Cardboard History: Thanksgiving on cards thanks to Upper Deck

We all know that Black Friday is a holiday of sorts in the hobby, but there's a completely official one to come between now and then.

And its that piece history is documented on a past baseball card from Upper Deck.

Why? Well, not that long ago we started seeing all kinds of weird things on cards.

It's card No. 188 in the 2009 Upper Deck A Piece of History set -- a card in the Historical Moments subset.

The lesson? "Thanksgiving becomes holiday" and it's documented on the back of the card:

"With the nation in the midst of the Civil War, President Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday on Oct. 3, 1863, saying in part, 'I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next as a day of thanksgiving and praise.'"
