Collecting Game-used: MLB Film Room is back in action

If you're a regular reader of The Buzz, then you know that Collecting Game-used  is a monthly department offering up a quick look (well, at least most of the time) at a piece of game-used memorabilia in action.

A deep part of my stash for this series are MLB Authenticated baseballs -- a simple kind of item that you can find with more details than ever and plenty of players' names often attached -- and that's what we're getting back to this time. Why do I say that? Well, with the MLB lockout, the MLB Film Room video database that lets you see pretty much anything from recent seasons went dark just like all those rosters on the MLB site and the MLB Network -- at least for current players. All those trivial clips of memorabilia-making moments that aren't home runs or strikeouts are back ... and this time I'll offer up something that we won't be seeing much of again ... some pitcher vs. pitcher action.

THE BASICS ...

The matchup: Phillies RP Adam Morgan vs. Brewers SP Zach Davies
The result: Ground ball to SS Jean Segura to 1B Rhys Hoskins for an out

What's Buzz-worthy: It's a simple play you can see in its entirety here -- a meaty 14-second clip by Film Room standards. Why did I grab this? Well, it was part of an off-season Phillies firesale -- it was just $10 and that also included an Ultra Pro ball cube -- and, beyond the bargain price, Morgan fits the school ties part of my stash. With the DH this year we won't see any filler ABs like this, but the pitcher making some contact is better than some other moments that can be found MLB stickered and sold. After this ball went from six to three it went around the horn so you can add Maikel Franco and Cesar Hernandez to the players attached. This ball also may have been wet at some point as the texture sure looks like somebody with a batting glove handled this one at some point. Does all of that add value here? Nah, just extra visuals. At $10 it still seems like a decent grab, though, and what can one find in the card world for that price these days? Davies got the win in this one -- this was used in his 38th career victory -- and it was also a game where Mike Moustakas homered and Christian Yelich added two more. This 80.1 mph curveball (full info below) didn't last long in The Show ... but at least it got there.
