CONTENDERS OPTIC ARRIVES
The Item: Josh Allen 2018 Panini Contenders Optic Gold Vinyl autograph (1/1)
The Price: $2,147 after 29 bids (six days remaining)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This brand takes one of the most historically popular brands for football collectors, Contenders, and gives it an Optichrome rainbow with a lot of ink to chase. You get two autos per box but the key cards of the key rookies -- not easy pulls in this format -- are the driving force and command big cash when you find them. With a box price and format that puts the focus on the hits and the chase more than an overall collecting experience with many packs, this one is a brand that adds to the big-hit oomph when you find one. This card shows you that as it's already in big interest. It should be interesting to see how this auction goes. I'm not that big of a fan of how the text is wiped out in this design, but it's clear that the bidders don't care -- it's a big card.

NEW HALL OF FAMER
The Item: Torrie Wilson 2005 Topps Heritage WWE autograph 
The Price: $57 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: She'll be formally announced as being in this year's WWE Hall of Fame class tonight on Raw, a reflection of a nearly 10-year career in wrestling that began with WCW in 1999. She was a fitness model and competitor before wrestling -- something she found after developing eating disorders as a teen when she wanted to be a traditional model. She appears on fewer than 50 certified autographs for wrestling releases from Fleer, Topps and Leaf Trading Cards, but nearly 400 in Bench Warmers releases where she's been a regular signer. This auto is her first WWE ink (her earliest autos were from Fleer in three 2002 sets) and it can be quite condition-sensitive between the dark borders on traditional stock and the auto signed on a glossy surface. These cards have been faked at times so scrutinize them closely. (I saw at least one on eBay I thought was iffy.)

SPRING TRAINING SPARK?
The Item: Byron Buxton 2013 Bowman Inception Blue Prospect Autographs (/75)
The Price: $179 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: Spring training surprises are a big part of the baseball card game this time of year and there are a few guys who are doing pretty well right now and could find a spot on a roster and in more collections because of it. Buxton is among those names but is a well-established name collecting-wise so he's not much of a risk. In 11 at-bats in five games he's got three homers and 11 RBI while hitting .545. Buxton is pushing nearly 1,000 different certified autograph cards so there's plenty to choose from. I like this brand because it's often overlooked and has some clean and crisp cards out there between all of the parallels. Others with big spring starts right now include Michael Chavis, Lewis Brinson, Chance Sisco and Matt Davidson. There are 13 players with at least three homers so far this spring.

DOLLAR TREE POWER
The Item: Luka Doncic 2018-19 NBA Hoops Yellow RC parallel 
The Price: $110 Buy-It-Now
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This color of parallel cards is only found in super-cheap no-frills packs at Dollar Tree stores -- one per pack, though -- and they could be a long-term sleeper as they have to be rarer than other parallels for this and other brands like it. (Donruss NBA also has Yellows.) The price on this auction is a tad high -- others have sold around $85 or less -- but it's an example where distribution can limit availability and cards in unusual places where collectors aren't looking as much can create demand. Big stars and key RCs are the ones to chase -- and grade/hold if you ask me.

... LIVIN' IN BEVERLY HILLS
The Item: Autographed Beverly Hills 90210 cast photo (PSA/DNA LOA)
The Price: $1,000 Buy-It-Now
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: The unexpected death of Luke Perry today after a stroke at age 52 might have a few fans looking for something for their collections -- but he never signed a certified auto for any card company. A few members of this cast have signed in sets through the years but this is the kind of place where you can get most of them all in one spot. Ian Ziering, Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Brian Austin Green, Gabrielle Carteris, Jason Priestley, Shannen Doherty, show creator Aaron Spelling and Perry all signed this one and it's been authenticated by PSA with a letter service despite its condition issues. Now will be the time a lot of fakes and reprint photos pop up online but for a simpler add to the collection there's a 1991 Topps card set for the show. That one has 88 cards and 11 stickers and seems like it's about it for the show on cards other than a 120-card set from Panini released in Germany.
