Quick, can you name the hottest card coming out of packs of 2018 Topps Allen & Ginter?

It's not Ronald Acuña Jr., Shohei Ohtani or some newly discovered previously missing Wood mini ... it's card No. 83, Cryptocurrency.

Why? Who knows, who cares ... what people like is what people like. (Something like that.) The 1/1 Topps Vault blank back of the card you see above? It garnered 50 bids and went for ... wait for it ... $2,475. (Seriously.)

It's not alone, either, as parallel versions of this card are selling for far more than they should, but it's the power of a Rookie Card (yeah, that's it) driving this one.

A Red parallel (/5) from Allen & Ginter X? It went for $1,000 as a Buy-It-Now buy. A Brooklyn back mini limited to only 25 copies? It sold for $499.99 -- also a Buy-It Now. A Gold parallel? Its little not-even-serial-numbered self went for $360. A no-number mini (those are limited to 50) went for $355. A printing plate? Just $123.50. A lot of seven base, Ginter X and Hot Box parallels went for $125. Those aren't bad considering the price of a Ginter box.

In all there have been more than 20 completed auctions to go for more than $100 -- and plenty more below that but still impressive at $50 or more. Even the Topps wall art for this one is sold out -- 99 copies at $24.99 apiece and a $99 1/1 version. The only other players to sell out that I've seen? Ohtani earlier this year. All of this for a card noting an oddity of our times (at least if you watch the news) with a baseball card that parallels its own bubble-like reality.

How long will it last? (Check out those active auctions for even crazier numbers now.)

Or has it burst already?
