The life of this fully authenticated game-used MLB ball isn't all that impressive -- I liked it for a team clearance $10 pick-up, though given player names attached -- but the reason you see it here for this month's Collecting Game-used series item is that it's an example of how something launched online last fall might spark more interest in game-used memorabilia.

Thanks to the MLB Film Room, you can find countless memorable (and many forgettable) video clips of plays from past games all in database form. You can search by names, players, teams, plays, etc., and to a degree that should add some interest to game-used pieces like this ball ... and maybe some value beyond the authentication statements that are also in a database with every ball.

You can keep reading to see the details ... and the ball in action.

THE BASICS ...
Game-used ball (MLB Authenticated):
Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies, Sept. 11, 2019
Watch it in action: See above (or here if video doesn't load for some reason)

The matchup: Braves 3B Josh Donaldson vs. Phillies SP Zach Eflin (fourth inning)
The result: Weak chopper to SS Jean Segura who misfires throw to 1B Rhys Hoskins with a diving Donaldson safe on error.

What's Buzz-worthy: The MLB Film Room's clip brings this ball to life once again with the Segura error showing why, as coach always said, you always it out to first. This was certainly not one of the biggest plays for Donaldson in his dominating (and only) season with the Braves, but the team did end up winning it 3-1 as Tyler Flowers hit a three-run shot just three batters later. (Do rally-starter balls carry a premium? This is that.) The error was the 18th of the season for the former All-Star and was the 122nd of his career. The ball isn't all that dirty, but it is scuffed so it potentially was used some before this play and the other pitch that's noted -- I'm not digging through videos for more ... it's Friday. But for $10 (see last month's story at the link below -- click and scroll down) I like how this is a simple piece that has a few notable names attached and there's some drama on the dive to the bag. The MLB Film Room makes this simple item cooler -- at some point, I'll probably dig out all of the balls in my collection and see if I can find clips of them. Maybe there are some more surprises to be seen.
