BuzzMania 7: Opening With ... NXT Sealed Case Chaos! (Hour 1)

The biggest weekend in pro wrestling is here with WrestleMania 40 set for this Saturday and Sunday from Philadelphia. We'll make today a big one for wrestling collectors right here on The Buzz with #BuzzMania7, a marathon of WWE wax box/pack breaks all day long.

This one is a sometimes erratic one when it comes to blasters, but I wouldn't have it any other way when the price is this right. What makes it erratic? The hits don't seem as regular in this format -- cases can run hot or cold -- but it's a release so packed with young stars on real RCs that cheap stockpiling of this one is fun. And this case? It brought some weird to it, too ... so weird that this one opens the show this year.

My Take Before I Broke This: This one got dirt cheap around Black Friday and, yes, I bit on a few cases here because the Rookie Card crop is beyond stacked with first cards for an influx of NXT and NXT UK names that hadn't made cardboard thanks to card-maker delays and the flipping of the switch to NXT 2.0. This is a traditional cardboard release and it's one with issues if you're grading (back surfaces and edges can be messy here) but if you're a collector and one who rips on the cheap ... it's a win at cheaper prices for this format. Unlike hobby boxes, which have an auto and a memorabilia card as well as numbered parallels in every box, this format is a little dryer with hits coming more erratically -- I don't know how many should drop here with all of my cases having been different -- and numbered cards only a handful of times per case ... or less. At full price, this one is too risky, despite all the RCs, but at a slasher price this one is fun to me and still has potential. I'll rip more.

Who Won The Battle? This one was a win but not without oddities and a slight bummer ... but it still delivered well on all fronts. The winner here? Rookie Cards, and sadly this one didn't get a 2023 counterpart for those collecting on a budget. The Cora Jade numbered card was in my first box -- a big card among the rookies -- but the bottom right corner was absolutely mangled ... and this case was wonky with that being the only numbered card. Atop that, I had one pack where it was overloaded and mangled -- extra cards and everything severely bent up in one pack but you couldn't tell from the outside -- and that made me think that some of the erratic collation (this one was worse than normal in some ways, particularly on parallels) was perhaps in part reflective of an assembly line botch that got cleaned up. Could that have affected everything here? Maybe ... but it still delivered better than my other cases for sure and those no-foils are a really unique find. I just wish I had landed Stratton there as I landed a number of the notables among the 35.

The Top Rookies: Stratton, Hayes, Breakker ... all are strong ones found here and they aren't alone. Stratton is the top RC if you ask me but this rainbow of parallels for Cora Jade was a fun find with the extra no-name in there. Had the numbered card been clean, I'd grade it and that card would have left me happy about this one no matter what (at a discounted price).

Card That Stole The Show: The Carmelo Hayes auto is a very solid find here ... and it's clean, too. The on-card autos in this one show their handling on the backs -- some can be dirty on edges and corners -- but this one is solid. He's easily a top name of the future -- he's in the main event of the NXT show this weekend -- and the greens are only found here across the board. I suspect the volume of green autos (an unknown) may not be as high as people think and could be tougher finds over time vs. stuff found in hobby boxes ... though those boxes are now tough finds in general, too, vs. where they had been.

Case Grade: A+ ... Two strong autos, three solid mem cards, a boatload of RCs and same names in parallels as well as the oddity of a bunch of missing-foil cards.
Fun Grade: A ... See above.

The Bottom Line: They don't all deliver like this one but it was the perfect break for an opening hour today with some surprises, some star power, plenty of RCs and ... all of it on the cheap.
