Buzz's Pick Six: 2019 Donruss baseball cards

Have you seen the latest cool cards from a new release? With so many options for collectors of all kinds arriving every week it's possible you haven't. That's where Buzz comes in -- well at least on one brand you'll see here from time to time in what we're calling Buzz's Pick Six. Simply put, here are six cards from a new arrival that seemed interesting to this collector and we think they might interest you, too.

A CONTINUING LEGACY
The Card: The San Diego Chicken (aka Ted Giannoulas) 2019 Donruss autographed memorabilia card (/85)
The Price: $99.99 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This fine feathered friend of baseball has had a place in Donruss packs since the early 1980s and this new set includes the latest in fowl ballcards. This particular six-piece looks to include a couple wings, a thigh and three jersey swatches plus the autograph from the man behind the beak, who has been signing meticulously for years despite having one of the longest names in cardboard history. I grabbed one of his memorabilia cards in recent years but these are always worth a look.

RECOLLECTION COLLECTION
The Card: Ichiro Suzuki 2019 Donruss Recollection Collection 2004 Donruss Studio autograph (/12)
The Price: $299.95 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This is one of many buyback cards found in the new Donruss packs and these stamped cards are from a number of past brands with top names involved. This particular card seems like a little closer to the bargain side vs. overpriced and that's not the case with some of the eBay listings that include ink from guys like Ken Griffey Jr., Derek Jeter, Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson, Rod Carew, Mark McGwire, Vladimir Guerrero and even some younger stars like Aaron Judge. If you land one of these kinds of cards in a box, you might be out very ahead considering Donruss is more of a bargain-priced box.

NO WAITING HERE
The Card: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. 2019 Donruss Rated Prospect Material Signatures
The Price: $125 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: The top prospect in MLB is waiting on the call to Toronto and that means you're left waiting for his presence in anything non-Bowman until that time when it comes to MLB cardboard. Panini America can use prospects in insert sets, so that means you can find him in Donruss and this is one of 25 cards he has in the release. Ten of those are certified autos and almost all of them are serial-numbered, but this is one of those exceptions. The swatch here is admittedly huge -- and funky in its placement -- but if you want to grab some Vlad at lower prices than you might find elsewhere this is a brand to consider.

PLENTY OF FUN
The Cards: Ronald Acuña Jr. 2019 Donruss Action All-Stars and Elite Series inserts (/999)
The Price: $9.99 Buy-It-Now for this lot
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This brand's base set design is admittedly not one of my favorites, but there are a ton of inserts to be found here with some of them having distinct nods to the 1980s and 1990s but with cleaner printing and other added touches you just didn't get then. Acuña has nearly 80 different cards in this release and cards like these even have parallels where there's colorful foil added into the mix. Keying in on names you like and picking off their various inserts in this one can be done without breaking the bank. (Also, Panini needs to make sure that the tilde makes the cut for this guy's very important name.)

PINK PARALLELS
The Card: Buster Posey 2019 Donruss Franchise Futures Pink Firework parallel 
The Price: $11 after five bids (roughly two days remaining)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: These inserts are quite flashy on their own, but adding pink to the foil color make these and other cards pop even more. Target Mega Boxes offer a pink auto in every box and the hue is a retail-only find on all of the insert sets. It's a simple change that stands out from others.

ROOKIE OR LEGEND?
The Card: Domingo Ayala 2019 Donruss Sensational Signatures Red autograph (/25)
The Price: $145.88 Buy-It-Now
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: "Game attendance goes up 237 percent in games that Domingo Ayala is playing. After discovering this statistic, Domingo now plays for three different teams. They schedule their games so he can play in the morning, afternoon and evening. He's also the only player to ever hit for the home run cycle -- a solo, two-run, three-run and grand slam. And he's done it four times." That's what the back of this card says so it must be true. On the back of his base card?  There we learn that he spent eight days down on the farm on a rehab assignment and at season's end he led the minors in doubles, home runs and RBI -- but he couldn't win the Triple Crown because he didn't have enough at-bats to take the batting title.
