Buzz buys and busts a lot of boxes right here for Buzz Breaks, but one of my goals is to rip a little less and talk more about cardboard that I -- and you -- might like. One way to do that? Simple show and tell -- present a few pick-ups and say why they captured my attention.

So, with all that said, here are a few Buzz Buys ... and this time around it's perhaps a little heavy on wrestling (but then again so am I) and some pick-ups that have simply piled up waiting for a spot. (Call it some spring cleaning.)

A MONÉ MYSTERY ...
The Card: Sasha Banks 2021 Topps Transcendent WWE Green Autograph (/15)
The Price: Way less than most new WWE boxes ...
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: When the final Transcendent set was teased, this card with its striking image (a real photo from one of her laser show entrances) was immediately on my radar from this ultra-pricey release. However, how I was going to actually land one wasn't something I had to worry about upon arrival ... her cards simply were not packed out in the boxes and she wasn't alone. Why? There's some chatter about that, but one WWE insider believed her boxes of cards may have mistakenly left at a venue. Then some popped up on the open market, forcing Topps to go track them down legally and then get the signing done. All that is stuff I don't really care about, but I'm 100-percent confident that this is a legit auto of The Legit Boss and the card is perfectly fine. A number of the other Banks autos from this one have some steep asking prices but I ponied up to land this one not that long ago, knowing it will be a few more years before we might even see Transcendent again. And who knows what the wrestling future for Mercedes Moné might hold -- Mercedes Varnado is no longer in WWE -- or if we'll even see Sasha Banks again.

IMPRESSIVE PIECES
The Card:
Roger Maris 2016 Panini Prime Cuts Timeline Stats (/25)
The Price:
$30
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This design has a lot of empty space that I am sure doesn't work for some people -- I don't blame you -- but that unused area is for a quad-relic lineup on a version that's rarer than this. But, I'm dealing in the here not the there. This one was too rare and too cheap for me to pass up with its bat piece and a jersey piece that's a nod to the season that defined his career -- 61 homers in 1961, which broke Babe Ruth's single-season record and stood until Mark McGwire topped it (with help) in 1998. I will grab Maris stuff like this when it's affordable -- most of the time the stuff that dips isn't low-numbered.

MY NEW COLLECTION FOCUS?
The Card: Shotzi 2022 Panini Impeccable WWE Indelible Ink Holo Gold (/10)
The Price: $70
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: With my main collecting subject long-retired and coming up on a decade without cards soon, I have done a lot of dabbling ... and with WWE boxes for most brands in the Panini era just not in my wheelhouse price-wise that forces me to dabble with singles more. In this case, the photo and design for this card of this high-energy star got me to bite ... and I have grabbed a few regular versions, too. Why? I think I'm firmly collecting Shotzi ink on a heavy basis now ... you'll see a ton of her in the coming months here. I have pulled some, graded some, bought plenty and have more on the way.

HISTORY WITH A CAMEO
The Card:
Lou Gehrig 2019 Topps 150 Years of Baseball (/1,005)
The Price:
Under $3
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This online-release got me to look a number of times when it arrived regularly like Topps Now a few years ago, but as one for for memorable historic moments in MLB. But ... I never bought any until recently. This one I liked, though, for its price, the condition (I'll likely slab it as it looks beyond perfect) and, of course, the moment/subject. (I also initially thought that Mel Allen is at right -- he fits my school ties part of my collection -- but it's not.)

IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR, BROTHER ...
The Cards/Mags:
Hulk Hogan 2020 Topps WWE Undisputed, 2003 Fleer WWE Aggression Matitude Mat Relic, 2005 Lamincards WWE & WWF Magazine -- September 1990, April 1991
The Price:
About $30 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
These cards have been in the stash for some time now -- maybe as far back as 2020 when that Undisputed set dropped with that classic image -- but since it's almost 'Mania time here we are. The mat card was too cheap to not buy while that import card showing a 1985 Hogan (based on the belt design) caught my attention since it's without the Hulkamania red-and-yellow gear that he became known for. The mags are actually newer pick-ups as they are super-clean and slab-worthy and I'll totally go there if the year-long CGC logjam for graded mags ever loosens up. These are from a little later than the peak years but the visuals are very clean -- a trademark of the official WWE mags back then.

HIGH-GRADE THROWBACK BARGAIN
The Card:
Hank Aaron 2021 Topps Throwback Thursday 1961 Topps Bazooka Panels (/2,891)
The Price:
$1.25
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This #TBT card us one that revisited a past look but in new form with a mix of past and present players ... and I liked it. Like the Gehrig, this one is also super clean and I'll slab it as it's a nice card of an icon. It doesn't have to be a money card to get graded with me as long as the condition is there. I really like this one ... simple as that.

