Collecting Game-used: Was it 'training' used? I'll never know ...

This month's item in this Collecting Game-used series is a perhaps a bit loose in its definition of "use" but here we go ...

In January, I wrote about an item I picked up in last year's Ballers prop auction -- that one a copy of a book held by The Rock in one scene that was the subject of some viral chatter with Elizabeth Warren not all that long ago. Their tweets sparked more than a few stories online as the two went back and forth about her fandom for the show ... then, months later, that book popped up on the auction block with its feathered corners and even an odd extra item inside.

This time? A far more anonymous item that was in the auction and billed as "training-used" by a key character in one episode.

What's Buzz-worthy: These size-12 orange and white Nike Zoom Merciless D cleats actually do show a decent amount of wear on the cleat tips, scuffing on parts of the outsoles and sides, wear and turf still inside them as well as some minor staining and even some splitting of the seams -- clearly some use during filming. They were billed in the Ballers auction as being "training-used" by Kisan Teague as he joined the Miami Dolphins in Season 3. I'll confess to having not watched every episode of the hit series but when I checked out the specific episode? Well, I saw nothing ... but I did see a model of cleats identical to these in a front office display case for a moment in one scene. Could these be those cleats? I'll never know -- but I would think that those in the display case for dressing on a set might have survived a little longer than those of uniformed actors out on location. (Maybe.) Or, perhaps they're in a different episode before ... no spoilers. Now, this mystery isn't a big deal -- I won these on just a $2 bid early on to assure that I landed something from the auction to talk about here. I missed on a number of nicer obviously screen-used pieces that were sold for a ton more -- and could easily be photo-matched -- but later landed the book with a good story I mentioned before. Ironically, after fees and shipping these definitely weren't just $2 but I can now say I have my first (and likely last) used cleats in my memorabilia stash.
