A SUPER START ...
The Item: Ozzie Albies 2018 Bowman Chrome Superfractor Autograph 1/1 -- Rookie Card parallel PSA 10
The Price: $25,000 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: I don't expect this price to get hit -- these days anything is possible, though -- but this guy is one of the core stars for the Atlanta Braves this year whether people realize it or not. The old guy (Freddie Freeman), the hurt guy (Ronald Acuña Jr.), or the pitchers might get a lot of cardboard attention if (when?) they win it all, but the little guy has put up big numbers and he's still overlooked. His basic stuff is very cheap from 2015 (first prospect cards) and 2018 (Rookie Cards) but I think he has the room to move among all of them. A Braves Series win could be a very good thing for cardboard of homegrown players (or close to it, throwing in Dansby Swanson) -- meanwhile, Houston has them, too, but there are other issues there for cards. My pick? Braves in six ... maybe even in five.

NEW SEASON, NEW ROOKIES
The Item: Chris Duarte 2021-22 Panini Chronicles Draft Picks Panini Threads Rookie Threads
The Price: $20 Buy-It-Now
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This isn't some dark horse pick from me -- I'm not even in preseason form for basketball collecting (not a single pack yet opened) -- but it's one example of the stuff already out there from Panini America within the Chronicles release. No 2021-22 NBA products have been previewed yet -- the season timing getting back to normal is likely here ahead of Panini getting caught up on everything for a new season -- but this release is a fun one with a ton of variety and talent every year and is a good candidate to start any season if you ask me. Duarte has averaged 20.3 points a game and leads all rookies so far this year and seems modestly priced.

BIG DAY ... LEADING THE WAY?
The Item: Ja'Marr Chase 2021 Panini Black Copper Rookie Patch Auto (/50)
The Price: $500 Buy-It-Now
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: I'm not totally sure if this is a good price for a Chase auto right now -- Buzz is running behind on this Monday -- but I know that Chase had a monster game on Sunday and is arguably the top candidate for the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year honors after that ... and it makes me think this price might be considered low by season's end. A 200-yard game and being part of a duo already known for their college prowess doesn't hurt at all ... and Joe Burrow's numbers have looked really good this year, too. Of course, Chase is likely pricey regardless of performance as the fifth-overall pick but there still seems to be room for card growth here ... he's not a QB.

GET THIS PARDEE STARTED
The Item: Alex Pardee 2021 Topps Project70 embellished and signed card (/10 via artist)
The Price: $4,500 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This artist holds the honors for the top three best-selling Project70 cards this year and his latest drops on Tuesday -- a demonic GOAT take on Babe Ruth that will be card No. 666 in the release. What's this? Well, it's an autographed and embellished creation where he added his signature on one of his cards and then an extra creature to the image of Trout, making this one a little different and a little pricier for one's collection. Artists have made companion cards and more for the series and these can be quite popular for those who are art-minded or want it all. I think I've bought more Pardee cards than any other artist (five or so) and been tempted just as often if not more. This one's out of my territory, but new ones can be had for $20 over on the Topps site when they pop up. I think he has just eight more to do this year and then it's all done.
