eBay Buzz: Hollywood Brown & Kyler Murray together, Pete Alonso, Nico Hoerner, David Ortiz and ... Zion's lucky potato?

TWO BIG ROOKIES, ONE CARD
The Item: Marquise "Hollywood" Brown & Kyler Murray 2019 Panini Prizm Draft Picks College Ties Gold auto (/10)
The Price: $499.99 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: These rookies were both kind of a big deal in Week 1 NFL action with Brown the dominating guy in a blowout and Murray the guy who disappointed until a two-touchdown fourth-quarter rally that ended with a double-overtime tie. Brown had just four catches but two touchdowns and 147 yards in a big Ravens win that immediately got him close to the top of a number of collector radars despite the fact that they were playing the Dolphins. Murray was already pricey as the No. 1 pick and Brown is now pricey if he wasn't already, so this card of them together -- a rare one -- might be a good combo for somebody who doesn't mind college threads or sticker autos as long as they are clean. There will be plenty to come for both of these guys on the field and on cardboard and this is a good option right now as to something on the rare side. I'm not sure it will go for this price but the movement on some Brown auto cards since Sunday says anything is possible.

A BIT OF EBAY COMMENTARY ON ZION PRICES?
The Item: "2019 Zion Williamson Game Used Lucky Potato"
The Price: $21,988.88 after 64 bids (one day remaining)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: There is a ton of bad stuff -- fake cardboard -- on eBay that people are buying all day long with Zion Williamson's face, name and initials attached to, but ... this? Well, let's hope it's all one big joke about the buying fury for the cards of the new NBA phenom. The listing is just as mysterious and brief -- "This potato flopped out during a live Duke basketball game. No one wanted to say it was theirs but the initials would soon reveal the lucky potato’s owner. Z.W." (Hey, at least it's not an allegedly game-used Cheeto that looks like Mike Krzyzewski ... )

THE PERFECT REFRACTOR COLOR
The Item: Pete Alonso 2019 Topps Chrome Orange Wave Refractor auto (/25)
The Price: $899 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: This guy could end up holding the MLB rookie home run record set just a couple years ago by Aaron Judge in those other New York threads and that march to more potential history for this guy this year should get more people looking at his cards. He's had a huge year and I'm not sure it's been as appreciated on cardboard like it was for the guy un pinstripes. He's just a few shots away from 52. I'd bet he gets there and this card is a gem to see with my only hesitation being how that sig finishes. (It may hurt a little if you get it graded but this is still a sweet card because of its color.

STILL A STRONG CARD ...
The Item: David Ortiz 2013 Topps Series 2 short-printed "Boston Strong" moment variation
The Price: $249.95 Buy-It-Now
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: David Ortiz's first pitch last night in Boston -- his first time back since he was shot while in the Dominican Republic -- got me thinking about memorable cardboard for "Big Papi." There are a few out there, but this simple card with a solid photo from a memorable moment came to mind first. It's a rarer variation in 2013 Topps Series 2 and this one has a steep price but it's the only raw copy on eBay. The only other one is a PSA 10 that will cost you nearly $100 more. It's a classic that I'd want in my stash but I'm priced out on these. Want something even rarer? There's apparently a Topps Chrome autograph variation of this card limited to only five copies.

YOUR NEWEST CHICAGO CUB
The Item: Nico Hoerner 2018 Bowman Chrome Draft Green Prospect Refractor Auto (/99)
The Price: $319 Buy-It-Now (or best offer)
Why it’s Buzz-worthy: While you can find the Superfractor of this card for a lot more money and with a description that includes "the holy grail Nico card MLB debut and savior of the Cubs," I opted for a more modestly priced card. He made his MLB debut last night, going 3-for-5 with a triple and four RBI. The former  Stanford standout was the 24th pick in last year's MLB Draft so he doesn't have as much cardboard out there as some other new arrivals, but you can already look for him on today's Topps Now cards (with ink) and you can bank on him getting his Rookie Cards in 2020.