OH YEAH ...
The Card:
Steve Austin & The Rock 2004 Fleer WWE WrestleMania XX Champions and Contenders Memorabilia (Austin shirt)
The Price:
Only a few bucks as part of a bulk lot
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This card has been on the Buzz Buys tarmac a long time -- I buy too much WWE and I spread it all out -- with the Austin side of the card having a piece of one of his shirts. Which shirt? I couldn't figure it out and that's why it sat so long. (I still don't know what style it was but I know there aren't a ton of his shirts with orange.) There's also a version of this card where the Rock side has a swatch only and then a version where both have a piece ... which is a significant card if you ask me. I believe it was just their second shared memorabilia card with personal items inside and third shared mem card overall. And I'm not sure if there have been any since. The condition here isn't great but a lot of memorabilia cards didn't come out of packs cleanly back then.

AN EARLY DEBUT ...
The Card:
Cora Jade 2021 Topps WWE Women's Division Orange Autographs (/75)
The Price:
Around $70
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This auto was not joined by a basic card in this release -- her Rookie Cards are in 2002 Panini stuff -- so this preview card of sorts has a little more heat behind it as an early card for a young star who has had a lot of moments in NXT so far. The stock used in this release wasn't ideal -- 2021 was a rough year in general -- but that combined with on-card autos make cleaner copies like this one very tough finds even right out of packs. (It matters more if you grade like I do.) One thing to watch for on any ink here is trimming ... I think some out there are doing it as a cleaner card will sell for more than some showing issues. I was patient waiting for a clean one like this to show -- and it's not perfect -- but I pounced. She has a lot of pricey 2022 ink to consider, too, but a lot of them are steeper than what I paid here. This one will be Making The Grade soon.

A FAVORITE ... BUT WITH SOME FUNK?
The Card:
Nick Swisher 2006 Topps Allen & Ginter Framed Mini Relics
The Price:
$5
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This was one I grabbed months ago and I don't know where it is now but I own plenty -- maybe a couple dozen -- as the first Ginter set from Topps was epic and it was the first case I ever pre-ordered from Blowout long before Buzz was Buzz. This card was the only hit for my player that year but it's still a favorite. Why do I need to dig it out? I need to figure out what the funk is with the bottom left corner of the mini. I need to know whether it's just some funk on the case or sleeve or something inside the frame. I own enough of these it doesn't matter but you never know how cards with other elements like the plastic framing here might be aging.

A SET THAT'S GROWING ON ME ...
The Card:
Bo Bichette 2021 Topps 3-D
The Price:
$1
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
There's not a lot going on here but this second-year 3-D card for Bichette was an easy pick-up for the price as that's just a set you won't see every day ... certainly not as much as the regular version. Not much else to say on this one other than some of the 3-D emphasis can be cool on cards with better photos. (This one's not the greatest image.)

A DEBUT COVER ...
The Mag:
Mercedes Moné -- Pro Wrestling Illustrated, May 2023
The Price:
$7.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Banks is now Moné and this was I believe her first printed material for the new persona save for maybe some merchandise stickers and photos signed and sold by her new promotion. PWI is basically the only wrestling magazine left in the United States and even finding it with how newsstands at non-book stores look can be a challenge. I found three copies at a big-box store and grabbed one, though it's not really in slab-worthy condition ... if they were clean enough I might have done a second one with an eye on slabbing. (She doesn't have a lot of solo magazine covers as WWE shelved its publishing arm just as she was getting started.) Magazine circulations now and in recent years/decades are likely a sliver of the prime years, too, so once stuff vanishes finding clean copies could be a challenge.

ODDITY ADDS AUTHENTICITY?
The Items:
John Johnson autographed 1973-74 Topps card & Seattle SuperSonics promotional photo
The Price:
About 30 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Both of these are in-person autos -- and it's admittedly not much of a sig -- but with school ties I'll ponder anything here. The Topps creation is a third-year card -- with an autograph signed upside down just like a Rookie Card I have -- while the photo is from 2001-08 based on that newer Sonics logo. I'd prefer full-name sigs -- he signed them and I own some -- but what's out there in the world is all there is now as he died back in 2016. He was the first pick -- seventh overall -- of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the 1970 NBA Draft ... their first player other than expansion draft picks.

