Collectors help Ryan Freel's family remember his MLB career

Ryan Freel's eight-year MLB career resulted in a modest amount of cardboard -- but his family would treasure any of his cards that they can find.

And collectors on the Blowout Cards Forum are helping them out.

The former utility player for the Blue Jays, Reds, Orioles, Cubs and Royals died in 2012 and it was discovered that he had chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE, which is a degenerative brain condition. His family is looking for cards for his three daughters, Ava, Alex and Aliana.

Freel hit .268 in his MLB career with 532 hits and 122 RBI in 594 games. He's got seven certified autograph cards, eight memorabilia cards and 18 Rookie Cards among his 300-plus total cards. His RCs can be found in 2001 products from Donruss, Fleer and Upper Deck, while his autos are in 2001 Leaf Rookies & Stars, 2002 Select, the 2004 USA Baseball 25th Anniversary set and in 2006 Upper Deck.
