Buzz-worthy Bargain Breaks: 2013 and 2015 USA Baseball sets

If you're slacking with your bargain-hunting buys for a collector who is prospect-minded, there's an easy option that can hit high points in the here and now as well as the future.

It's the USA Baseball boxed set.

They're stacked with close to 10 hits in many instances along with other inserts and basic cards that include several playing levels of the organization -- one that's helped propel top prep and college names onto cardboard for the first time sometimes years before their arrivals. And all without breaking the bank.

For example, the Andrew Vaughn card you see up top? It's from the 2013 USA Baseball set back when he was a member of the 15U National Team. Since that time, he's emerged as a star for the Cal Golden Bears and won the Golden Spikes Award as the nation's top player as a sophomore when he hit .414 with 23 homers and 60 RBI. That followed a Pac-12 Freshman of the Year season, and both of those campaigns have him as a top-three potential draft pick in the 2019 MLB Draft. It's not a deluxe patch card or anything, but it can pay for nearly all of a set depending on the sale price. And he's not alone as there are nine hits per box -- and some could undoubtedly include him twice. Others of note in the set alongside him include Kyle Schwarber, Matt Chapman, Brady Aiken, Justus Sheffield, Alex Bregman and Trea Turner -- names you should know -- along with other prospects in the pipeline.

Another set that can deliver without breaking the bank is the 2015 USA Baseball release, which has early cardboard for guys like Hunter Greene (above), Triston Casas, Blake Rutherford, Bryson Brigman, A.J. Puk and Brendan McKay to name a few. Greene might still be the biggest name in this one, despite his injury issues last season, but there are plenty of guys who could get their shot and establish themselves more on hobby radars when playing time (and MLB Draft time) nears.

These sets also include nine hits every time and the lineup includes players on the 14U National Team -- so there's plenty of later potential here -- while USA Baseball sets in general can include some advanced cards with patches, multi-auto cards and other things not as easily done elsewhere.