A THROWBACK TALE I NEVER TOLD ...
The Cards:
2019 Topps Garbage Pail Kids WWE set (13 stickers -- Andre The Giant, Becky Lynch, John Cena, Randy Savage, Mick Foley, The Miz, Maryse, Ric Flair, Ronda Rousey, Seth Rollins, Steve Austin, The Rock, Ultimate Warrior, Undertaker)
The Price:
Whatever Topps charged back in the day ...
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This one was an immediate buy -- and I bought more than one set -- but when they arrived they had dramatically bad diamond cuts that were a serious bummer. (Why? Not only was I a fan but I wanted to slab.) I opted to do a return/exchange and, well, that did happen but it took more than a year to get replacements and that seemed odd since these were printed to order like Topps Now and not in packs. These are a tad better but one set has some warping (not bent but perhaps not far off ... since they were stickers they are flexible) and the other was fine. All of that really dampened my interest here though the creations themselves are legit and impressive ... and there should have been more.

TWO OF A GRIND ...
The Items:
Rose McGowan in Grindhouse (Planet Terror) autographed photo & Wizard, May 2007 (variant cover)
The Price:
About $60
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Generally speaking, I collect stuff related to Quentin Tarantino movies and upon some of my deep dives looking for stuff I learned that this Wizard cover existed but it wasn't the main cover -- the death of That Captain America Guy mentioned up top got the main ride. Grindhouse was a 2007 double-feature with Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror the first part and Death Proof being Tarantino's second half -- two odes to simple low-rent horror movies of the 1970s. A few stars were in both and McGowan was one of them. The autograph isn't authenticated, but I was comfortable with it having seen other sigs (and she did the comic/celebrity show circuit for a time before more recent controversies). My interest in slabbing mags had me looking for all kinds of stuff from the 1990s/2000s for names who might not have cards or favorites like these movies. The costume here is from the film's opening credits where she's a dancer who quits her job before being attacked and has a leg eaten by chemically-caused zombies and then it's replaced with a machine gun when a group tries to save the world. Or something. It's iconic, weird, goofy ... some of the reasons people liked this one.

REMEMBER THAT ONE PLAY?
The Cards:
Marcus Maye 2017 Panini Contenders Optic Red Rookie Ticket Autographs (/75) & 2017 Panini Contenders Championship Ticket Rookie Variation Autographs (/49)
The Price:
Almost $20 total (¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This was a pair of impulse buys after a blooper-style play that wasn't -- it was impressive back in 2020. The "butt interception" was right up there with the "butt fumble" for a short time but by the time I got these in-hand I didn't really want to show them off as, well, the interest had passed ... so they sat. With my spring cleaning, here they are.

MINOR ISSUES ... GOOD BARGAIN?
The Comic:
Looney Tunes No. 197 (1958)
The Price:
$9.99
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This more recent find was one that I saw out there for a while but didn't grab until I kept seeing it pop up in searches. Did I need it? No, but other than the bottom-right line up the edge and spot on the bottom, this book is really clean for a comic book from 1958. I might slab it, too, but ultimately it's nice for its age and then a good showcase of two iconic characters.

WENT ON A RETRO KICK ...
The Mags & Cards:
Claudia Cardinale 1960s appearances on Filmski Svet magazine (Yugoslavia) & 1960s School of Dancing Joy Amsterdam English/German Blue Back cards
The Price:
Less than a box of new Topps cards (and that included the shipping)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This run of a vintage Yugoslavian film magazine is really almost a random pick-up -- I just happened upon a run of "ex-yu" (ex-Yugoslavia) magazines that were heavy on pop culture (I believe Filmski Svet means "world film") from an international dealer on eBay. Names like Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe (a lot more pricey),  Sidney Poitier and others were common on covers and a lot of these seem like really obscure and affordable items with a very distinct vintage feel -- straight out of the era. (Heck, that country no longer exists.) Cardinale is an iconic star of that era but probably more on the international front but where I know her from is the Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western Once Upon a Time in the West where she starred along with Henry Fonda, Jason Robards and Charles Bronson. It's honored in the United States National Film Registry as being among the greats in its genre. I'm not quite the film buff of Tarantino but that's what led me there -- I grabbed these on a whim since they were cheap and she (and others) had a lot of other cover appearances on this title where I could dabble more if it struck me. (Probably not ... but the oldschool vibes here with these are strong.)

