eBay Buzz: Bowman 1st Edition drops, legendary Heritage ink, dominating in spring training and ... now what on LaMelo Ball?

CHECK HIS STATS ...
The Item: Akil Baddoo 2018 Bowman Chrome Blue Prospect Autograph (/150)
The Price: $149.95 Buy-It-Now 
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: I didn't do a price check here to see how they have been selling or whether others out there right now are higher or lower ... but I did look at Baddoo's stat line this spring for the Detroit Tigers -- he's hitting .357 (10-for-28) with four homers and nine RBI in 15 games along with 11 runs and eight walks. Throw in two stolen bases and only nine strikeouts and that's one of the more-interesting spring showings right now ... from a guy who's likely nowhere near the radar of many or perhaps even sitting in some of your old ripped boxes. This 22-year-old former second-round pick has hit only .249 in four past MiLB seasons with one of his better years (2018) being one that had 11 homers ... but 124 strikeouts in 113 games. (Yikes.) It seems like there's some big improvement here, though he's not played above advanced-A ball. He could be a from-out-of-nowhere kind of player if he sticks with the Tigers and that appears to be a possibility. I wouldn't over-pay for his cards but he's worth watching ... remember Randy Arozarena last year? Basically half of Baddoo's cards are certified autos since his cardboard arrival in 2017 and he's found with ink in this one as well as 2018 Elite Extra Edition and Panini Contenders and then 2019 Bowman Sterling. That's it.

The Item: Mick Abel 2021 Bowman 1st Edition Gold parallel (/50)
The Price: $475 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: The first Bowman release of the year's 1st Edition arrived as a bit of a mystery last week and then today for 582 Montgomery Club members (and maybe the public ... I dunno ... I missed it all) with a limit of 48 premium-priced packs per buyer. (I'm not that dedicated of a prospector ... or perhaps even a prospector at all at this point.) But this single is out on eBay now from the early waves of rippers and it's a solid-looking card of a top prospect whose dad revealed to the world that these were coming over on the Blowout Forums not that long ago.

HERITAGE IS HERE (A LITTLE EARLY, TOO)
The Item: Rod Carew 2021 Topps Heritage Red-ink Real One Autographs (/72)
The Price: $99.99 opening bid (five days remaining)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: We got the Heritage checklist today (see it here) and it will include one of the last times we will get new on-card autographs for Hank Aaron -- and seeing that it then dawned on me we'll likely never see any 1974 or 1975 commemorative ink in Heritage unless Topps was really planning ahead for this brand or has stickers it might use. While that's a big bummer to think about, the fact that we get a new shot at Aaron here is a highlight ... and he's not alone on the legendary front. One other Hall of Famer to look for, for example, is Rod Carew and cards like this will surface and vanish fast with such a low volume made and seeding across the board in a high-volume, multi-format product. No Aaron autos have surfaced yet -- after all, it's not officially out for a couple more days -- but this card is a classic teaser of what's to come.

WHAT NOW?
The Item: LaMelo Ball 2020-21 Donruss Green & Yellow Laser Rookie Card parallel 
The Price: $649.99 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This notable NBA rookie's season is likely over with a fractured bone in his right wrist and that puts plenty of the NBA fans and flippers in a decision-making spot. Do they sell, do they hold or do they continue to stockpile as some people bail and sell? (And if you force returns for cards you no longer can easily flip, well, I want you to take the month off and come back here to read up on stuff only after you can do the right thing.) If he's legit and will be a mainstay, then this is just a speed bump ... and there's still plenty of cardboard to come. For me? Well, my two Hoops blasters -- I think that's it for finding NBA stuff for me this year -- both yielded his RCs so I'm feeling this, too. (They're off in a box somewhere so I guess I'm holding.)
