Collecting Game-used: A few pitches away from the big one

Sometimes, you can still get a surprise from the bargain bin.

Is that the case with this one this time? Perhaps ... but it's not something that will add much value per se. It is, however, something that could make a simple item like a game-used baseball seem a little more interesting than, say, the scuffs or dirt that pop up on them from time to time.

THE BASICS ...
Game-used ball (MLB Authenticated): Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies, Sept. 12, 2019

The matchup: Phillies SP Drew Smyly vs. Braves LF Adam Duvall
The result: Two pitches -- Ball 1 and Strike 1 -- during a seven-pitch AB in fourth that ended with a home run

What's Buzz-worthy: This one is pretty deep into my past stash of dirt-cheap gamers from Philly (couldn't pass at $10 a pop!) and it's one that still had a bit of a surprise attached to it beyond the authentication info. This ball is simple -- a pitch-and-catch fastball between Drew Smyly and Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto for Ball 1 and then a fastball fouled back to the netting for Strike 1 as part of an Adam Duvall at-bat. The surprise? That at-bat ended not long after this one with a two-run homer for the visitors as part of a 9-5 loss to the Phillies. Does that add value here? Probably not ... and it's not like this is a biggie with any of the names attached ... but they're all still in The Show and Duvall was an All-Star, while Realmuto is an All-Star, Silver Slugger and Gold Glover, too.