SOME TRIVIA ...
The Card:
Art Howe 1976 SSPC ... pre-Rookie Card
The Price:
$1
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
Something got me looking at the cards from this set and this one jumped out at me as I just didn't remember him with the Pirates -- and that's because his Rookie Card isn't until 1978 Topps. This and a team-issue card are apparently his only Pirates creations and he played 92 games over two seasons in Pittsburgh before he became an Astros guy on the field and later as its manager. Since these were not issued in packs and actually weren't authorized MLB creations, they weren't considered to be RCs back in the day ... but those things just make this set an interesting one to me. The prices are pretty good on bigger names, too.)

A STRIKING STRIKER
The Cards:
Penta El Zero M 2018 All In, 2018 PCW Ultra, 2021 Upper Deck AEW All Elite Wrestling Gold Memorabila 2021 Upper Deck AEW All Elite Wrestling Canvas (with Rey Fenix)
The Price:
About $15 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This AEW star is a veteran in the ring since 2007 in Mexico and independent promotions but his arrival in AEW is how I found him (don't have time to watch everything), though I did know his name from quick online clips here and there. His distinct look and matches with his brother always grab my attention and these cards are also a product of that -- a new copy from the iconic All In set (I have it stashed away from long ago), a newer-to-me indy card and then some AEW stuff. I can't collect it all but I'll grab stuff when it strikes me.

MORE FROM A BULK LOT ...
The Lobby Cards:
Dogma lobby card singles from parts of three sets (appearances by Salma Hayek, Matt Damon, Chris Rock, Alanis Morrissette, Alan Rickman, Ben Affleck and Jason Mewes)
The Price:
Only a few bucks total as part of a group lot
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
These also came from a bulk lot where the previous owner broke up sets and built portfolios of specific stars ... they did the work for me and I picked off a lot of three or four names if I remember correctly. (This is some spring cleaning here, too. You can see more if you poke around here in the archives.) The collection was very deep for Hayek, Halle Berry and then some Tarantino/Rodriguez films. I like lobby cards as they can be found on the cheap (at times) and are card-like but they do create some storage challenges with various sizes and stock types.

THREE OF A KIND ...
The Cards:
Nick Swisher 2005 Playoff Prestige Red foil (/25), Xtra Bases Red (/150), Xtra Bases Black (/25)
The Price:
About $15 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
My player's earlier cards appeared in sets from a few companies -- so much stuff I didn't rip into packs of a lot of it back then -- and at that time I didn't really sweat parallels that hard. I'm sure I already had these but the rarer stuff and cards like these in 2004 and 2005 sets always get me to look even if they aren't Rookie Cards. (That's 2002 Bowman Draft.)

A NOD TO ANOTHER SHOW ...
The Cards:
Alli Maki 2021 Marvel Cloak & Dagger Photo Variant Autograph (/50) & 2021 Marvel Cloak & Dagger Dagger Autographs
The Price:
$13 for the variant, about $2 for the rest
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
These pick-ups were from about two years ago now -- the prices are still about the same or lower -- but the show isn't even why I grabbed them. (The series on a memorable Marvel duo lasted only two seasons and I actually didn't see any of it.) But where I did know her from was a TBS comedy called Wrecked, which was a Lost parody that was pretty over the top and on heavy rotation on TBS. (Another fun fact? The infamous Joyce Kim on Big Bang Theory ... that's her, too.) I picked these up since they were really cheap for the regular ones and they are her only autographed cards then and still now. She's also had a boatload of credits since and I figured maybe there was future potential here.

THE ONLY PROPER PARALLEL COLOR
The Card:
Mandy Rose & Goldust 2018 Topps WWE Women's Division Mixed Match Challenge Gold (/10)
The Price:
Under $9
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
There's only one color of parallel that's appropriate here for the pairing of WWE icon Goldust and "The Golden Goddess" in this series of matches. I didn't watch a lot of it -- it was a Facebook thing if I remember correctly -- but when I saw this rare card at this lower price I had to bite. What I did see from this team (it may have only been on Instagram) was funny, too, so that helped make this one a cool card to me.

SCOUTNG THE CHAMP
The Card:
Deonna Purrazzo 2019 Topps WWE Undisputed Orange (/99) and 2017 Topps NXT Blue (/50) & Silver (/25) Autographs
The Price:
Under $25 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This former NXT newcomer has been in the game for a decade now but was only in NXT for a short time -- fewer than 20 matches -- before she was released. After that, she showed up in Impact and has been their champ and in storylines with some notable names. In this case, these were pick-ups from late in her WWE time or early in Impact as they were affordable for the rarer volumes and pretty clean for a couple of autographed cards from a release with notoriously chippy stock and ironically, the Blue cost me more than the Silver. These are some of her first cards other than some 2017 Stardom stuff from Japan.

