Collecting Game-used: From card back to UFC 158's main event

Normally, this Collecting Game-used series spotlights a recent find of mine of the complete-item variety -- a pieces of equipment matched to a specific moment from a game where I take you beyond the authentication to see precisely when it was used via photo-matching.

This is not that time -- we're going from card swatch to action.

The Topps ring mat Relic you see above shows Georges St-Pierre and is from UFC 158 and is a jumbo piece with three distinct stripes of color that seem like they aren't the norm -- and a simple image search showed me where it was from. And then when I went to the video tape, well, it became even more obvious.

What's Buzz-worthy: These cards aren't all that pricey -- I got this one for this future Hall of Famer for just over $2 -- but the swatch got my attention as it seemed like it could be easily spotted as it was a piece from the mat for the event where it's noted. While I initially thought "MasterCard" based on the colors, it turns out the logo is for xenergy energy drinks from a company called XYIENCE. The convergence of the three colors in such a tight space (a swatch about two inches wide) makes it pretty obvious that the piece is from the top of the "n" in the logo (rotated 90 degrees to the right on the card) with the curve to the white atop the canvas. (Or, it could be the bottom of the "n" on the right ... maybe. I'm going with the top.) You can see the logo extensively as fighting from the first round alone from this St-Pierre win took place right on top of the logo -- check out the video and especially the secondary image below. The best part of this card? It came from a low-end product that's a favorite of mine as it delivers five hits per box and a boatload of cards for a very modest price. Mat cards are pretty common stuff but not many of them can match up to specific spots so easily. The only drawback on this card? There is a second identical xenergy logo on the opposite side of the Octagon for that event that you don't see much of in the video. I'm sure my swatch is the one that has toe-use on it, though -- watch the clip. (That's me being optimistic.)
