Duke's R.J. Barrett signs exclusive card deal with Panini

A Duke star has signed with Panini America in advance of the NBA Draft.

All-American R.J. Barrett, who is projected to be among the top picks in next week's draft, has signed an exclusive card agreement revealed today. His first in-pack cards will arrive in 2019 Contenders Draft Picks and then in 2019-20 NBA Hoops in October. He will make his debut via Panini Instant after he is drafted.

“With an athlete like R.J. Barrett, we were determined to target an initial partnership with a group who recognizes how special he is,” said Robert Kinnard, Executive Director of Global Marketing for BDA Sports, in a prepared statement. “Panini is a giant in the trading card and memorabilia industry and it is satisfying to see their shared vision as evidenced by their commitment to the influence R.J.’s brand will have on the marketplace.”

Barrett was a First Team All-American and winner of the Jerry West Award after averaging 22.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.

“I’ve grown up around the professional game and learned early the impact an athlete can have on and off the court,” he said. “I want to be a player fans can connect with and follow throughout my career and I know working with Panini helps me accomplish that goal.”

Panini CEO Mark Warsop said he believes in Barrett's potential.

“The 2019 NBA Draft is shaping up to be one of the biggest in the history of the league and R.J.’s presence is one of the major reasons why,” Warsop said. “His offensive prowess and style of play make him an instant attraction for fans and collectors. We’re excited to be able to create unique trading cards for them to collect.”

The NBA Draft is set for June 20 at the Barclays Center in New York City.
