Buzz-worthy Bargain Break: Five April Showers deals to grab

If you hadn't noticed, there are a number of boxes with discounted prices right now right here as BlowoutCards.com has started its April Showers sales that will add new stuff every week.

The first batch is here and many of the discounts were dramatic enough that Buzz had to sit down and ponder the possibilities in many of the boxes and cases -- and here are five options that caught this collector’s eye.

2017 Panini Donruss Optic NFL fat pack
Want to chase Patrick Mahomes Rookie Cards on the cheap but with the potential for plenty more like other key RCs and parallels? This might be the best place to look right now as these packs are slashed to a fraction of their original price. Lime parallels are only found in these packs and a raw Mahomes can sell for a solid amount while a PSA 10 recently sold for more than $200. There are, of course, standard versions and Prizms in this one as well as inserts -- I'll be ordering a max of 20 packs just for fun and look for a Buzz Break of this one here soon because the price is great for the potential to be found. (And Mahomes is far from alone as far as notables here are concerned.)

2016-17 Panini Donruss Optic NBA hanger pack
I'll be the first to tell you that I didn't have the best luck with some of these that I bought back when they arrived as there are only a dozen cards in a pack but there is a key ... Ben Simmons Rookie Cards and parallels. Like the Mahomes scenario, these can be a money-maker if you land the key rookie in a rarer shade. Not all shades can be found in this format, of course, but with the price dropped pretty well it might be time to buy in bulk for a better shot. Here's a sample of one past box I busted -- they are somewhat consistent with their mix of inserts and parallels. It all just comes down to who you get.

2010 Topps UFC Main Event retail 100-pack lot
Ever wanted to sit down and just rip a bunch of packs without breaking the bank? This is that kind of break and one where you do have some potential for hits (they were originally seeded one per box). The base set is a relatively meaty 150 cards while inserts include fight posters, propaganda poster artwork cards, Top 10 Fights of 2009 and more. I won't dwell on the hits too much because I'm not 100-percent sure what did or didn't make it into retail here, but this release is the home of one of the cooler cards made on that front in the past. What are they? Cage Relics that have a piece of the Octagon embedded into them.

2013-14 Panini Rookie Anthology NHL hobby box
Buzz doesn't do much hockey -- one square fall on roller skates derailed that potential career long, long ago -- but this is a modestly priced box that guarantees a good volume of hits and a ton of variety. This one is like Chronicles baseball in that it takes several brands and puts them all into one place -- with five hits and at least three of them are autographs. Even better here? The focus on rookies. For a casual breaker or a beginner on the ice this can be a fun break without spending a ton.

Women of Star Trek 50th Anniversary Archive Box
What's an Archive Box? It's a box that includes close to everything in a product that's a bonus for dealers or high-rollers who bought 18 cases of the product from Rittenhouse Archives. This one includes the 100-card base set, the 50-plus autographs in the release, the insert sets and promo cards, a six-case incentive auto of Nichelle Nichols, a Teri Garr auto only found in these boxes, a Seven of Nine costume card only in these boxes and a set of four printing plates for one of the cards in this release. Among the notable signers in the set who are all guaranteed here? Vanessa Williams, Whoopi Goldberg, Marina Sirtis, Jeri Ryan, Yvonne Craig, Virginia Madsen, Lori Petty and many more. This is a high-roller kind of box that delivers good break-up value but without a big high-roller price.
