Year Three will have a new lineup and a new approach.

That's Year Three of the Project from Topps -- Project100 this year to be formal about it -- and this year it's going to be "seasonal" with lineups of five artists releasing cards before it moves onto another. It launches at noon tomorrow.

"The collision of baseball cards and art is here to stay," read the formal announcement from the company. "Topps is handing over the creative reigns to 20 world-class artists to create official MLB Topps trading cards. Topps Project100 invites fans to collect a 100-card checklist that will be released on Topps.com across spring, summer, fall and winter seasons (25 cards per season). We've carefully built Project100 to offer collectors our most-focused and premium art project to date. Stunning foil technology will take artwork to new heights, limited quantities will leave fans wanting more and a carefully curated checklist will offer a balanced variety of Baseball's biggest names."

Minor league baseball cards from the past can include some weird stuff ... stuff you wouldn't imagine to be found on a baseball card. Here are some some new oddities in this latest edition of MiLB Madness. 

REMEMBER THIS ONE?
The Card: Brian Span (with Whitney Houston ... sort of) 1989 Sport Pro Spokane Indians #15
The Buzz On This One: If you're a regular Buzz reader, then you may remember my deep dive into this epic MiLB team set that, well, showcases how the team went to the mall to make their annual card set. No, really, each player and some coaches plugged various stores at the mall with some having funnier cards than others. Span went to DJ’s Sound City, a chain described as "a fixture in Spokane's Music Market for almost 20 years" and made one of the weirdest cards ever made. (See the rest of them at that link.) I had the chance to pick up two more of these and I did ... and you can bet I'll probably grade one -- it's just too comical not to.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has a new team for years to come.

The 23-year-old Toronto Blue Jays star who hit 48 homers last season signed a "long-term historic partnership" with Topps that was revealed on Tuesday.

"Topps has become synonymous with baseball after over 70 years of commemorating record-breaking moments and iconic players through our rich heritage of trading cards," said David Leiner, Topps VP and GM of Global Sports & Entertainment. "This new partnership with Vlad is an extension of our dynamic product portfolio, showcasing players’ talents and personalities in compelling and innovative ways. SOMETHING SIMPLE ... 
The Card: Shaun Alexander 2000 EX NFL Debut Postmarks
The Price: $7.75
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This is a throwback leading off because I have a simple question to present with it ... have we seen anything like this recently? As you can see, this card has a stamp affixed to a card with a postmark applied on the day of his NFL debut, which was in Miami. It's a simple kind of non-traditional card -- I don't think I'd call it a hit -- but something like this could mix things up a bit. Sure, there's a little extra work involved here but ... something different in packs that can be done for pocket change wouldn't hurt, right?
