICONS
The Cards:
Luke Skywalker 2018 Topps Star Wars Masterwork History of the Jedi & Yoda 2015 Topps Star Wars Chrome Perspectives: Jedi vs. Sith Refractor
The Price:
Under $1 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
These cheap pick-ups were for simple cards of iconic characters where they have visuals or looks that I like and would be good, cheap slabs in my mind. Of course, that was quite awhile back when grading cheaper cards like this was more realistic via PSA or BGS. Not now ... not for the cost/time involved. (Yes, these have been sitting in my queue for a while.) I think the Yoda being a Refractor still might be a fun slab but there are a lot of Star Wars cards already graded that can be found on the market, too.

A TOPPS NOW DEBUT
The Card:
Michael Harris II 2022 Topps Now five-card bundle (/2,531)
The Price:
Bundle price via Topps.com
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This rookie has been a standout -- and he's in the hunt for the National League Rookie of the Year along with one of his teammates if you ask me -- but for RCs with logos we all get to wait until next year. This year, it's just prospect cards and then any Topps Now "Call-up" cards that might arrive before season's end. Oddly, Harris has had a number of moments this year but this was his first Now card behind one for his team where he's in the photo with some teammates. I'm enough of a believer here I picked up a five-card bundle hoping it might include a parallel ... it didn't since there were a lot more buyers for this card vs. the Elvis one I mentioned earlier.

SHE'S BACK AND IN CONTROL
The Card:
Bayley 2015 Topps WWE Undisputed NXT Prospects
The Price:
$5
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This isn't a Rookie Card as this is from an insert set in the first Undisputed release, but it's a second-year card for a key name so I grabbed it. This one also has been deep in my queue of stuff for showing up here and it sat for some time since, well, she's been far off the radar to the point where I wasn't sure if she'd return. But ... she's back and the multi-time champ seems to be figuring in some new developments to come. Her first inserts are in 2014 Topps and Topps Chrome and she's in the 2016 Heritage and Divas Revolution base sets ("Rookie Cards") but the RC logo shows up on her 2017 stuff when she hit the main roster. To me, I like her 2014s and this set as key early cards and then some of the hits from 2015 and 2016.
Grab a box right here: WWE Undisputed cards (all years) are here.
