Panini Instant cards will be coming soon for NASCAR collectors.

The company added a section for 2016-17 Panini Instant NASCAR cards to its real-time trading card section of its website this week, leaving open the question of just how soon we'll see even more racing cardboard.  The Sprint Cup Chase for the Cup begins on Sept. 18 at Chicagoland Speedway, which might make for a logical starting point -- however, it's likely that it could come sooner.

The standard cards are made to order and there are several numbered parallels per card -- and all of them are only available for 24 hours via Panini's website.

Bryan Clauson raced on many circuits during his career -- a resume that included multiple appearances in the Indy 500, a couple seasons in NASCAR's Nationwide (now Xfinity) Series, two season titles in the USAC sprint car series and three season championships in USAC midget series, where was the defending champ this year.

He was a regular on dirt tracks and that's where he suffered injuries in a race and died on Sunday night at age 27.

"This is truly one of the darkest days in the 60-year history of the United States Auto Club," USAC CEO Kevin Miller told USA Today. "Not only have we lost one of our greatest USAC champions, we've lost a true ambassador for all of motor sports."

Today's the day that Panini America's first NASCAR product arrives in the form of 2016 Panini Prizm, and one of the biggest newcomers in that set is Chase Elliott, who's the leading candidate for the Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year award.

Today's also the day for the opening of the National Sports Collectors Convention in Atlantic City, N.J., too.

And how do those two things cross paths? Elliott will be one of the guests at Panini's VIP Party on Saturday night -- he's the first guest confirmed by the company.

Mark Warsop has confirmed NASCAR cards are coming from the company this year. Four products are planned -- Prizm, Torque, Certified and National Treasures. ... FIFA Flawless cards will be coming as well. ... The company noted a substantial increase in NBA sales this year. ... It was 15 years ago today that the NASCAR world changed dramatically as its biggest star died during the last lap of its biggest race.

Dale Earnhardt's final Daytona 500 was one that put the spotlight of both the media and collectors on the racing ranks like never before as The Intimidator's life and his famous No. 3 Chevy were celebrated for all they had accomplished.

NASCAR Xfinity Series champion Chris Buescher may have spoiled an upcoming surprise for racing fans on Tuesday when he posted an image of autograph stickers to his Instagram account.

The 58th running of the Daytona 500 is a week away and, while NASCAR collectors won't have new trading cards to commemorate their new season, there are already plenty of diecasts available and more on the way.

Rookie Chase Elliott won the pole for the race on Sunday -- he's the youngest driver to ever take that honor -- and he's one of some new faces in new cars as he's behind the No. 24 Chevy previously run by four-time champ Jeff Gordon.  

Elliott is the 20-year-old son of former Cup champion Bill Elliott and had 53 top-10 finishes in 66 Xfinity Series races -- four of those wins -- before making the jump to NASCAR's top level.

If you've watched any NFL games this season, you've likely heard the word "concussion" many times as the league has implemented new tests on players to help prevent future problems by assessing the here and now immediately following a hard hit.

On Christmas Day, a film about the issue of concussions in football called Concussion opens in theaters. You've probably seen the commercials for the film during NFL games.

Will Smith stars as Dr. Bennet Omalu, who discovered the degenerative brain disease called chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE. It's a real-life issue that has affected more than 80 former players -- many you've seen on football cards and might have collected. The movie is an important one and Sports Illustrated has Smith on its cover this week to discuss the movie.

Jeff Gordon's final lap could end up being one of his biggest ones as he's one of the final four drivers in NASCAR's Chase for the Cup -- a winner-take-all playoff format that will make the final race of the season dictate the season's champion.

It's also the final race of Gordon's career, which already has four Cup wins and 93 race victories  in 24 seasons at that level -- marks that place him among NASCAR's elite no matter what happens today.
