Doctor Who Signature Series ink is from series stars & beyond

What happens when you take an internationally popular multi-generational TV series, collect many of its iconic stars, years worth of guest stars and put nothing but their autographs all in one place?

Some cardboard gold -- and a project that just might be on the to-do list for many collectors both here and across the pond.

That's what appears to be in play for 2018 Topps Doctor Who Signature Series, a one-auto-per-pack product that arrived earlier this year from Topps with nothing but ink inside its packs.

There are nearly 100 different signed cards to chase in this one -- and nothing else -- with parallel cards being the only added challenge to collecting this release that chronicles the characters and actors for Doctor Who beyond just its title characters.

There are a number of guest stars who you might know if you're not a regular viewer of the BBC series and we'll use Carpool Karaoke icon and The Late Late Show host James Corden as an example of what's in this one. He appears on a pair of standard cards showing him as Craig Owens in his Doctor Who appearances and each card has a Red (/10), Blue (/25) and Green (/50) version. The standard cards are not numbered.

David Tennant, John Hurt, Peter Davidson, Colin Bakker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann -- the Doctors in the house here -- are all on the checklist and will have strong interest with their cards showing them in the title roles but they are not alone. McCoy appears on a pair of cards though interestingly none of them appear on dual- or triple-auto cards  that also can be found here. Joining them in terms of big demand among completed eBay sales include Jenna Coleman, Billie Piper, Noel Clarke, Alex Kingston, Eve Myles and Georgia Moffett among others, though some of those impressive prices may be bolstered by demand for parallel cards. Active auctions aren't shabby, though.

Also on the deep checklist (see gallery below)? Shawn of The Dead and Hot Fuzz star Nick Frost is among the guest stars on the checklist and his appearance as Santa Claus in a past episode gets a card and those same three parallels.

Fans of the series have plenty to chase with this one -- and again, it's all ink and that's it with one auto per pack -- and there's enough to chase beyond the show's regulars and biggest names.