MAKE THE MATH MAKE SENSE ...
The Items:
Shotzi WWE Shop/Fanatics photo plaque & 2023 NXT Vengeance Day 11-by-14 poster/photo
The Price:
About $27 shipped after various discounts and FanCash
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
I grabbed this pair of more general fan "commemorative" items since WWE Shop had a combination of sale prices and then FanCash discounts that made them work for me. The poster/photo arrived top-loaded for the price of shipping ... like $8. (Meanwhile, photo top-loaders can cost more than a few bucks.) The plaque was more of a grab from last year out of curiosity to see if they were what I expected -- they are literally wood with a vinyl sticker attached. For about $19 shipped (and a wood plaque isn't light), I bit ... but only since it was Shotzi. I definitely will wait until they tweak the approach on those types of things before I ponder more stuff like the plaque. (It's been in its shipping box since arrival ... not my most-interesting buy.)

GOT IT COVERED ...
The Card:
Derek Jeter & Alex Rodriguez 1997 Fleer Sports Illustrated
The Price:
$2
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
My 2022 push for magazines for possible grading didn't hit this title that often -- I'll let the regulars keep on with SI -- but it did get me looking back at some of the card sets that Fleer made with magazine covers as cards. This one looked clean enough -- and the soft stock with high gloss wasn't always friendly -- to grade at some point.

The Cards:
Billy Butler 2007 USA Baseball Bound for Beijing Autographs Red Ink (/50), David Lyon 2011 Topps USA Baseball Red Autographs (/99), Drew Stubbs 2007 USA Baseball Alumni Patches (/20)
The Price:
Under $10 total
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This trio of USA Baseball pick-ups is obvious and totally not. The two rarer cards are from a release that I busted multiple cases of and both are former MLB players on cards that were tougher pulls from a year that delivered generously. The Lyon card? I initially had no idea of why I bought it ... but I think he followed me on Twitter so that got me looking. Maybe.

JUMP WHEN THEY SURFACE ...
The Program:
Ric Flair & Dusty Rhodes 1986 NWA wrestling program
The Price:
$28
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This isn't the meatiest of items on the inside, but the stars on the front make it matter as this is some prime NWA history right there in a strong era. Why did I grab it? A small group of these popped up from an original maker or somebody who got them from the original source and the prices on most were pretty good since they had a number of them. This was pricier than others I picked up in a small lot -- I probably held off on posting it, waiting to put it with some other Flair items.

OFF THE RADAR?
The Card:
Barbie Ferreira 2021 Parkside Levi's 501 Day Originals
The Price:
$7
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
I picked this up as a sampler card from this set just so I could pop it up here. What is it? A card rom a somewhat obscure -- or at least obscure to me -- set made by Parkside cards (perhaps best known for their soccer cards) that was released in packs with Levi's jeans as a bonus with purchase. There were just eight cards in the set and then some names had rare autographs and memorabilia card versions, too. The star power in the set meant some pricey cards. Among them? Tennis star Naomi Osaka, soccer star Marcus Rashford, basketball star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, model Hailey Bieber, model Emma Chamberlain and entertainer Jaden Smith. Ferreira is perhaps best-known for her role on HBO's Euphoria. A checklist shows all seven of them and there are also apparently Blue (/10) parallels that also were released. The biggest names' base cards have asking prices of $100 or more in some instances.

WAY BEFORE WWE
The Card:
Mia Yim 2013 BBM True Heart -- International Rookie Card
The Price:
$12
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
This wrestling veteran has worked almost everywhere since 2009 but for the most part hadn't had any cardboard until she arrived in WWE sets in 2019. Well before that, though, she had this BBM card after a stint in Japan. Would I call this a Rookie Card? Given the amount of time between the sets? Maybe.

ALL THAT COLOR ... BUT NO CRIMSON
The Card:
Sabu 2007 Topps Heritage WWE Chrome Refractors -- "Rookie Card" parallel
The Price:
$20
Why it’s Buzz-worthy:
"The Homicidal, Suicidal, Genocidal, Death–Defying Maniac" known as Sabu doesn't have a lot of WWE cards from the revival of ECW but I bit on this Refractor of his first and only Topps Chrome WWE card easily based on that price. I've seen higher asking prices simply for the base card. Like Yim, he has a BBM card from years before these and some non-pack ECW creations, too, but not a boatload of cards in general. That helps prices on the cooler stuff like this.
